First match 16th October 1976 , went to see George Best play for Fullam and this Player did this and that was it i had found my hero , love the way he just walks away wiping his nose after scoring this brill goal , sums the man up , what a player , and i was lucky enough to see him .
Oh and the record another all time classic Disco Duck ffs 🦆

26th December 1983 v Rotherham. Only You by the Flying Pickets. The Miner’s Strike in full swing.
 
I keep meaning to ask my dad whether I attended any match before the Leyton orient one in Aug 78 as that’s the earliest I can remember.

Once, twice, three times a lady by the Commodores which coincidently is still one of my favourite songs, especially when I’ve got my smooth mood going on
 
How some of you can remember back to the 60s and 70s and specific months I have no idea ! Clearly must have led clean lives. I recall going to that fateful Semi Final n 1993 but for my first game I have no idea, brains pickled 😂
 
August 23, 1953, defeated 4-3 by Blackpool. No. 1 was 'I Believe', by Frankie Laine. Kept my belief at the Lane ever since.
 
28th March 1961. Cup Semi final, v Leicester City: 0-0 at Elland Road. At least we didn't lose....on the day.
I've had to Google it and it was "Walk right back" by the Everley Bros.
Over 52,000 there- almost all heading up, and back, on the same routes.
My dad took me on the charabanc. A very apt song as well, as we might as well have walked back. It took us absolutely hours to get back home in all the pre-motorway traffic.
I can't say though that I associate pop music with my earliest visits to the Lane (the very early 60's). I'm not sure if they actually played stuff over the tannoy then, apart from Ilkley Moor when the teams came out.... If they did, it didn't register.🤔

It was very unusual at the time to have one player sent off, let alone 2. My vague memory (never seen an action replay!) is that nobody in the ground seemed to know why they had been sent off. It took until January 31st for Pace to be suspended. I attach below grainy photos of the game from my scrapbook.

Doc Pace had a reasonable looking goal disallowed, I was 10 at the time, my Dad was really upset, he chinned a gobby Leicester fan in the bogs after the game

A notable exception being Steve Harley’s Come Up And See Me, which has admittedly been overused in adverts recently, but is still a cracking song.

I didn’t look it up either, we saw him in Feb and he mentioned it was the week of the 45th! anniversary of his only number one, so I knew it had to be 1975. It hit home because I wasn’t even a spotty youth anymore then, I was about to graduate and enter the world of work, which I’ve now practically left.

1975 was also the best United season I had ever seen, right up until this one.......
 
Hot love by T Rex and I certainly fell in love with United and shortly after I was lucky enough to see a great performance / night watching the 5 1 win against Cardiff!
 
"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" sang by Diana Ross, was number 1 apparently when I went to my first game. A week later it was knocked off top spot by this one:



It still evokes memories of watching the Blades, going to the skates, saturday mornings at the Top Rank and fish and chips from the Harlequin chip shop on Howard Street.

Brass in Pocket - The Pretenders

Can't think of any amusing link unfortunately, but fair to say that at the time, United certainly didn't have any brass in their pockets.
 
Some reyt tunes out there.
Cannot remember my first football match exactly. Use to go to cricket matches at the Lane before I went to a football match . Think the Bramall Lane stand had just opened and possibly Cardiff City . Just remember my Dad saying they play football all here as well , when the stands finished I'll bring you. Been coming ever since. As for a song at number 1 owt will do as long as it wasn't Take That.

To be fair, given that cricket was being played at Bramall Lane when you first went, it is unlikely that Take That were number one!
 
Jan 30th 1965 lost 0-2 to Villa in the Cup. Moody Blues were No 1 with Go Now (a fucking shite cover of the great Bessie Banks classic)
