Decent workmanline performance overall but not great. We allowed Reading some real chances that a better team would have tucked away. Lack of creativity in midfield shows how important Fleck and Norwood are. Positives include a first goal for Didsy, another for Billy, and we escaped without injuries as far as I can tell. Great we are in the FA Cup quarter finals but play like that and we lose to a more clinical team like Norwich. Overall happy tonight though, we won and move on. We've been below par in the league before and come back with a strong performance, but I hoped we'd struggle less against Reading

We were unplayable for two minutes. 😂

I’m not so sure Fleck and Norwood would’ve improved our performance tonight, let’s not forget they were piss poor in a midfield 3 in the championship and we only improved when Duffy returned to the starting line up.

The flat 3 doesn’t work for us against teams which are going to defend, but in the Premier League teams haven’t come to defend so therefore the flat 3 works.

Horses for courses and Wilder has got to work out which system is most suited to each opposition.

Agree we weren't great, but struggling to recall these chances other than a few pot shots. Their players a more akin to freestyle footballers than professionals. That twat doing the step overs in the corner at 1-1 deserved a right kicking. So glad Billy put the diving, show pony, plastic twats in their place.

I thought we looked tired from half time onwards, I would emphasise fitness this week

We have a system that involved quick triangles and overlaps that seems to have been shelved for some reason?

A lot of crosses into the box from Osborn and Freeman but Reading weren't troubled by them. That said we scored with two headers in the box from crosses but one was in the 2nd minute one in the 104th but we were poor upfront in between. It wss a hard fought battling Cup tie. We won. Not vintage but we'll take it.

reading have improved hugely since last year when they beyond dreadful

we got better once we started playing it on floor as it so frustrating being wasteful possession & why were we lumping it forward to give it back to reading

Let's not forget the game is all about momentum. The ol' we scored too early did breed a bit of complacency. Certainly took any bite out of the game immediately.
After that Reading offered very little until gifted a route back into it with that soft as shite pen!
That was always gonna effect the mentality of both sets of players... Especially just before HT.
It was a frustrating game but our bit of class came through in the end with a well worked goal finished off by Mr Sheff U himself! UTB

We didn’t play well in what was a very poor game but we still edged it - more possession, more attempts, more corners ....and more goals. As always, the result is the most important thing.

As CW said, in a game like last night we take the result over the performance, we ground out the win and I would not think anything negative will be taken into the Norwich game.

That said, there were some really flat individual performances from players that you would have expected would have wanted to give CWAK something to think about. Starting 11 is pretty straight-forward for Saturday, Fleck & Norwood come back in for Freeman and Lunny, (who was dreadful) and Enda replaces Osborn if fit. The only decision to make will be Didzy or McB up front with Billy.

Really disappointed in Moose last night, he appears to have gone right off the boil recently, not sure what Zivkovic has been showing in training but perhaps he deserves a place on the bench?

Thought Retsos looked OK when he came on, a bit nervy but showed some neat touches and put himself about.

Is it just me or what but this team for the last month or two look like they are treading water we just seem to be scraping wins and draws at the moment and when we do look decent we can't put teams to bed. On this form we will not be going much further in the cup unless we get a favourable draw most of what remains are top ten Premier League clubs, same in the league keep playing as we are and the dream of qualifying for Europe will be just that a dream.

I think there is a real case for playing Freeman in the Lundstram role and keeping Berge and Lundstram on the bench.

Freeman played best out of the three.
He’s generally more creative and we will need that against Norwich.

Also sends out the message that if you come in and perform well you can still claim a place.

The only players who put in a claim for a start at the weekend were Luke Freeman and Osborn unfortunately for them Fleck and Stevens have been excellent this season. Moose had a shocker clearly desperate for a goal but on a few occasions took shots when the better option was to pass, his close control was awful too nothing stuck to him all night.

For me, Osborn and Freeman were really good last night in what was a poor game. Mousse was clearly not interested, Baldock had a shocker (even without that soft pen) and Lunny showed no signs of getting back into the starting 11.

Thought Berge was OK in Norwood's place, made some sloppy passes, but generally good and kept things ticking over.

Agree with many on here though, a better team beats us on that performance.

If he was right footed I'd have no hesitation, but as a left footer I don't think it will work with the right hand side overloads that we try to create.

The only criticism I have of Freeman in the games he's played this season in the cup is that he tries to do too much at times. This is probably down to the limited opportunities he's had and wanting to show what he can do. He was extremely positive last night though and looked to go forward whenever he could.

I’m convinced that Freezy can play the no10 role and be the new Duffy. Gawd knows the right hand side of our midfield has been underwhelming for several games now. Perhaps we should revert back to last season’s formation. It could help to give us back the attacking fluency we need In the important, upcoming games.
