Just back from watching this - lost 1-0. Speed was there throughout ready for the first team training session he watched most of the first half and bits of the second. To be honest we never really looked like scoring but the number 9 (Slew?) looked a cut above the others maybe time for him to go on loan in league 2 and get some experience

The talk is that there aren't any youngsters genuinely ready behind Lowton, but just imagine the difference it must make to the Academy lads to see Chappell et al in the first team squad.

Now really is the time for these lads to make an impression.

Now that Blackwell has gone maybe it will provide the kids with the impetus to kick on. It must have been demoralising to think that you had no way of ever getting anywhere near the first team unless it was through absolute desperation. There wasn't a lot of incentive for them before.

The goal looked to be an OG deflected from a corner. Other than that not many clear chances for either side although our keeper made a couple of good saves

Dont think he's in the academy team, but ishmael lammy looks to be a handy looking player, played well for the reserves against forest the other day

Nicky Law and Evan Horwood are playing League 2. I cant think of anyone else playing in the leagues.

I was thinking of academy kids who got to the fringes of the first team but didn't get their chance. Billy had plenty of chances...

Yes, alright. I give you that one. I suppose you could argue the same for Jonathan Forte as well.

Academy Big Noises -

Kevan Hurst - promising, made one first team appearance and he's now at Carlisle.

Jamie Annerson - big things expected, now reserve keeper at Rotherham. Total first team appearances - 1.

Keith Quinn - loaned to West Coast Surfing Barbie Monitors, bizarrely enough during their closed season, and now playing for League of Ireland club Sporting Fingal. Total league appearances - one less than J. Annerson.

Jacob Mellis - 12 loan appearances for Southampton since going to Chelsea for the cash.

And two blokes called Kyle, currently tossing it off in London. Naughton - total appearances since leaving us - 18, 15 of which were for Middlesboro, and Walker - 2 appearances for Spurs.

Centre half Chris Robertson is at Torquay, Jake Speight is now at Bradford.

Ryan Cresswell at Rotherham and pre-academy, Ben Purkiss is at Oxford

I know Cresswell and he seems to be doing well at Rotherham. He was installed as their captain after his move and has managed to score two already this season.

Regarding old Academy players. What ever happened to Ian Ross? Didn't he go to Rotherham as well? Also, I heard Evan Horwood's name mentioned yesterday, playing for Hartlepool.
