We beat Palace in the League Cup under Warnock with a Peschisolido goal so far offside he was practically in Derbyshire.

I remember this well but the question is - should we have let Palace equalise if we couldn't have persuaded the referee to disallow the goal as we all knew that it was well offside?

If not, why not?

P.S. I think we should just put Midweek behind us and get on with the next 10 or hopefully 12 games.

Mistakes happen in football, it's part and parcel of the game but unfortunately society has become so self entitled that mistakes aren't allowed, blame has to be attributed and retribution sought for even the smallest misdemeanour.

I prefer a more relaxed attitude and accept that all humans have failings and that sometimes they may impact on me, because I know that I will make mistakes that impact on others and I'd like them to be viewed in the same way.

What was that game a few years back where somebody scored a goal and the ball bounced out of the net and it wasn't given?

Think it was a Championship match.

I think it's happened a few times, as I said mistakes happen, that's life.

Accept it and move on.

Technology wasn't involved in the decision making process of football back then. This is unequivocally proven that it was a goal and the technology decision making either GDS and/or VAR didn't work. I'm not advocating we try and get a replay or sign a petition or whatever, but to highlight mistakes in the past which was human error is pointless.

You're preparing for a meeting with a client that you've known about for ages. You know what the agenda is and you know what the issues are. You make your notes and prepare your samples but forget to take them with you. Forgivable?

Ridiculous analogy but the answer is yes anyway.

You can always arrange another meeting at a later time.

Oh so we want a replay then?
Why ridiculous?
You're preparing for a Premier League match you've known about for ages. You know what the requirements for your equipment are. You test it and forget to switch it on (or whatever happened or you forgot to test it). Forgivable? ;)

The officials made a mistake.

They relied on the technology even though they had doubts about it.

If they'd had the courage of their convictions they would have referred it to VAR

Yep.

Anyone can make a mistake.

It's that sort of attitude that has got us into this shitty blame culture in the first place

They had no doubts as quite clearly is evident, they trust the GDS 100%. The VAR refs should be checking everything and should be recommending to the on field referee. That's where the 2nd and probably ultimate fault lies, however if they did it would contradict the fact that they do 100% trust GDS. They didn't recommend anything because of that 100% trust

As I said, they placed over reliance on the technology and in fairness I can understand why.

They should have questioned it and I bet they will if similar circumstances occur again.

Jeez Maidenhead is questioning something in a reasonable way on a football forum not allowed now? Not sure I was blaming anybody, rather than responding to what you'd said, in what I thought was a neutral, enquiring way giving a possible counter-proposal.

It's attitudes like that put an end to constructive discussion, if I may say so.

I totally agree with you about the blame culture though

And there was I thinking that you were suggesting that going to a meeting without a sample was "unforgivable" whereas I think it's an oversight.

The concept of unforgivable and mistake don't go together for me. (not to confuse innocent mistake with gross negligence, but I'm not going there)

There’s no blame culture at the PL or Mike Riley’s bunch of winged monkeys grubby set up.

I get the point but there is a distinction between a simple refereeing error and what happened to us. The failure of Hawkeye brings questions about the system. It's always painful but it's nothing new if a referee drops a bollock. But the flimsy explanations so far call into question how the system functions and exposes that the referees and VAR team aren't even aware of what to do in such a situation.

I've not been whining about it and I've not been calling for a replay of the match or any such thing, but this is still pretty serious.

Watford v Reading. Goal given that was 10 yards wide of the goal.

But did this 'Technology' fall out of the sky?

For starters, VAR and Hawkeye were both created by humans and VAR is still controlled by humans.

"This is unequivocally proven that it was a goal and the technology decision making either GDS and/or VAR didn't work."
VAR was working fine, hence the replays showed it was in.

Hawkeye clearly failed. But it is the first time we've had this issue.....A vast improvement on the amount of controversy that existed before.

Every single team that has ever played football has been on the wrong end of a terrible penalty/red card/offside decision.

Do we know for a fact that Peschisolido or any of his team mates were aware and absolutely certain he was offside?

Back then we all played in the same system without technology and it was understood officials would make mistakes. Now we play in a system where we will never miss a goal that is only just over the line, and the one time it will ever fail has happened to us, in an incident where it wasn’t even needed (the officials had plenty of time to watch Nyland pressing the ball against the back of the post).

I never want to see a goal walked in ever again, as we now have precedent that no one will ever deserve one.

If we didn't have GLT or VAR it would've been given!

I have seen the following:

Glenn Cockerill v Grimsby 1984 (lost 2-3)
Brian Deane v Palace 1992 (lost 0-2)
Robert Page v Coventry 2002 (lost 0-1)

All scored “goals” that were not given when the ball was clearly over the line. Cockerill’s hit the stanchion and came out, Deane’s hit the bar and bounced over the line and then out, Page’s was scrambled back over the line by the keeper.

Wasn't there one that old Colin was on the receiving end of a few years back? He might have been at Palace or QPR.

Recall him being apoplectic as you'd expect!
