Who else would like to see blades do well in a cup run ? (since warnock), instead of playing a team like Hartlepool, and if im not mistaken most of the team that played tonight was actually our first team? anyone else worried? or is everyone resigned to the fact we are hopeless in the cup since warnock days?

Don't give a flying toss about the Carling Cup to be fair. What does concern me though is that a fairly strong team was outplayed...............

I think the results last night and the contempt that the top teams see cup matches say it all.

I think with reduced squads managers will be telling their players to get through games without injuries or bookings.

Not saying we shouldn't have won....but I can understand why we may have not been too bothered.

How sad is football getting? :(

Chill out guys. Its the second game of the season and he hasn't been able to name the same side yet - so again no consistency! The two young lads who played probably aren't ready for regular first team action yet and this was an opportunity to blood them. Yes we would all like a cup run but with our squad not fully assembled the manager had to put together a patchwork team again.

So we're out out the Carling Cup.....big deal! If we beat QPR on Saturday I won't be thinking about Hartlepool.

Aye, big deal, poor old Blackie having to put together a patchwork team. Never mind that he can't organise it or motivate it, he's only paid about £300k per annum (my guess) but so what? Big deal that a big second tier club hasn't got the ability to construct a proper squad before the season starts. Will we fill the bench on Saturday, who cares? Thousands of once loyal, diehard fans don't care any longer so you're probably right, big deal.

Yawn..........

It's football, get over it. Smile a little :)

Someone once said sarcaism is the lowest form of wit. I'm not sure about that whatever makes you feel better.

I wouldn't read too much into it. Championship players always swing the leg in this fixture.

Read a lot into it. We were awful and outplayed by a lower division team. I've seen it all before and couldn't really care about that bit. But make no mistake, against poorer opposition here was our chance to show that we intend, if indeed we do, to change our approach to the game. And sadly, we don't.

Aimless hoof's to the region of a solitary striker, time after time after time. I was disgusted and it's the same pure crap we endured last season. Not crap becuase we aren't able to pass the ball. Crap because we didn't try to. Ever.

The side playing the football were managed by Wednesday's worst manager in years with a truly shoestring team.

If that's us then I want none of it. Roll on 10 games in when calling for the manager's head wont seem quite as fickle.

Look, it is a shite result, and that is apparent to all. However, i am not going to complain about it too much because for the duration of last season i complained we were playing too many journeymen and not enough kids from the academy. Last night, we played 2 kids, they may not have been up to the mark but at least they were given a go. It was a game that meant nothing to the fans really, but will have meant a lot to those 2 lads who played. I'm just happy to see some youth in the side and the result was actually a second importance. However, i do feel that there are 5 or 6 players which will be replaced come saturday so isnt really a full side by any stretch. Still should be turning over the likes of hartlepool but c'est la vie. Bring on QPR.

Did The Maestro not 'protect the back four' in his inimitable way?

Have we seen the first of many bomb scares from The Joke?

Can The Hoof change his spots?

La plus ca change....

It's only football? Not bad for someone who has posted 1500 in less than 10 months, it's no wonder I don't talk to my mrs about football.

Whatever team and whatever intentions we have in the cup do you believe that 2 shots in 90 minutes is acceptable? and what IF we don't beat QPR... will you remember this game then?

FA Cup yes, but to be honest the Carling Cup is a hinderence these days coming so early in the season. As others have said, you only have to look at the results and the teams other clubs put out to see it's nothing more than a pre-season friendly type game these days.

It's also a myth to think we did well under Warnock in the cups, 02/03 and a couple of fairly good runs in the FA Cup, we were just as bad for the most part.

It would be nice just once to see us bang 4 or 5 past someone/ anyone. Havent seen it since 2008 with Leyton and Charlton. Cardiff did it last night after a shaky start

Wether anyone gives a flying toss about the Carling Cup does not matter one jot! We were outplayed by Hartlepools last night despite fielding Simonson, Morgan, Ertl, Taylor, Montgomery, Britton, Cresswell, Yeates, with Ward, Bartley coming on as subs, thats nearly 85% of our first X1 !
Blackwell was making excuses before the game and sounded totally downbeat in the pre match interview.
If I was in charge at BDTBL I would call Blackwell in this morning and demand to know why we were so pathetic! That side last night should be destroying sides like Hartlepool - according to Keith Edwards it was on par with Peterborough away last season I was there and that was POOR.
We are supposed to be a Professional Football Club - there was nothing professional about last nights performance - don't blame it on the 'Carling Cup Syndrome'
Last year we were as bad against Port Vale which set the tone for the season DEJA VU anyone ?

Not bothered about the Cup. . yada. . younsters . . yada . . too early in the season. . . yada . . only a game . . yada . . squad bedding in . . yada . . if we get promoted . . yada . . different on saturday . . yada ..

Just thought I'd let you have some phrases to copy and paste come second week in January when we decide not to bother with the last of the three competitions we have entered this season.
Congrats to Hartlepool for, joining Peterboro from last season, beating us for the first time ever.

Appreciate what you're saying but last night was a game we didn't want and despite what the players/management say, we weren't up for it whereas they obviously were. OK, we should approach it like a league game and give 100% but unfortunately it's not that way anymore and it's not just us.

If you remember, we struggled to a 1-0 at home to Boston and then drew 0-0 at Shrewsbury in the promotion season so all's not lost :)

Its true that nothing seemed to have changed much. Why are we so intent in protecting the first team players?. Winning can be a good habit and last night was a chance to impose ourselves and give the first team a chance to gel. By all means introduce youngsters when appropriate but one at a time ffs when the seasoned pros can guide them along and cover for them. Unlike most others I was dissatisfied with Sunday too. The performance was poor with little being created and we reverted to the away tactics of last season. Lats face it...Cardiff were crap too. The point was good and well competed for by the ten men but that is as far as it goes. Think back to last season, first game, some of us were saying then that we are mid table, I have seen nothing to change that.

Yawn, yawn, yawn.

Where's Bill Murray?

Come Xmas, we'll have forgotten about the Hartlepool game. Yes, we should have won, given the side we put out. But it was only the league cup. I don't think it's a coincidence that other big sides in our league went out Tuesday night too.

Bring on QPR, a game with some meaning

I post on here because I enjoy discussing it, but I dont feel like the world is going to cave in every time United lose. FFS get over it! I know some people dont like losing in any aspect of their life but you've got to take the rough with the smooth. Lots of teams at our level have gone out in the first round to lesser opposition. It happens.

What's this got to do with your mrs?

Two shots in 90 mintues is awful yes .......... I forgot that Hartlepool were obliged to roll over and surrender in front of us. How dare they try and win the game!!!! United are so incompetent, my life isnt fair!!!!

Nice to see some have their head screwed on!

Got it wrong Lou - its the Blades that generally roll over and surrender - No back bone, no passion, no pride and no Bollocks!!!

There comes a time when all of Blackwell's sympathisers start looking silly when trying to defend his management and you have sadly crossed the line Lou, shame really but it happens to em all.

What's it got to do with my mrs? I thought you were female because of your name and the fact you said 'it's only football'

Hartlepool were not obliged to roll over, but we did....

Its not about losing -its the manner in which they lose!!
And to whom they lose to!
It was Hartlepool not Man Utd !!!

Can we close this thread and just have a sticky thread called 'Suicidal' that can be used whenever we lose?

Does any part of you understand that I/we are talking about the inability to keep the ball and create chances rather than the defeat itself?

Haha! Whats line? At what point have I defended Blackwell in these posts. I'm afraid the so called "knockers" like yourself and Len are the ones that look silly Mic, and you have really emphasised that with your last post. You do make me laugh you guys though :) you make out that the majority are the ones that are daft, yet your clear minority have all the answers. If you say so!

Here's a tip - support your team and stop being so obsessed with Blackwell.

I have maintained countless times that I am unsure of whether Blackwell is right for the job and I am still not at all convinced by him..........but what will moaning achieve?! He's the manager of the team/club I love. So I am going to get behind him!

It's not that we lost, it's the manner in which we lost. Please don't let anybody say it's only football again. People spend alot of money and time on the Blades to have to listen to that crap. I am still upbeat over the season but my swingoemeter took a beating last night
