Confess your unpopular opinions regarding SUFC

I'd rather have Leeds, Wednesday and Forest in the Prem with us than Bournemouth, Brighton and Watford.
I’m quite happy for Leeds to be perennial failures in the championship and Wednesday to rot in league one. Whilst the games can be good and exciting, Leeds are scummy coin chucking (based on last visit) wankers and also could overtake us. I want my kids to grow up in a world where United are completely dominant over Wednesday. I’ll let them exist but as a sad shadow of the over inflated opinion that they have of themselves.

Forest can come up though.

Nice to see you’ve come to this conclusion on him after he’s played about 180 mins for us.

(TBF I made the same conclusion after seeing Woodburn for the same amount of time, and there was similar hype about him then as there is about Berge now)

You guessed right. It doesn’t mean anything more than that. It didn’t take a genius to see he was shit in his first few games so it can only go two ways, he continued to be shit or he got better. You guessed the right option.

I saw more positives in 20 minutes of the 2nd half on Saturday from Berge than I saw from Woodburn the whole time he was here.

It's an unpopular opinion for a reason. Also you're assuming that I've only ever seen him in a Blades shirt? I hope he proves me wrong but from what I've seen I can't see what he offers that we don't already have. Can you point out what you've seen?

I certainly wouldn't dismiss what you've written, but Berge has some work to do in catching up with fitness levels of the other players and what is required of other players.

As for what i've seen in three games - plus some youtube stuff.

His weight of pass is exceptional.
He passes balls for people to run on to without breaking stride - sadly some of our players still pass straight to a player - making them check their movement.
He glides past players like i've rarely seen before and seems to use his body to keep them at bay. This is unique for me. He appears to tempt players to take the ball off him but he's too clever. There is a youtube video of him playing for Genk and Norway where he does it time after time.

As for playing now - it's 50:50 for me - hindsight is a wonderful thing, but thought initially Brighton was a game for berge, as they play football normally - sadly they changed style against us and perhaps Lunny would have been the better option.

Some of us think that he is destined for the Norwood position and we're breaking him in. As for Lunny, we are fortunate we've seen him this season. We wanted Berge in the summer - if he had signed him then, we would only have seen lunny used sparingly.

As for now - perhaps he doesn't offer more - but we simply have to get him fitter and quickly, which means game time and perhaps different type of training to the others to help him catch up.

A mate of mine (and fellow Blade) suggested it was like playing with 10 and a half on Saturday, referring to Berge as the half - I couldn't disagree with him. Berge will get better but doubt we'll see the best of him until next season.

A player who’s clearly neat and tidy on the ball with a turn of pace and the ability to drive past players and get forward.

I’ll give him more time before passing too much judgment though. He’s come from a league far less intense than ours and is getting used to playing in a unique system. He’s going to take a bit of time to adapt.

Not sure

Not sure re the fitness - I think he thinks more quickly than the rest of the squad & it’s for them to catch up with that. At the moment they aren’t at his level.

Agreed, we’ll see the best of him next season. And then we’ll sell him.

Berge is going to be another Leon Britton.

That got your attention. Not really.

But this team isn't currently suited to him and there's a chance it will stay that way.

Need to see him with our best strikers McGoldrick and Mousset on the pitch first though - they'll help him.

Fulwood Blade that's a good assessment. I thought we were buying a better version of Coutts, would that be right, wrong, naive or just rubbish ?

If we didn’t get a flukey result away at Elland Rd last season, we wouldn’t be where we are today...they should have put us to bed that day.
Not saying it’s a bad thing (probably makes it funnier if anything) but I don’t think we’d have come back from that blow and points gap.

I had the pleasure of seeing TC - virtually all his SUFC career - Berge has all the attributes needed to be another TC - he just needs time to settle, pick up the pace of the Premier league and gain confidence with his team mates. I am sure they will give him the ball more as time goes on.

We need to get him fit - and that means to Premier League standard and i can see us being even more of a possession team. We need to involve him more in games.

One thing I will throw in the mix, might get ridiculed but it's more of a devils advocate statement really - all the top clubs play a variation of 4 at the back - none more so than Liverpool and I just wonder whether CWAK have the intention, perhaps over the next year to eighteen months to move to 4 at the back (during a game or even at the start) and 4/5 in midfield, but still wanting Baldock and Stevens to push on (just like Liverpool do) with lets say Berge AND Norwood both pulling the strings. 352 will only get us so far - it's just a thought to throw into the mix. We go to 4 now when chasing games or if we're struggling - big clubs do it all the time - perhaps we need that option and Berge may give it to us.
