We are in for a difficult season

I think we will surprise a few with our playing style. I feel there are at least 3 poorer teams than us; Brighton, Norwich (we are stronger than them IMO after our recruiting), Newcastle, Villa will either make an easy transition or could potentially see them struggling. Palace and Bournemouth could potentially get dragged in too.

The difference in class between the Prem and the Championship is shit-scaringly massive. We are not massive. The Owls are massive. Prem teams are vastly superior. Championship teams are massively superior to League 1. The gulf between League One and the Champ is MASSIVE.

Barnsley 1 Fulham 0
Wigan 3 Cardiff 2
Luton 3 Middlesborough 3

Now I wouldn't have bothered mentioning the Luton result, but I was in the North East at the weekend and a Boro' fan told me we would "come straight back down" and end up bottom of the Prem, because the gulf in class between the Prem and the Champ is massive. Newcastle, Boro and Sunderland are massive clubs.....

BOLLOCKS!!!!!!!!

The one thing I have learnt from Wilders era is that theres no point worrying about what's going to happen. Positive or negative. The thing that drives him is ambition with the fans as his continual motivation. I'm just enjoying the ride.

Oh - and Huddersfield showing how big the gap is also - losing 2-0 at home to Derby

FM’s basically laying down his insurance policy.

He’s predicted doom and gloom. If he’s right he’ll glory in his brave/ unpopular prediction.
If we play well and stay up proving FM is wrong....like he was after the Villa defeat.
Then he’ll joke that’s he loving it being proven wrong........He can’t lose either way.

It’s like some of our supporters who bet big money on us to lose the play-off final.....to soften the blow...so they win either way.

I love being proven wrong :D

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this to you before FM but it’s unlike you to be a tad negative pal. 😉

Funnily enough although it may come across like that, it was more actually that I overrated the strength of the Premier League and expected us to struggle as a result.

Probably spend too much time with fans from the other team in Sheffield who said it was like La Liga... lessons learnt!

None of us really know the way things will pan out with performances or players, it’s all about opinions in the end. Threads like this are fine, they cause debate. The only time I get rattled is when posters overreact so quickly and strongly to a poor result or a player’s performance and then try to convince others that their ‘opinion’ is fact and the the only one worth listening to. As this thread shows just like everybody else they don’t know shit about the future, it’s just their view.

I know mate, we’d all got our reservations at the time deep down, in my case I just hadn’t got the balls to air them. 😉

What a crazy post before a ball was even kicked! Haven't some blades realised we DO have Chris Wilder as manager?

Whilst we have been better than I expected and superb at times, I have been surprised at how average the bottom half of the Premiership teams are.
We may not make Europe but we will be in the top ten on merit.

Agreed. I'm still amazed by how many points we've picked up just because we play for the win. Everyone talks about our incredible away form and I know we're obviously a good side but I have to suspect that a large part of it is because we don't go to Brighton and Palace setting up defensively and hoping for a draw. Maybe it's the pressure on managers that comes with losses, but Bournemouth last week came to the Lane terrified of playing a game of football.

NEWCASTLE eh?

Can't remember if I said how I thought we'd fare on here before the season kicked off. But anyway I thought we would end up finishing between comfortably in mid table or 17th at worst.

I just had that feeling that we wouldn't be in too much danger of going straight back down because of Wilder's and the team's mindset to go out and win matches. Also with what other posters said above about teams such as Bournemouth etc at the lower end of the table setting up not to get beat so I was confident we'd finish higher than those sorts of teams. Another combined factor is that our unique style of play would be unfamiliar to the PL and we were well drilled in it for the preceding 3 years, even if we were to have gotten sussed out at some point (which I don't think we have yet) I had a feeling that if we tailed off a bit in the second half of the season we would've accumulated enough points in the first half to see us stay up in the end.

The fact we've done much better than what I thought we would being around 5th-7th for most of the season is astounding.
