I reckon Berge could do a job in the Egan role

I’m guessing you thought Michael Higdon was the answer to all our problems at the time. What have you made of Berge’s performances so far then generally? Since I’m so thick.
He’s been pretty invisible. To balance - He’s been playing a position unfamiliar to him, at the age of 21/22 in a brand new country and an Unconfident team. But there’s a reason the best manager in our lifetime thought he was worth our record transfer fee.

I happen to think he’s a huge upgrade on Norwood given time and a run of games.

I've defended Genk in another thread.....

But he was playing for a poor side by CL standards.
Oh my good lord.
If you’ve defended Genk in another thread just ignore the fact he’s played for a ‘poor side’ in the CL.

It’s like you want to cause an argument with every post 😂

I'm not looking to cause an argument in the slightest.
But you just admitted your argument for him being a good player is youtube highlights of one match.

I've known about Berge since we signed Ndidi 3/4 seasons ago (Can't remember off the top of my head, don't shoot me).
Retsos I had known since he came out of Greece, he was the best CB out of their since Manolas, an obvious comparison for them to make really. If you were not aware, Manolas is a very good CB playing for Napoli alongside Koulibaly.
Koulibaly is another ex Genk development player ironically, one of the players I used to explain how successful Genk have been with their devlopment.

I've defended Genk for their ability to develop players, not their CL resume.....Which as you would expect for a side from the Belgian League, is not brilliant.

Blind faith is just as annoying as bed wetting.

Give the man a chance to play, from the start, in his preferred position.
3212 or whatever nonsense you suggested will do him no favors either.

He seems to be too nice, I know the Scandinavians are a placid bunch but a bloke that size in the centre of the midfield should be putting himself about a bit more, not that I advocate getting booked needlessly but to just rough someone up a bit and take charge.
Plenty of videos of Patrick Vieira knocking about the net for him to look at if theres anyone worth modelling yourself on

Knew about him from the time Genk signed him thanks mum. However the Liverpool game (against the best team at our level) is an easy one to look up on YouTube rather than every game of the Belgian league in 2018/19.
Whatever nonsense? You mean the formation that got us promoted?

It provides a deeper midfield position that Ollie Norwood perfected last year. If you don’t know best just to keep your mouth shut.

You did not play 3212 last season, that is what I called nonsense.

It was a 3412 with a 10 from what I remember, with Duffy doing really well there.
Why didn't you guys give him another year?

Honestly, why is Berge being singled out for criticism tonight?

The game was dead when he came on. He didn't do anything overly positive or negative in the 2nd half. Stop making him the scapegoat.

Moore, Jagielka, Robinson, Stevens, Lundstram, Norwood, Fleck, Mousset all absolutely dire tonight.

Baldock & Basham laboured without quality, but at least they put the effort in. McGoldrick tried to get us going, he improved us significantly in the final third. Zivkovic showed some encouraging signs.

Berge was fairly anonymous, so unsure why we have to continue to vilify him. It's poor support for a young lad trying to adapt. He seems a bit nervous at the moment, maybe lacking in confidence, what do you think berating him on forums & social media is going to do for him?

Berge is fast becoming the scapegoat. Based on the fee I suspect (which he did not set).

Nobody can say he has had a great start, I am sure Berge himself would acknowledge that, however, he has not even played a dozen games and people are writing him off....really?

He may turn out to be a poor signing (or vice versa) but surely now is too early to judge that.

I posted before, and stick by my previous comments.

Footballers are not immune to settling in difficulties when relocating to a new country, they need to adapt, they need to find their feet in a new system with new teammates...add into that being played out of your natural position...losing some match fitness during lockdown.

Not saying we should get the violin out for him but really think we should give him more than a dozen games before we write him off.

Hence the 1-2... 😂😂🤣

He played (well didnt play) for Stoke. And then went to Den Haag. Does that answer your question?

Based on absolutely nothing other than highlights of Genk vs Liverpool. A very weird opinion.
Weird? Not really that weird considering every top team in Europe was scouting him and as Chris concedes the only way we could’ve signed him was in January.
It takes some players longer to adjust to leagues than others.

I thought Berge showed some encouraging signs when he came on. We were all chasing shadows.

I'd start him over Norwood next match. Norwood's been dire since the break.
Wow ,just wow. You honestly think that ? I know its about opinions but I just despair at what some people see.

What makes you think that seriously from what you have seen of both of them in a Utd shirt ?

Not everything has to be based on what you see of them in a United shirt
Wilder didn’t sign him for 20mil because of his performances in a United shirt

100% agree with this. Especially january transfers have a harder time to adapt. And Berge is also a young player. At Ajax, David Neres played alright the first half year when we signed him but still got criticized a lot by most of our fans bc he was one of our most expensive signings.

After a half year of settling in he showed his talent and went up against the best teams in the world and decided games our national "rivals" and European giants like Real Madrid and Juventus.

I know Berge has tons of potential, whether he's gonna succeed in the PL is still undecided but the shit he's receiving right now is not fair.

He bottled a header on the edge of their box I don’t see where he can play.

Of course it does ,I dont give a fig what they have done elsewhere ,otherwise Ian Rush would be one of our best ever players. I dont care what anyone costs either ,thats not the issue here ,its what they give to us ,and to say Berge is a massive upgrade on Norwood is bizarre.

I know you're a huge Norwood fan & we've clashed previously when I've been critical of him, but I've never seen him perform as badly as I have these last three games.

I'm used to him having a bad game once in every 5, or 6 & usually when he does the whole team struggles to get going such is the importance of his role within the team.

Even Gary Neville said as a neutral when the teams came out in the second half ',Norwood must be injured hes been their best player'.
Hes getting pelters mainly for an overhit corner ,not one player did well last night yet he seems to get it more than anyone , I think our biggest issue is the left hand side ,Fleck and Stevens are horribly out of form ,but they will play themselves back in. To start replacing them with players who are showing nothing will not do us any good.

Berge needs to be playing as part of a double pivot in Serie A or La Liga.

As for CB..... no. He has zero aggression. At least in the PL.

The PL might just be a bit too much for him at this stage. Especially in a team like ours. We don't give him the best chance to shine, that's for absolutely certain.

He’s literally walked the walk against some of the best in Europe man for Christs sake

I dont care if you care what anyone costs, Chris will. And Chris signed him with that in mind.

I’ve said elsewhere that Berge reminds me of early Coutts or Louis Reed in terms of neat and tidy nothingness of the periphery but an older comparison cane to me - Jamie Hoyland. Came to us from a third tier side, had a good reputation, scored goals and used his frame well at Bury...and could not get going in division 1 at all in our first season back. He had his moments after that but was never convincing.

ive seen every game Berge has played for us and don’t understand what he brings to the table that improves the team. At present it looks a poor bit of business and it will be a double problem if we now don’t have the money to pick up the forwards we are crying out for.

If he doesn't look like clicking here, and the budget is increasingly a problem, then our best option might be to use him in an exchange deal to bring in a player who's a more guaranteed performer in our team to ensure we stay out of trouble next season.
