Can't understand what your getting your panties in a bunch for
Souness is right ,as well as some of our players have played this season its the tactics and coaching that's got us where we are .our players are heroes to us but in the transfer market there limitations would be reflected in their worth and its just a fact to state that they're players are worth ( or have cost ) more than ours

He praises us and the way we play all the time so I'm not sure why you pick up on this one slightly negative comment ( which was meant as praise ) and run with it in this manner ,says a lot about us as a fanbase I suppose

To say that not one of our defenders would replace theirs, after a calamitous 3-0 drubbing, and having the worst defensive record in the top half, deserves calling out.

I think people who say the. have limitations are genuinely not looking at what they have achieved and how well they have played. What limits do Egan, fleck and JOC etc have realistically, Maybe it’s only age for some of them like bash and Norwood.

The way I look at it is how much we would have to pay to replace them at a higher level? A better basham, would surely set you you back berge levels of fees. Same across the back line and midfield.

but agree, no reason to get upset at perceived negative comments.

But they wouldn't ,our defence is a unit and there are doubts about all three of them in a back.four st the top level

I disagree. They are a fantastic unit, but individually would improve most of the teams around us.

Totally agree with this, I was watching the Burnley game and one of the commentators said we’re a similar size club to Burnley.... yeah Burnley a town of 73,000 people with a ground that as a capacity of 21,500. Brilliant comparison that..well done. Its annoying FFS. You just forgot to mention the half a million plus people that live in Sheffield and the 32,702 capacity stadium, but other than that spot on.
That of course was Souness.

Egan for me is the best defensive CB at the club, but he's showed multiple times this season that he can get caught out when high up the pitch and getting too tight.

At Chelsea for example, he would be in a back 4 and be required to defend 1v1 a lot.

You think he would be as good at that as he is in this unit with Basham/JOC?

There comes a point where technique at the top level is pretty much even. They can all control it sublimely, pass with both feet etc in the high 90 percentages. All of them are able to run for 90 mins, managed correctly they can all give their all and execute a plan.

However, what sets the absolute best, the cream at the top are the little extras in ability, often the stuff that can’t be taught.
Vision to see every pass option, assess the best option and execute it accurately in the blink of an eye. Like having a constant overview of the whole pitch!
sheer athletic pace, but added to the ability to run past players with the ball.
Add the calmness and skill to put the ball in the net without thinking, being in the right place at the right time seemingly using a sixth sense to know where the ball was going to break
Some have one or two of those kinds of extras, the very best have many of the extras.
Do we have any with more than two?

I’m not so sure. Take some of these lads away from United and Wilder and they struggle to impose their game and style. Lunny for example needs to be careful. Duffy...superb for us, hopeless since.

Every player suits a different formation more than another. Depends who is partner is in a 4. If it’s Van Dyke then yeah I reckon he’ll be fine. If anything, in a 4 he has closer cover and an additional body. To say he’s a top 6 defender, in our team and only when Bash/JOC are either side of him, but wouldn’t replicate that elsewhere objectively makes no sense.

We’re a less expensive Leicester if anything...

Now you’ve done it.
Which Leicester are you talking about?
The one under Pearson/Ranieri right?

The greatest comparisons are Leicester under Pearson/Ranieri, Burnley and Wolves.
It's nothing close style wise to Leicester under Rodgers.

I knew it. He’s here, the great authority on.....pretty much everything really. Asks a question, doesn’t wait for an answer because he knows better.

I've got a season ticket there and the style is completely different.

Believe me, Leicester's style is completely different to Blades, and i've had many criticisms of it this season.
I wish you’d spend a bit more time somewhere else talking about your team and a bit less on here talking about ours.

It all depends on how much money you have to start with............the difference between a £5m player and a £50m player is marginal and needs a great manager to squeeze it out. Honestly way too money is spent by the PL by clubs with way too much money.

I liken it to makeup - you can either spend £5 on a mascara or £50 - and nobody will be able to tell the difference anyway 😉😆

Fleck is the best midfielder at a top 7 side.....
McBurnie/McGoldrick the best strikers at a top 7 side.....

You think they get into the team or even starting 18 at Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, Leicester, Man United, or even Wolves?

I don't think putting Egan into Chelsea's back 4 would result in an obvious improvement.
But I do believe replacing Egan at United with Christensen would see an obvious decline.

False equivalence. Chelsea were beaten 3-0, put in as shambolic defensive performance as you could ever wish to see, and have conceded 16 more goals. Nobody knows if any transfer would work out, but the odds are Egan would strengthen their back line seeing as he’s in the top 15 players for defence statistics measured bar 1 or 2.

Out of interest how many Blades would you put into a squad of 25 from Chelsea, Leicester, Man United,Wolves and Blades?

I don’t understand the question? Are you asking which blades players would make their squads?

Each side has to select 25 players to register at the start of the season.
I'm asking if you had to create a squad of 25 from the current 3rd-7th placed sides, would you put any Blades in there?

Of course. Henderson, the entire back 5, Berge, Fleck and Norwood are all in contention. I take it you wouldn’t?

United are a great side, everyone knows their job like clockwork, we are superb in possession and rarely give the ball away. They are determined, well drilled and relentless in pursuit of the ball out of possession. But that has been the case for the last four seasons, they clearly concentrate on small sided, close possession games in training because its like second nature to every player in the squad.

The truth is, that ‘Pundits’ are just a bunch of chancers, spouting the same shit everyone else does. They have no more football nous than anyone else, who’s ever played the game. They get the job through the Old pals network, because they are ex pros and therefore have a perceived credibility. Not one single ‘expert’ said “Watch Sheffield United this season, because they have a style, a dynamism and work ethic that means they would excel in any league in the world”. Because they all regurgitate the same bollocks, whilst sat comfortably aboard the gravy train, with their corporate hospitality, expense account and freebie shoes. Even now, 35 games into a 38 game season, some still can’t conceive what has happened, that its not just a fluke and we’re not just plucky one season wonders.

But, at the end of the day, who fucking cares what they say?.............................. because we know different and soon enough, they will too 🤫

Ndidi/Matic/Kante
Pogba/Fernandes/Kovacic/Maddison

You think Berge/Fleck/Norwood get in ahead of those?
Nice shift from defence to midfield. So you agree that our back 5 and goalkeeper easily makes that 25 then? 👍

O’Connell 4th behind? So Egan doesn’t make it for you? Fair enough.

Evans/Soyuncu/Maguire. - The Leicester pair get ahead of JOC/Egan using the same standards for why you put Egan at CB for Chelsea.

I'm sure Wolves fans would argue Boly over JOC/Egan.
They would argue Patricio as 3rd choice over Henderson too.

Fine margins given there’s 1 goal between Egan/JOC and the Leicester lads (with Leicester having played a game less) and par with Maguire at Man Utd. So hardly outrageous to suggest they make the squad, no?

Two sides play with a back 4, the other with a back 5.
One less player, for the same output.

Potentially explains why they score a lot more goals too.

I would argue a back 4 is more defensive than the system we play. As demonstrated by Lampard switching to 4 at the back when we were cutting Chelsea to ribbons. It’s quite simple really. I’m saying that of the teams you set, I would pick some defenders and the goalkeeper from the team with the equal best defensive record (pro-rata) and most clean sheets. Not that controversial, surely?

Hendo
Ricardo, Soyuncu, Maguire, JOC, Stevens
Berge
Tielemans Bruno
Vardy Aubameyang

Manager: Wilder

That's my XI and manager of teams 3rd to 9th. Only place i'm willing to compromise is the wingbacks but a blades player has to take up one of them.
