Last season was dire, make no mistake. I backed Blackwell for long enough then made my mind up that we would get nothing with Blackwell in charge last season. I wanted change early as I thought that he would go at the end of the season (sacking or resignation). However, none of that happened. I have no idea why it didn't.

However, Blackie is still with us and I am more optimistic than I was last summer. Why?

Well the club appears to have gone through a transition. It appears that a lot of the issues from last season have been or are being addressed by the club.

Between them McCabe, Birch, Blackwell and probably Pemberton (his role will become apparent in time) have looked at the problems and tried to solve them.

We've seen signs that the issues of Loan Players, Player contracts, player profiles/ types of footballers, player commitment, money grabbers etc are slowly being dealt with, personally I think we're getting back to being the down to earth club we were.

Obviously, this doesn't turn Blackie into a superstar, far from it. He has however been backed (with limited resources) by the upper management. In short, McCabe and Birch seem to have listened to hm.

What does it mean now? We're stuck with Blackie, so if we're backing him this summer, then the club need to now give him the full season, us fans also need to know the season aim, is it play offs, automatics or just pot luck

For the time being, my days of Blackie bashing have gone. We're not where we were a couple of years back, reality has hit. We need to back the club, the management and the team if we have any chance of doing well.

Lets wait for the players to start playing before we slate them for getting injured, coming back to us or not being Kyle Walker. Lets try and give the players we have a chance.

For me, last season has gone and the slate is wiped for everyone... Including Quinny! All the wasters, big earners, gobshites and Big time charleys have gone. So has Jordan Stewart.

Of course the doubters and the serial bashers will continue, I may end up back there again, but i'd rather think positive about the Blades than continually knock the life out of them for having a pink away kit or some of the other rants we've become accustomed to on here.

Bring on Cardiff...

Ps the singing section is still a crap idea:D

I've never looked forward to a season any LESS than I am with this one.

Nurse, Nurse - that's two sensible posts from different posters this morning already!

Excellent post and we should all wipe the slate clean because, love him or loath him, we're stuck with Mr B for at least the season.

"I've never looked forward to a season any LESS than I am with this one."

The tone of the season is sometimes set for me watching the first game of the season - Birmingham away two seasons ago... we played for a draw and blew it

Fucking clapper!? ;)

Well said.

I look forward to reading it all again next summer.

As for giving Hoofy the full season. Really? That's another 10 months gone down the shitter.

Spot on. The sooner Blackwell gets shit from the crowd for the inevitable shit performances then the sooner he gets to see what a real budget is like in the form of Job Seekers Allowance

Hi there everyone !
Fiery's back after the summer break and what do I see!
A forum of losers wanting to give that clown Blackwell another season
Everyone has seen him in his glory Hoofball Bully and Bullsh!t king
Last seasons France, Taylor, and Stewart signings have been replaced by Walton and Kozluk A Waster and a has-been (or never has been) and everyone saluting the fact that Monty has signed a new contract!!!
Another year down the pan - it seems I've never been away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow quite a set of generalisations there.

Glad you're back to add to the intelligent and well thought out debate ;)

Doesn't need much thinking about Bob - Kozluk was released before because he wasn't up to it - we replaced him with the Kyles who we sold as soon as we could for as much as we could - to get Kozluk back now smacks of desperation!
Walton has proven he's a waster - not good enough for Plymouth who are now on Wendys fixture list next season!

What would you think of Halford at right back, Nos/Bartley at Centre half alongside Morgs and Dickinson at left back?

Would you consider that an improvement on last season?

Halford Bartley Morgs Dickinson

Ward Monty Britton Yeates

Evans Bogdanovic

Although I don't rate Monty or Halford that highly I think it is certainly an improvement over last seasons starting 11 and that's before Willo is fit.

Halford and Bartley certainly!not sure regarding Nosworthy -too prone to gaffes Don't know much about Dickinson

We started last season with a back four of Walker, Morgan, Killgallon and Taylor so Halford(not as good a RB as Walker), Morgan (1 year older), Nos/Bartley (neither as good as Killa) and Dickinson (no idea but MUST be better than Taylor) would appear, to me, to be worse than this time last year.

We aren't talking this time last year, we are talking about over the side we finished with last season.

Is it an improvement?

That's not what you said but I'm not going into a Len style argument over it.

So we ended the season with Connoly, Morgan, Nosworthy and Naysmith. Halford and Connolly I would say are on a par (I barely saw Halford at RB and think Hoofy prefers him further forward), Morgan (1 year older), Nosworthy (same as) and Dickinson (youth on his side but probably not as good as Naysmith yet).

Touch and go.

As it goes, if you add Simmo in I think we're better off (i.e. I prefer him to Kenny)

Welcome back Fiery! Great returning post.

Aye - knew he never had his heart in it! Never mind.

Ha ha you and Ollesendro have driven me back!

I may well end up back on the dark side with you two, Fiery and Torrix, but I genuinely think lessons have been learnt.

Like it or not we're stuck with Blackie and I really hope he proves myself (from the end of last season) and the rest of the knockers

If you wish to join the clappers brigade, you'll be welcomed by me at least

I spent most of last season feeling negative and I'm far from being a clapper. I read some of this guff above in disbelief. We truly have a section of fans, or most certainly this forum does, who are almost desperate for the club to fail so that they can be proved right.

If we start the season with the squad we have now (unlikely) then I'll join your ranks. Until we kick off, why not just wait and see what happens?

Seriously chaps, find another hobby.

That back four is considerably weaker than the one we started last season with, quite obviously.
If Dickinson's the one they had at Barnsley, he's another nomark and we've all seen the liability that was the not very good Kyle.
A couple of years back we had Naughton and Walker playing fullback.
We got £8m for them and now have Kozluk and Taylor.
Appalling management.

heh.. swiss the epitome of optimism.. you're going to be disappointed mate. it is going to be groundhog day

:)Am I overly optimistic? I didn't set out to be over optimistic.

All I was saying was that the moans and groans I had at the club last season, LOOK to be getting addressed (slowly)

I'm not a fan of Blackwell, I thought he made a lot of mistakes at the end of last season.... but we've got him and he's being allowed to build a new squad, so we're stuck with him.

The team is almost entirely his now. Players like Morgs and Monty have renewed so they're now effectively Blackwell's signings.

It means that there are no excuses for him, but it also means that he will deserve any praise.

Whether I seem over optimistic is questionable, but after last season end and Englands World Cup disaster i'm raring for the season to get going and see how the new look United will slot together.

I'm with SwissBlade, let's see what happens. And I agree with Bob that the back four (provided we sign them) will be much better than what we had last season. Halford and Nossy though? surely too much in wages etc. for us?

Nosworthy is not worth the fee being asked (£500k ?) and Halford won't come back
At the moment we are saddled with no hopers like Kozluk, Taylor, France - not sure regarding Ertl - bit of a lump it merchant if my memory serves me right leaving Morgan on his own - seems like an uphill battle from the start

With the defenders presently available it will be a very large hill.

Actually you are the only one who's seen the liability that is Kyle. Most other fans seem to sympathise with the situation and think he was quite a good prospect.
I'd have him over Nos every day of the week.

Anyway I think Dickinson might have turned us down not 100% sure, but I thought you'd like that one.

Who cares Bob?
I heard a disconsolate sounding Blackie this morning suggesting we're talking to three or four clubs and something might happen after they get back from Malta.
Don't know why they don't just drop this charade and say it's going to be more loanings again and get on with it.

I can put you out your misery Len and tell you there will be loan signings for your to moan about.

A couple of loan signings, how truly shocking.
