Sack the lot.

McCabe shouldn`t have sacked Blackwell last week ...... he should waited until after that game and sacked him today

theres alot of games left yet and i saw moments of football today that looked better then it did when blackwell was in charge

You are far better than Speed.....we should have appointed you!

:D

Well you would of expected the team to show up and prove themselves to him.

All they did was try to carry on the crap we had before.

Gordon Strachan summed it up for me.
When asked if GS would be a good manager he stated that he hoped so and that he had worked hard enough. When asked for some advice he stated that the secret was to get some good players in.

We are fucked then.

thought we passed the ball ok today we have nothing up top at all Cresswell doesn't look half the player he was last season, Evans wants it on a plate and Ward does not look happy on the right wing. Changes needed and new blood before its to late and were in a relegation dog fight.

shocking performance

was that supposed to show Speed that they wanted to play for him? what a shocking display.Britton looks good on the ball and can at least control it and pass..Ward at least looked like he cared but the overall team performance was woeful. 2 shots on target and only really threatening...
only 3 games in but it looks very worrying...no creativity, no fire power...no fight..

Poor, poor, poor, poor. I'd hoped to see a different formation today, maybe one or two different tactics but all we got was just Blackwell light. First game in charge or not, he needs to sort things out immediately, put his own stamp on the way we play and stop trying to copy Blackwell's tactics. Why was our only striker playing out wide? What the fuck was it with replacing our only striker with one that was even less effective? I hope to see something a lot different on Saturday but I've a feeling could be saying that every week for a long time to come.

Also the sooner Jordan is fit the better because Andy Taylor is one of the worst players I've ever seen at the club.

Personally, I liked the way that we tried to keep the spheroid on the green oblong thing. Something which we haven't done for over a decade in the main.

But then that means nothing, as we didn't beat one of the promotion favourites 965343246765-0 on their own pad, on our manager's bow, so we'll go down with one point.

Obviously.

Some bloody people.

Eh??? Did you watch the game? We were abysmal as were injury hit Boro. Neither team strung 2 passes together. If you sell your best players (as McCabe seems happy to do) and replace them with average / poor ones this is what you get. We've got to give Speed time of course but his negative approach and formation was very disappointing - particularly against such a poor Boro side.

I hope that no-one will ever again claim that The Maestro has any place in a professional football team. Yet again he was absolutely, utterly and completely useless.

I agree with Jon Bon about Taylor but Monty is right down there with him.

Speed has a huge task ahead of him. He needs to make fundamental changes and he needs to remove the non- footballers sooner rather than later.

Bartley and Ertl at least came out with some credit, as do the Blades who travelled.

yer can't race porshe's in an allegro and win ................. we'll perhaps if the Porshe breaks down

I'll echo that. Helps reduce the time the opposion have the ball and it's not always coming straight back at you. I thought the game plan was to get a point and we would have apart from Morgs slip up. He's big fella and won't worry about it and will get over it.
It's a start but we need to inject a lot more pace and I'd like to see 442.

Too many players are played out of position though, who put the squad together?

Yep spot on there.

Im disappointed with the performance but lets give it time, he's only really had 3 training sessions with them. Let him have a full week. Hoping things will change. 3 games in, yes, we are bottom but 43 games to go.

I'm surprised at some posters praising the way we played. Under Blackwell we were clearly too direct, but the danger when trying to change that is that we may start passing for the sake of it. Britton's role is a major major problem. When he got on the ball he always passed it backwards and sideways, which meant that Boro got their players behind the ball again, and denied us space. This is football at it's most ineffective, and if Britton can't adapt to the attacking midfield role, we have to find someone who can play there - if we're going to stick with the current formation.

Britton has played as a holding midfielder for years and he seems unable to receive the ball, and make it continue to go forward.

My post from the Match Thread forum (more likely to get read on here I think)

Positives

We were an individual error away from getting a point.

Negatives (and I accept it's very early days for Speed)

Hardly any shooting chances created.

We still have a big problem with our passing (it's not how often we pass it, I never thought it was, it's the way we pass it. It's too slow, too often in front of the opposition. We just don't play quickly enough in possession, it seems to me that we pass it for the sake of passing it rather than looking to drag people out of position and create opportunities.

Set pieces - we waste so many, mainly through letting Jamie Ward take 80% of them (why?) but we still seem happy to try ill-conceived 'routines' now and then.

Playing a centre back at right back means a lot of attacks break down on that side of the pitch, hopefully Calve can improve that situation.

Like I say, it's really early days for Speed so let's see what happens. I just hope that he does have some different ideas and won't prove to be a Blackwell clone. Not sure how much room for movement he'll have in the transfer market but I'd love to see him add some pace and some quickness of thought if possible.

The Preston game is, already, a massive one. We've got to get that first win on the board and get up and running.

I did, and yes, both sides gave away possession too easily too often. I never said we were much good, but I do think it was better than we've endured for quite some time. We tried to play a different style, away from home against a side who are expected to be up there. Granted, we could have changed formation as the game went on, but give the bloke a chance. There are visible signs that changes are being made, and despite the fact that we weren't particularly good, there were positive things to take out of the match.

We did actually pass it around quite a bit in the first half, but with almost no penetration. As far as the slagging of off Monty, he wasn't the worst player on the pitch by a long way. He even came close to scoring in the second half, which is better than the rest of them with the exception of Cresswell's first half effort. At the end of the first half I made the observation that we were't terrible, we just weren't very good, and that that would probably be our better half. It was. It's not all doom and gloom. Yet.

Speed was asked on Radio Sheffield if he'd be making wholesale changes, and he said that it was too soon to be doing that. So give him a chance - we-ve only played three league games.

Speed was honest all week that he didn't want to rush too many changes. So I never really expected much different, however I thought we held the ball alot better than we have in the past, passed it better (still too many mistakes) but we still haven't addressed how our players move to recieve the ball.
We did play for a point today, but the frustrating thing for me is not one of our players stepped up, and this is where I can't blame any manager, we were one nil down and not one of those players made any attempt to grab our game by the scruff of the neck and push us on, we lack clear leadership on the field (that sounds bizarre saying it with Morg's on the field.) We also lack pace, and decent wide men.

Fair assesment not so easy to change so soon.

Well, the 'knocker truce' and the feel good factor lasted well didn't it?

Feck me, I wouldn't want to work for any of you miserable twats. First game (awful game) and you're already predicting relegation. What did you all expect? Pretty triangles???? Take a longer perspective and have patience, or we will become a self fulfilling prophesy...

(Duncs prediction: First "Speed out" thread by middle of October... *shakes head*)

What do you think of our central midfield options? Do you think Britton can adapt to the attacking midfield role?

I like the wholesale changes question, with a threadbare squad who would he change them with the tea lady and the grounds staff?
