Gaffer.

Has it occurred to you that having the players in for training while ALL other PL clubs are respecting the spirit of self isolating is not going help with your wish to get things back on track and pick up where we left off ?

Will other PL clubs knowing that we are not self isolating refuse to take the field with our players knowing close contact is inevitable ??

THIS SHIT IS REAL AND ITS NOT GOING AWAY ANYTIME SOON.

In my opinion the integrity of the season has already gone it won't be a real season any longer or a true reflection of how things would have been without interruption. A "real" season includes end of season fatigue, the same squad being together etc. By the time matches are viable again on health and safety grounds the circumstances of squads and staff may have altered significantly. As to fairness well we aren't dealing with a fair situation at all and that includes all aspects of life right now.

If the season completes however long the hiatus it will merely be for the ease of administrative purposes and not really a case of who was better than who over all. I would agree that seeing matches would be great for the morale of so many people and I'm concerned about the general mental state of folks out there footy related or not.

There's nothing anyone can do now to make this a normal season. We're past that. But you could also take the view that playing a full season means dealing with whatever comes your way better than the competitors.

I see what you're saying but I'm not sure I'd use the term "better than" in the context of our current crisis. Does a team who keeps training and is lucky that the virus doesn't spread around the squad and other staff deserve more success than another one where the virus rips through them or strictly enforces isolation and no training? Sorry not got the link to hand but I was reading this morning about a 28 year old footballer with no underlying health issues who spent 8 days in hospital ventilated because of this thing. We can't just assume "it'll be reyt" for the wellbeing of the lads just because they are young, fit and seemingly will get over it.

Point taken, but this is essentially a very extreme version of what always happens. We were a bad tackle on Coutts away from the play-offs a couple of seasons back imo. Some people will get through this luckier than others, but that's just sport.

But I don't want that to come across as minimising the issue right now. I'm just saying that at some point football will return and, when it does, all the teams will be in the same position they would be whether we start a new season or finish the current one. At least finishing the current one will mean things are decided on the pitch.

Yes, it has to end one of two ways in my opinion. Finish all the matches even if the hiatus is a year long (hopefully not more) or scrap it entirely, forget this season ever existed and start everyone at zero again at whatever point the next season begins. No promotions, no relegations and no European competition. I say no European competition because different countries will be at different stages of the epidemic and out of support and respect wait until we're all good to go again. Finishing all the matches won't give a meaningful table in my opinion but would be better than all the other ideas of finding who stays up goes down etc.

I don't know why it wouldn't be a meaningful table. 29/38 games have been played and depending on how the transfer market is handled it's going to be largely the same squads playing the final matches. I'll grant that it won't be exactly how it would've played out without the disruption but there's no reason to think it would be radically different either.

In the foyer of the academy, 25 new Wattbikes are waiting to be sent out to the players’ homes.

Or, like these people in the 'Comments' section, you haven't read the full article..?

‘But there is a bigger picture here in terms of public health. We put that in perspective and so it won’t wreck our season.

‘When football resumes, I’m positive we will be able to finish the season on a high.’

Personally, I think this season must be brought to a conclusion - however long it takes. If that means scrapping next seasons' Johnstone's Paint Trophy and the EFL Trophy, who cares? Ditto the African Cup of Nations. And, if they need even more time, scrap the 2022 World Cup which was 'awarded' to a totally unsuitable country (Qatar) on a basis of sheer corruption. But Seb Coe wouldn't agree,

SSN has repeatedly stated our lads were back in full normal training. I got it off that.

This changed around lunch time yesterday when it changed to 14 days off at home.

Can anyone tell me how playing matches behind closed doors and/or at neutral venues BEFORE THE COUNTRY COMES OUT OF THIS OFFICIALLY will stop 30,000 Liverpool fans taking to the streets around Anfield when they win the league?
