Surely not? Surely there’s absolutely no competition? (He says knowing full well JOC won’t get picked for the euros

Both these players are at the heart of defences that get ripped apart on a weekly basis (Mings in particular).

I hate the ‘if your face fits’ mentality of the England squad and it’s the biggest contributor to me not giving two hoots about the national team. Never been picked merit - all about who you are and who you play for.

I’d also weigh in that Coady/Mee/Tarkowski suffer from the same ridiculous selection ‘policy’.

WOW Englands standards must have dropped since the last time I watched the tossers.

I’m starting to understand the Liverpool fans disdain for the England team. Still thing the ‘scouse not English’ shite is pretty moronic but I can understand the feeling.

Put it this way, you wouldn’t want sufc to be run and managed in the same way England is.

Bollox, just posted summat similar in other football thread

Its not that simple, JOC is ideal for Blades but Southgate since the World Cup has favoured 4-3-3 formation, completely different system to Wilders's 3-5-2 (5-3-2). That said, JOC deserves at least a try-out in a friendly.

It will be so ridiculous if JOC isn't picked that I'll stop giving a fuck how they do.

Southgate has quickly become just another patsy.
Think you'll find most England manager's are Patsy's they have to tow the media line and pick what the press and the public want, which is players what are not necessarily good enough but play for the so called right club. Sad really that's why they will never win owt.

It’s all about timing really, England haven’t played since November and at that point our players hadn’t had enough time to show their top level quality.

Also the results under Southgate have been very good, so why wouldn’t he stick with players that are performing well for him?

Hopefully the friendlies won’t get cancelled because of coronavirus and some of our players will get an opportunity, but he’s not going to make wholesale changes to the squad. What type of manager would ditch the players on the eve of a tournament when they’ve helped him qualify?

I watched the foxes v villains and noticed something about Ming. When he plays the ball around the back four, under no pressure, he is absolute class. When he has attackers running at, aound and alongside him, he's really poor. So pick Ming if England play San Marino otherwise DON'T PICK HIM HE IS A CHAMPIONSHIP DEFENDER AT BEST....Just saying.

I think this is key. Our boys have proven themselves now so call ups should be talked about seriously.
However I don't have much faith in Southgate. The only evidence I can find for his (Ming's) call up was his 'price tag' when Villa bought him. He'd done absolutely nothing (and still hasn't) on the pitch to warrant it.

Controversial viewpoint probably, just JOC isn’t good enough to play for England.

He might be one day like, but not yet.

Maybe not for the level England want to be at, but England isn't blessed with quality CBs so JOC should be playing when his competition is made up of the likes of Mings.

JOC's best performance for us, and arguably the best single defensive performance of all time ever, was in a back four vs Brentford last season.

Villa have been playing 3 at the back for a number of weeks, only switched back to a back 4 last night. It was an attempt to stop conceding as many.

That's fair enough, but can you name 4 English CB's that are currently better than JOC?

Not necessarily based on current form, but Southgate will probably go for Maguire, Gomez, Stones and Mings/Keane, but the final place is definitely up for grabs.

Christ completely forgot about bombscare Stones, makes it all the more laughable if JOC doesn;t get called up.

Out of the ones you think GS will go for, which do you think is better than JOC?
