For those of you old enough to reminder, the name Archie Gemmill will bring back memories of a truly great Scottish midfield player.

Not tall, but a real powerhouse of a player, who could run, tackle and drive his team forward relentlessly and score some great goals as well. Look at this little beauty!



Scotland haven’t had a player of his calibre for some decades. But I think they may have one now?

Later on, I saw Gordon Strachan play at the Lane. Whatever you may think of that bloke as a manager he was one hell of a fine player. Brilliant!

i have fond memories of those times though because I was working in Trinidad and we met several Scottish lads arriving on the island as late as February the following year after they had trekked their way back from Argentina, still in the same clothes (kilts) they’d set off in eight or nine months previously.
Trinidad was cheapest place to fly back to the UK on BWIA “Bee-Wee” airlines with the last of their cash.

The naivety of the fans in planning their journeys, and the team hotel was basically a building site. After their disappointing first two games the fans turned on them and were giving them V-signs, which is an insult of its time.
