If they get an offer I think they can recall and sell in January (i.e. we could have sold Billy in January but not brought him back to play/sit on his arse).
This is a risk we take. Taking him on loan could either prove a shrewd move by McCabe/Birch or it could back fire:
Pro's - we don't pay transfer fee and possibly don't pay all his wages. If he gets injured we send him back and it is essentially a low risk deal.
Con's - he could be recalled a) to be sold or b) if there is another clause (for example if we are not paying his full wages). If he plays really well he may attract attention elsewhere and we risk him being recalled.
As already stated, I'm happy that he is here and that's that. I think Fiery is onto something though, i'd like to knw the full extent of the deal. Surely Tricky Trev will have learnt from the debacle that was Walker's recall last year?!
