Morgs on Hume...

Viewed it. Horrific injury but as he says he played over 300 games after the injury and ignored medical advice to wear a helmet. He also confirms what we all know that it was the incompetence of the Barnsley FC Doctor who failed to send him to Hospital that led to his rapid deterioration. Even when he went to hospital they missed the diagnosis and only when he was sick in the hospital did they detect the fractured skull. Unhappy that CM didn't contact him after the game but then again confirms he may have tried.

I don't believe a lot of the bull shit he says about Morgan deliberately setting out to injure him. He also complains about Ugo in the same game. Comes across as a moaner. As the others say what Morgs did is done by others in a game. As for the bollocks about Morgan asking him to shake his hand for the cameras the season after just don't think thats Chris Morgan. If Hulme was so unhappy about that request why did he bother to shake his hand

Dingles FC and Hulme stirred up a lot of shit against CM acknowledged by the fact he had bricks thrown through his window when his children were at Home. There's two sides to a story maybe they should get CM to give his version of events.

I was at the game and I didn't think it was anything at the time. Hume had been like a wasp at a picnic throughout that game and I was quite glad when he came off second best in what looked like an innocuous challenge with Morgan.

Having seen the video again I think there's no doubt at all that Morgan deliberately clobbered him with his elbow. I'm pretty sure that he would have never intended to seriously harm the bloke, and Hume himself has said the same, but if you can watch the video and still come to the conclusion that there was no deliberate intent then I think that's taking club/player bias a bit too far. Put it this way, if a Villa player does the same to one of our players tomorrow I think this board would be in meltdown with anger. I've got total respect and admiration for Chris Morgan as a player. But on this occasion he stepped over the line for me.

Exactly my thoughts, he seems to have a bit of an issue with most people in the game. If anyone listens to the entire podcast to the end, he is now sat around at age 36 wondering why people in the game don't return his calls these days. If you have built up good friendships in the game over the best part of 20 years then why are they not returning your calls? why have you been club hopping around India? when that isn't really where you want to be.

No way did he deserve that injury or the shit care he received afterwards (which he finally admits to because I am sure he didn't at the time) but he really does come across as a bit of a knob and is not as respected or well liked as he likes to think he is.

Fair play to Parky and the rest for their view of Morgan's challenge as most of them didn't think there was much to it either. Even Parky said he expected to get that sort of thing from defenders playing as a striker during that era of football.

He doesn't seem the nicest of blokes, but would be seriously disappointed in Chris Morgan if he didn't make any attempts to apologise & really said "let's make it look good for the cameras."

None of that sounds very Chris Morgan to my mind, but who knows.

It was intentional alright but of course he didn't mean to injure him so severely. The fact that there'd been a double red card incident a couple of minutes before probably kept Morgan on the pitch, the ref didn't want to give another at that point.

Nowt there to change my opinion of Hume, he's a bit of a bell end. Morg's saw him coming alright and knew he was going to take a hit after the ball had gone, what I remember of it he ran into Morgan's elbow as much as Morgan swung an arm at him.
No one knew how serious the injury was until the next day by which time Barnsley FC were on a witch hunt to deflect attention from the shit care they gave one of their own players. With all the talk of court cases would you if you were Chris Morgan be making contact to see how Hume was? I think he would have been advised to do and say nothing.

I'd be very surprised if any of that is true. I think Hume is saying that because he and Barnsley set about bringing a legal case against Morgan pretty quickly and if he turns around after all this time and says actually "Yeah, Chris did contact me and make amends" it would show he was talking shit all along. Unless Morgan has or had been advised not to contact Hume by his agent, the club or whoever?

It seems like he would rather it still appear like Morgan has never tried to make amends for it, which is why it surprised both Browny and Parky as they say it is not like Chris.

Morgs played hard and loved a battle. That was the case all through his career.

He got into battles and went in hard every single game he played. When he couldn’t do that, he retired

I remember Morgs putting himself about - tevez, van persie are two that he ragged About a bit that are quite famous

Lee McCulloch at Wigan probably the only one I remember he came off second best against at United.

I was at Barnsley, Hulme went into Morgs as much as Morgs stood his ground. It didn’t look anything at the time. I don’t believe that Morgs intended to injure Hulme, but it was a result of the way he played.

Funny how Morgs always comes across as a decent bloke, but Hulme seems like a right bellend

I’m pretty sure at the time it was stated Morgan had been advised not to contact him/apologise because of possible legal repercussions.

He seemed to come across happy that Morgan's career ended through injury. You can see why some people in football don't return his calls.

On the above, I don't think checking on (or even apologising for how things turned out with) Hulme would have been seen as an admission of guilt. Would be surprised if the club advised against that.

Morgs played hard, but it doesn't excuse that incident. Hume didn't run into his elbow. Morgs checked for him and swung it out intentionally. Probably intended to catch him in the face and give him a shiner to let him know not to come challenging for headers again. Unfortunately he caught him square on the temple and the rest is history.

The incident was only an anomaly in in terms of outcome though. Plenty of footballers down the years led with the elbow going up for headers, many swung.

Then Hume can't be surprised by that then. They were pretty much threatening to go legal right after the incident especially once the FA didn't punish Morgan.

Agree with what many have said on here. I was also at the game, sat in the middle of Barnsley fans, and it did look innocuous at the time, no Barnsley fans reacted during the match. To be honest Dingles have more grievances that Scousers. They'll be creaming themselves over this thread. Anything to make themselves feel relevant

Sure that was stated at the time, whether it was correct or not no idea.

It should have been a red card. But the fact it wasn’t didn’t really need the hysteria that followed, including the involvement of the disgraced local MP Eric Illsley. I am surprised though that Morgan didn’t, if as Hume states, apologise till 8 months after the incident. People are still annoyed today with Ainsworth that he never apologised to Whitehouse, and for me 8 months is a hell of a long spell to go without doing so. Though that said, at a time legal action was threatened and MPs involved, perhaps the club advised against.

Slightly different angle, but as dirty a player Morgs was I’ve never seen an interview with him where I’ve not come away thinking “nice guy, would happily have a chat with him”. 15 or so minutes watching that interview with Hume, and I came away with a view that I’d actively avoid him in any social occasion.

Was at the game and didn't think much about it at the time.

My opinion from afterwards is still the same. The incident looks different depending on whether you view it from in front or behind. At the time various factions just used the angle that suited their agenda.

Still think it was probably a raised arm to block as he knew he was charging in from the side, rather than a swinging elbow.

Still dangerous play I suppose.

No idea about anything afterwards in terms of Morgs behaviour. I always remember the very next game at home to Reading and Coppell making a bee line for Morgs at the end to shake his hand and put his arm around him.

Thought that said a lot.

At the time I thought Morgan was standing his ground and still do having watched it again..
Certainly don’t see any swinging of the elbow.

I remember Morgs being interviewed after that wigan game when he got deliberately twatted(player who did it admitted it)
And the shiner was already out.. when asked about it Morgs shrugged his shoulders, ‘I just got on with the game’ 😃

Morgs was a dirty, dirty bastard in this incident and has been rightly vilified in opposition quarters. Any blade that doesnt wince when seeing the replay and feel sorry for Humes needs a long hard look at themselves. Morgs thoroughly let the club down in the same way that the 2 lads did against West Brom in the battle of brammal lane. No excuse to elbow a fellow pro deliberately.

Definite elbow but as has been said I don’t think he meant to do him any serious harm. Absolutely no doubt it was a red

Pure deflection and PR from Barnsley straight after the incident though, deflecting what was terrible care/treatment from their medical team.

Oh and Hume seems like a proper weasel - no wonder he struggled to get fixed up with a club.

I thought Hume came across alright. Quite entertaining, bit of a hypocrite though.
Saying he could ‘never forgive’ Morgs yet admitting he ‘left a foot in every time’ and ‘always let the defender know I was there’ and ‘made sure I took the ball but deliberately cleaned Mifsud out’ because he was a ‘cocky little shit’. Then also admitting he was a cocky little shit too. And then being mortally offended that someone may do the same to him.

I was there that day, in the shit hole stand that they gave us next to the away end. Had a good side on view of it. Didn’t seem like much at the time, you see it happen all the time.

Was it just a case of Hume coming up against a bigger, harder man?

Wasn't great from Morgan and the result was pretty shocking.

He will have meant to "hurt" Hume but in the football sense of putting him off challenging again, not in the real world sense of cracking his skull.

I remember being sat right behind the incident and said to the person next to me straight away that Morgan's getting a red for that, just because of the way it looked.

To be fair to Morgan, he did go up for every header like that. But his style of heading with arms out like He-Man was likely to get him into bother at some point.

The walk back over the hill into Barnsley from Oakwell, wasn't much fun after that!

A Blade struggling with the spelling of our home ,although yours is the only post I agree with .
Ainsworth got crucified for not apologising to Dane Whitehouse .But when the boot is on the other foot ......
Surely its not an admission of guilt if you turn up at the hospital with flowers and a card after what he went through.
Its just human compassion.
And everyone saying he comes across as a dick ,well I just don't see it .
Ps Apologies for my poor Grammar

Hume has a severe case of ‘little man syndrome’, spent all that game jumping into Ugo and Morgs knowing he couldn’t beat either in the air. Only a matter of time until one of them resorted to a bit of ‘self preservation’. The elbow was clearly deliberate, but I’m equally certain the consequences were not what was intended.

Chris Morgan and his family are well known around Barnsley and live locally, I’m sure they’d all have received a great deal of shit as a result of this incident. Eight months later, I’m sure there’d be no love lost between Morgs and Hume after civil law suits, bricks through windows and abuse in the street etc. Maybe ‘Let’s make it look good for the cameras’ meant ‘Be in no doubt, I still think you’re a fucking arsewipe’.

The way Hume came across on that ironically named ‘Under the Cosh’ a full 11 years later, I imagine he was pretty unpleasant to deal with at the time and will have made some fairly unsavoury and derogatory comments, consequently I‘m sure Morgan has plenty of cause to dislike him.

There’s no arguing that it was a terrible injury, but he needs to put a positive slant on it now. Let’s face it, if Chris Morgan hadn’t fractured his skull no one outside Barnsley would even know who he is and he wouldn’t have been invited on the podcast in the first place?

He does come across as a hypocrite in the podcast especially if anyone watched it from start to finish. It was very much like he can tackle you but you can't tackle him.

Morgan should have seen a red card or retrospective ban for what he did at most but Hume and Barnsley tried to go legal with it. I think that is why ultimately he heard nothing from Morgan in the months afterwards but I still doubt in the immediate aftermath Morgan didn't try to make some form of contact with him. Hume comes across like he wouldn't have accepted an apology anyway and had Morgan apologised he would have still gone legal I reckon.

This is the first I have heard Hume now criticise the care he got from the medical staff in the aftermath.

Ainsworth probably didn’t intend to break anyone’s leg either. Same with Sordell. Still doesn’t excuse them. Absolutely no justification for Morgan. A very cowardly situation especially if what Hume says regarding no apology is truthful. Think Hume can be excused for being bitter.
