It's an unpopular opinion for a reason. Also you're assuming that I've only ever seen him in a Blades shirt? I hope he proves me wrong but from what I've seen I can't see what he offers that we don't already have. Can you point out what you've seen?
I certainly wouldn't dismiss what you've written, but Berge has some work to do in catching up with fitness levels of the other players and what is required of other players.
As for what i've seen in three games - plus some youtube stuff.
His weight of pass is exceptional.
He passes balls for people to run on to without breaking stride - sadly some of our players still pass straight to a player - making them check their movement.
He glides past players like i've rarely seen before and seems to use his body to keep them at bay. This is unique for me. He appears to tempt players to take the ball off him but he's too clever. There is a youtube video of him playing for Genk and Norway where he does it time after time.
As for playing now - it's 50:50 for me - hindsight is a wonderful thing, but thought initially Brighton was a game for berge, as they play football normally - sadly they changed style against us and perhaps Lunny would have been the better option.
Some of us think that he is destined for the Norwood position and we're breaking him in. As for Lunny, we are fortunate we've seen him this season. We wanted Berge in the summer - if he had signed him then, we would only have seen lunny used sparingly.
As for now - perhaps he doesn't offer more - but we simply have to get him fitter and quickly, which means game time and perhaps different type of training to the others to help him catch up.
A mate of mine (and fellow Blade) suggested it was like playing with 10 and a half on Saturday, referring to Berge as the half - I couldn't disagree with him. Berge will get better but doubt we'll see the best of him until next season.
