Not sure we want european football at all next season as Burnley found out it needs a big squad to keep playing on all fronts it nearly cost them their premier league status.
For sure the players will be up for challenge of finishing the season strongly.
Playing games in neutral stadiums may even be in our favour as our away form is excellent! We seem to relish playing away from home and our set up makes us really hard to beat.Just need to score a few more goals and who knows what's possible this season.

Not even Champions League?

Yeah, let's be content with finishing 17th forever
Stop being so ambitious. Our rightful place is top half championship. We’ve no right to be challenging at the top of the Premier League and should slip back quietly to where we belong.

Personally I’d hate to see my beloved blades in Europe and not only would I not travel, I’d also turn the tv off when our matches were on as I’d feel too guilty about taking the place of one of the more deserving clubs

My son sent me calcs if season ends early.

1. If they stop it now and use points average to level up games we go 6th.
2. If they use average points per game it’s 6th again.
3. If they use points from playing each team once ie half a season it’s 5th.

Problem is if they use option 3 in Championship pigs were 3rd and would get promoted :( 😷

I really can't see there being a Champions League in terms of having group stages next year. At most it might be like the old European Cup, a knock out tournament. Some countries have postponed their league season already.

Wouldn’t worry about it at the minute...but yeah, let’s hope we never play in Europe, because Burnley once struggled the season after they qualified. Fuck me.

Burnley didn’t even get through the qualification stages of the Europa League. If it had an effect, it was because they started the season very early, disrupting their pre-season preparation.

Realistically, European football is the most likely to be cancelled as I can’t see the sense of supporters from all over Europe flying to different countries. Hospitals are already preparing for a second wave in the autumn/winter and are concerned that the combination of that and the usual seasonal flu will push them to the very limited. I’ve been told this by a hospital manager.
If there is European football it is likely to be either behind closed doors or home fans only.

Not even Champions League?
It's a difficult one Silent ,I'm not a negative fan but dont want us to end up in a relegation scrap. The squad would need strengthening in a few positons.
We watch football to win every game as Wilder says !just a worry whether our progress has been too quick for our own good. The players for sure will be up for it now relegation fears have gone.It could be a once in a career opportunity for some and they will give it a right crack.
Champions league here we come.
😃

that would be hilarious ,watching them celebrate promotion to the big time and all the riches it brings ,I hope it goes on for a few weeks and then BANG ! MINUS FIFTEEN POINTS AND TWENTIETH PLACE

Extra revenue from TV money/league finish
Wouldn't be surprised if the League Cup gets canned next season so extra games won't be a problem.
Think not playing in front of a crowd will affect other European teams think it will us, so a good chance to progress.

Invest in 4/5 players while keeping the majority of the squad currently, most of our squad are use to playing a large amount of games anyway, personally don't see any downside to it. (Apart from not being able to attend)

Was thinking the same

They are talking about scrapping the League Cup which I hope doesn't happen. For me, scrap European competitions next season, it will be difficult to complete anyway if some/most countries are struggling to contain the pandemic. And focus on domestic competitions (even that might be optimistic). We could perhaps have a British Cup for the teams who would have been in Europe (would love to see us play at Celtic or Rangers!)

I think air travel restriction will take a long time. A lot safer to complete this season behind closed doors with teams staying at separate hotels near St Georges Park and play matches at St Georges Park.

Know Burnley’s relegation scare came following Europe, but they entered at the early stages, July I think, and having been in the premier League for a few years found the extra games too much

as long as we finish 7th or above, and Man City don’t get away with the CL ban, we would go straight into the group stages, starting in mid Sept.
we have been used to a season of 46 games, for a few years until now, including starting in the league cup before the Prem teams enter.
The 8 game difference between EFL & PL would take us through the group and into the 2nd round of knock outs

Us not wanting to get into Europe is as crazy as saying 12 months ago “I hope we don’t go up cos we may get our arses kicked every week”
It could have been true, ala Norwich, but it hasn’t been
Who’s to say we won’t do a Wolves last year rather than a Burnley year before?

Not even Champions League?
Not being negative silent with this post I like all blades want to win every game and European football ( preferably champions league) would be a great achievement.
Every action we make has a consequence and qualifying puts us in that position.
I think most of us think of the downside which could happen in worst case scenario !
that doesn't stop us reaching for the stars.
It would be great to finish 5 brig it on.

Yep we won 2-0 finally getting the better of a lower league Bury.
They had a young lad George Jones playing for them in the games and he gave an aging Joe Shaw a tough time.
I left school the following Easter
1963 the following winter was the last time a season was interrupted for a long period of time.Boxing day 1962 towards the en o February 1963 we are fast catching up with that.

Sadly, I just don't care where we finish in the league any more, because if we finish in the European places there's not much likelihood of us playing in Europe as others have pointed out.

To be honest I'm slowly coming round to the idea of just writing it all off the longer it goes on and the more the plans for the restart become clearer.

For our own selfish reasons we all want to finish the season and finish the fairytale story off – me included. But you can't really argue with the point that playing on a neutral ground and in front of no fans preserves the integrity of the game any more than wiping off the results does. You also can't really argue that it's fair to make footballers play against all government advice on social distancing, essential work, etc. AND further to that, you can't argue it's a worthwhile use of resources when Liverpool fans inevitably flood the streets when they win the title (you can't ever really justify that to be honest).

With all that said, what's the point? It's money, pure and simple.

I'll probably watch it, but I'm not going to follow it like I did before.

You can only hope that there's some kind of breakthrough in science or the virus just magically disappears, in a way that enables us to return to normal life and attending Bramall Lane by the end of the year. Other than that, football will just end up been another subscription for people to spend their money on during the pandemic, like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Beer52 or Virgin Wine Club. Nothing more, nothing less.

Anyway, up The Blades! Hope you're all having a nice weekend.

Yeah fuck success, I was overjoyed when hopkin smacked that one in, the only thing that made me happier was I'd got a good 5 hour journey in front of me to get home ..

The palace fans were jumping up and down complaining when it went in, they clearly didn't fancy the step up either..

This is great, I didn't know about this. Before my lifetime so my point still half stands ;)

What's the back story to this? Why was it at the sty?

After playing the replay at Bramall lane any further replays have to be played in neutral grounds unless the clubs agree to toss a coin for the winner to play at home.
Tossing a coin happened a lot in the few years before penalty shoot outs were introduced.

Forgot to mention a Coin toss decided where it would be played we won that and chose Hillsborough.
