I'm sure this has been done before more than once, but anyway...

All-time greatest XI throughout history to the present day? You don't have to have seen them play.

Few certains: Currie, Shaw, Harry Johnson (?), a select one or two from the current side surely?

I tried to fit the best players I've seen within our current system. That means Woody and Hockey miss out as well as Badger and Pace. Also Billy would have had a shout alongside Deane but I just think Beattie shaded it because of the amount of crosses we get in. Tons of midfielders could have got in but I didn't have the pleasure of seeing Hagan and if we go back to the double pivot with an attacking axis then Currie would be the best ever at the attacking part with two midfielders who can both attack and defend behind him. Enda and Kyle have phenomenal pace and the back three would be solid and Harry likes to get forward and JOC already does. To me Alan Kelly pips Hendo.

Barney, old fart SOS, picked my team but cannot see, I suppose it's obvious, how to transfer to your thread. Thanks.

Click on search at the taskbar at the bottom, type in snipping tool and then click on snipping tool before copying in your team and then paste in the thread

Click 'download image' in the buildlineup website, then 'insert image' above text box on this website. Click on drop image and it'll bring up a separate window, select your team image and it should work.

Selecting only from players within my lifetime.
Brown and Fleck wouldn't be as wide as pictured here, this is the closest formation I could find. They would tuck inside and let Stevens & Walker tear down the wings.

Oh what a joy it would be to see Sharp and Deane playing together, with Didsy feeding them.

I understand why people choose players they’ve actually seen but I think an exception should be made for Jimmy Dunne. He is the most obvious candidate for world class status we have ever had.

Not that he’s no longer active in the game either. 70 years after being buried in his Blades shirt he’s still thwarting the pig, Vardy, whenever his consecutive goals record gets within sight .

Very close to mine although I'd include Graiger who I suspect was before your time , use a 4-3-3 formation with Hockey as holding midfield and , on the basis that McGrath was fucked by the time he joined us (though still a very good player ) , play Egan alongside Joe .

.......................Kelly...............
Badger. Egan. Joe Shaw. Stevens .
....................Hockey ..........
........Hagan . .................Currie
Woodward.......Deane .........Grainger

I would have great sympathy for any player from an opposing team who was asked to play against this line up . :)

Interesting reading this now, a number including Stevens and Fleck in their all time eleven. A year ago they would definitely have been in my all time United team too. Should they still be included for their previous success, or does their performances this season mean you would now exclude them?

It has to factor in their overall contribution (which could be good and/or bad).

For a long-serving player like Jimmy Hagan, a bad season (if he had one?) can be dwarfed by everything else that they did. For players like Fleck and Stevens, a bad season carries more weight because it’s a bigger proportion of their time.

They may have got us to the PL but the only current player who would get in the best United team I have seen (started going late 70s) is Jags in his prime.

I can’t get link to work but I’m picking a team from the players I have seen...and for those picking dear old Trevor Hockey, give your heads a wobble. Great beard, good bloke, not so good at football!

.................Kelly..................

...Bash...Maguire...O’Connell...

.Walker...Jags...TC...Whitehouse.

.........Deane...Sharp.........

I was going to pick myself as holding midfielder (could have done a job in this team ;)) but I’ve gone for Jags’ athleticism, covering for Dane and Kyle.
I’m hoping Sabella’s chronic lack of pace will be outweighed by his skill in the Duffy role.
Up front Billy is a pure sympathy choice!
To big Eddie Colqhoun, Tony Agana, Glynn Hodges et al, apologies.

All those years watching United play and they're the only players you have seen 🙂
