Think people get carried away with all the doom and gloom on here and twitter.

Wilder has the highest standards and I don't feel concerned at all longer term. He is seeing these performances like the rest of us and knows how thin our squad is and how poor our backup squad players are. All the blame can't be put on the makeshift defence though and maybe we are realising that we were winning games by fine margins. If Henderson doesn't pull off some wonder saves or we get a bad hawkeye decision the game and confidence can go completely the other way.

With this in mind Wilder will know he needs to strengthen and make changes in the summer. It is better to be in this position then get some lucky performances last few games of the season which cover up the cracks in the team. These injuries and poor displays show the group isn't invisible and can lose confidence. We are under no threat to get relegated this season so lets really asses the likes of Luke Freeman and others in the last 7 games to see who we can rely on next season.

I can't thank this team enough but no matter what happens we know we have someone that is capable of making the tough decisions to keep the club moving forward. Moving the likes of Duffy on showed Wilder is ruthless. Chris will take us onwards and upwards but don't write that team off after 3 poor games!

Absolutely spot on. Like everyone (I'm in the US), I've watched the last three pedestrian performances with dismay but at the end of the day, thank goodness they don't mean anything at this stage of this ridiculous season. The shutdown hurt us badly but at least we're not fighting relegation with these types of performances.

To the players and club, thank you for making my viewing of matches a joy to watch pre-Covid. You made SUFC a household name again.

The first 5 minutes showed we still have it in the locker but why we let it slide totally after 2-0 I don't know.

he hasnt been ruthless enough handing out contracts to old players like sharp McG etc. We look like an old team all of a sudden

That decision did sound mild alarm bells at the time, now with the talk of a reduced budget those bells are clanging like Quasimodo is swinging on them.

Looking at the villa forum and seeing how they speak of Chris in comparison to Dean Smith makes you realise just how well respected and sought after our gaffer is

Reminiscent of the new contract Clarke was given which would have really bitten us on the arse if we hadn't gone up.

If only Luke Freeman could get a game

It strikes me as thinking we aren’t certain we can improve on those two with the expected budget.

Whose given you our budget info for next season? Didn't realise it was public knowledge.

Don't mean anything?? Course they do. Euros to play for. I 100% expected the same if not more effort than usual after Lockdown. Can't believe the lack of it. It's as if they don't fancy a shot at European football. Pissed off.

Wilder has said it’s been reduced from the pre Covid budget,,, then we offered Didsy and Sharp extensions.

Yeah but at 1-0 we played as though we were 5-0 down. We just went through the motions. No fight, no attacking intent, no SUFC.

The problem is they DID mean something. A possibly of the Champions League or at worse Europa League

Honestly.

We were never gonna get a result at OT.They are almost on a par with Liverpool and City atm.

We were rather dubiously fiddled out of 3 points at Villa.

The Geordies. Bad day at the office. We all have em !!

I just can’t get overly “down” about tonight.

Our season starts (again) this Sunday 😀.

A big factor in United's success has been having two centre-backs charging forward to overload the opposition defences.
Also, in the Prem, they were playing just one game a week - giving time to recover.
Now we are without Jack, playing two games a week and in high temperatures. No wonder the players don't have as much energy.
Should Wilder play a different formation until Jack returns? Would that make any difference?
I think this season is as good as over -- but what do I know?

An actual positive from me. I thought Moore looked fine. I felt comfortable with him in goal. Didn't do anything particularly wrong. Good early distribution.

Apart from the fact that they are 14+ points away from those two and its a team we have already given a damn good game to this season with key players missing.

So? we have had the played more football which should improve match sharpness not make it worse.
Yes having less recovery time and then playing in the heat is well known to increase energy levels.

They are not the same side we played at BDTBL.

Not even close actually.
