For me yes, he was average against Villa and put in one of the worst individual performances of the season today. We can’t take the chance that he will be equally as bad against much better opposition on Wednesday.

A precedent has to be set to the players after that, it was totally unacceptable.

I think that more sets a precedent that the knee-jerk reaction will always reign. Get a grip man.
 
Change shape and drop Norwood. I love Jags but when he came on against Man U at home he had a right torrid time of it. He doesn't have the legs for 90 minutes anymore.

We need creativity badly and for that I'd bring Didzy back. I'd go for something like this.

Berge in his natural position and shoring up the defence. Still with a midfield three but Didzy linking between midfield and attack. Mousse for pace and McBurnie doing the grunt work. Freeman for Didzy when he inevitably gets knackered. Sharp for McB and Zivkovic for Mousse when the time comes. Jags to come on and revert back to the usual shape if it doesn't work.

And I'm not bothered if it's harsh to drop Norwood. I'll probably calm down a bit tomorrow but for me that was a droppable performance. Could even argue that Osborn for Stevens would be a good move.

I’ve got a grip. We’ve been utter dog shit for 180 minutes. We play the same way on Wednesday we will do well to keep Man U in single figures.

I’d rather be knee-jerk than continue to persist playing someone wildly out of position when it’s clearly not working, just because we’ve broke our transfer record to sign him.

Think Berge being stronger and harder to dispossess will be useful in the middle. Can't be having sloppy passes in midfield against Man U, and Norwood needs a shake so two birds one stone.

Likewise Sharp and McBurnie, no way should they be rewarded with a start after the last two games.

McBurnie and Berge on the bench, sick of seeing abject performances from them. I forgive individual errors but not strolling around like these 2 have in the past 2 games.

Norwood, without the balls up from the GLT, would’ve won us the game against Villa. He’s had a nightmare today but you are totally wrong suggesting that dropping a player after 1 bad game is the correct precedent. Especially a player who has proven to make us tick when he’s on song over the last couple of years.

It's not so much that people want it but we want to see the best of Berge. He supposedly played well against Liverpool in this position and if he's the player he looks to be it will give everybody a bit more time. I've always laughed when other teams try to shoe horn players into positions they haven't shone in but now we're doing it.

Villa should have done what Newcastle did to us today.

Is dropping a player who’s been in similar form to Norwood all season setting a good precedent as well? It wasn’t a ‘bad’ game, it was abysmal. Watch the third goal again and tell me that Norwood hadn’t downed tools and jacked it in. He does that on Wednesday and we get pummelled.

You laugh at teams shoehorning players in so you’re willing to drop one of our players of the season for a lad who’s not shown anything in a handful of games?

Emotions are high but you’re speaking out of your arse. I never suggested dropping Lunny, I disagreed with the lineup as I have stated Fleck, Norwood and Lunny is our best midfield.
Personally think on the third goal McBurnie’s dreadful pass to Norwood didn’t make it easy for him. But again, one bad game and you’re chucking him out the team?

Assuming JOC is still out, McGoldrick is fit, and Jagielka hasn’t recovered in time to start (cue “how can he be fit enough to be on the bench if he’s not fit to start?”) I’d go with:

Moore
Baldock Basham Rodwell Robinson Stevens
Lundstram Norwood Fleck
McGoldrick Mousset

I did consider whether given Stevens’s performance it would be worth moving or dropping him. Moving him means we are changing 4 of the positions out of the keeper/defence rather than just the 2. I think that’s too many to not make the disjointedness even worse. Chucking in Rodwell and keeping the rest the same, while reverting the midfield and attack to a more familiar feel, should mean we see an improvement. Hopefully.
