Firstly just to introduce myself. Long time watcher on the forum just my second post as I get my toes wet and see how we go. Anyway a short history, ex secondary school that backed on to Burngreave Cemetery as with others on here, old enough to have attended the Fa Cup semi v Leicester City 60/61? Help me out silent please, so I have suffered. Therefore I can't really believe what our team have achieved under Wilder for the very limited outlay, not forgetting Knill, Pestridge, Ward etc. Back to point, Dean Henderson has been immense and yes he seems to have lost some focus since the re start, however i believe he is wrestling as to where his short term career lies. In United's favour he wants to be in the England squad for next year's Euros, pushing and why not surpassing Pickford and Pope. To achieve that he needs to be playing first team football at the highest level possible and i can't see a better option than our premier league Blades, playing behind a defence of Basham / Ben Godfrey (a different discussion for another day) Egan and Jack. Thanks for reading utb

Must be possible that his club doesn’t rate him as highly as some do, so may consider a sale (to Chelsea?).

Marks out of 10 lost for the blatant absence of paragraphs

Only joking buddy. Welcome

Summat not right with Hendo since the lock down ended, he's looked decidedly average. I think he's got to decide if he's going to be happy as number 2 at Man Utd or sign for another team to push his claim for an England place . Welcome McDonagh Blade, excellent suggestion with Ben Godfrey would love to see him in a Blades shirt next season.

Godfrey is a good suggestion but Norwich value him at £25m and Spurs reportedly want him

There are actually a few decent goalkeepers available next season if we can't get Hendo on loan again.

All three of whatever relegated clubs have decent keepers and Jo Hart is available on a free (yes I know...)

He's a professional footballer so I can't see why his future should have any impact. Personally, I'm not buying any of this talk - he was our MOTM Vrs Aston Villa and played well yesterday...

In terms of his future, I'd assume Plan A would be to get him back on loan again for another season. If we can't do that, I trust Tufty to have a long list of young GK's who will come here and step in.

Owning your own assets and being able to sell for a profit always has to be the business model - especially for a club our size. Imagine if Henderson was ours and the cash bonanza we'd be about to receive!!

Ramsdale as no 1 with Hart as back up would be a decent alternative.

I just can't see Henderson coming back...

The thing is the delayed Euros might work in our favour (obviously wish that they weren't for obvious reasons).

If Henderson wants to dislodge Pickford he has a longer period of time to do so and he can only do so by playing here.

Man U probably won't sell to a rival, the only team with money (potentially) who aren't a rival who would have to pay him a fortune would probably be Newcastle.

Is there any team abroad actually who may want him?

I share your sentiments. Goalkeeping has changed in our lifetimes (you must have been brought up on Hodgy), but one truth remains under-appreciated - if you have a dodgy keeper, then you have a problem. Looking at the Premier League keepers this season, there have been few better than Henderson. One howler so far (Liverpool at home), and a few ‘could have done better’. And several outstanding performances. If we aren’t able to have him next season, it would be a difficult job to replace him. Ramsdale from a relegated Bournemouth might be a realistic option.

Thanks for making me feel at home and i will work on my punctuation.

Henderson would have to be another loan, can't see us being able to get anywhere near his Man Utd salary.

Godfrey, enjoyed the Dad's Army reference. Ben is a Yorkshireman and may fancy coming back to our county to get regular Premier league football under our management team. Yes wouldn't be cheap however he should be an asset that only appreciates.

I don't really get why people think this..

Henderson's rise has been quick and this is his first full season on loan at a premier league club, where he's been very good but has to give a lot of credit to the defence as well, its not just him who keeps clean sheets its restricting chances thats most pivotal there's only so much a goalkeeper can do if its an easy chance.

De Gea has made a few mistakes (albeit higher profile than Henderson's 3/4 goals) but has been one of the top goalkeepers in the world for over five years and is on massive money.

Man Utd are set to offer Henderson his 3rd contract in 3 years and people don't think they rate him?

He's miles off De Gea at the minute IMO his distribution and near post mistakes have cost us and he should've done a lot better on 2/3 goals just since the restart, not including one he parried into his net that got disallowed against Spurs.

I wouldn't pay 40m or the quoted prices that fly around here, this is a good year for keepers and we shouldn't continue to pay 55k a week to a keeper that's not ours and we can't recoup any of that money.

Respectfully disagree with that last bit. Paying the extra loan fee and wages for Henderson for a year pays for itself with a higher league table position finish than we would have had with anyone else realistically.

Yes I remember Hodgy and Joe Shaw, a great combination and appeared so slight in build compared to today's athletes. What a telepathic relationship they had though.

I didn’t say people don’t rate him, but that Man U don’t rate him as highly as some do.
If they did they would sell De Gea and use H

Maybe you're right. Bet Utd are regretting offering De Gea that new contract

That's my sentiment. If we're paying/investing c£2m a year into an asset we don't even own, it doesn't seem to make much sense.

Played well yesterday, really. Could easily given away 2 goals when pushing it out instead of catching it.

Enjoyed starting this off and the varied responses and opinions, which i have heard it is all about.

My last thought is Ramsdale is apparently a lovely lad, however we would be badly weakened by his signing and neither of our current back up keepers appear to be in Wilders thoughts as serious competition. Therefore back to Henderson on loan or whom?

I think Ben Godfrey is way out of our budget. It will be morelooking at 3-4 players for £20million combined. plus any loans/free transfers which is where I think we will look to be much better with next season.

I do think Henderson will be back on another season long loan though, but the sooner we sign a permanent keeper the better.

Stan Collymore thinks he should go to a club in England with real expectations. IMG_20200706_205936.jpg

Whilst I don't agree, I get what he means. Man U are just a bigger club than us. If he had made an error for them against Liverpool like he did for us the scrutiny/pressure and expectation would be so much greater.

Celtic may go in for him now Forster may not go back, so he may be tempted by a year of trophies there and Champions League Football with a huge club.

Fraser Forster is available as hasn't been able to agree a permanent switch to Celtic.

The fee is apparently £6m. Not sure about wages but at that price i'd be snapping their hand off.

Good keeper and I can see us being the sort of club that would sign him.

Go and wash yourself thoroughly in bleach!!

Forster is on truly staggering wages - hence why Celtic are struggling to land him
