Any Italian football buffs out there know just how accurate a comparison this is?
I keep seeing the Blades being compared to Atalanta in formation, system and approach.
Should I adopt them as my Italian team...their colours suck a bit, but it does sound like their achievements are admirable.

Lot of similarities - especially with our Championship style.

Settled back 3 system with the players all knowing their roles perfectly. A well oiled machine of a team.
Patient, measured build up play to pin the opponents back in their own area.
Punching above their weight financially.
Manager who's a complete legend there.
Alejandro Gomez = elite Mark Duffy.
Well considered recruitment.

They're certainly more cavalier than we are now but there are a lot of fundamental similarities.

They've got a serious chance of going far in the CL as well.

Hope we play a friendly against them in the summer.

Thanks man...the comparison kept coming up but I’ve been too lazy to look into it myself, so appreciate that.
Only really seen them fleetingly on Champs League highlights but they certainly sound like a team to afford more time and attention to.
Interesting that you say they are more cavalier - this is something I hope we can add back into our game as we consolidate our position in the Prem and continue to evolve the squad by adding more quality when the right opportunities are identified and available.
I’m sure Wilder will look to do this as he did moving into our 2nd Championship season...we could have quite easily stuck with a rather pedestrian midfield including players like L Evans and Lundstram (version 1), and settled for being a mid-ranking Champ side. Us fans probably wouldn’t have grumbled too much, but Wilder decided to twist, brought in Norwood and moved us to the next level. I think the Berge signing is the first indication that we’re looking to do this again.
Wilder’s ambition appears to show no limit and I’m certain he’ll now be focused on a European spot

The European experts have said Atalanta are very un Italian.

Instead of being defensive and conservative so revered in Italian football they’ve bucked the trend
because they throw men forward....press high up the pitch trying to win the ball back and you often see their defenders taking it in turns joining the attack.

Fuck Atalanta. Their US namesakes have the worlds biggest airport and held the olympic games. Bit like us not having won the Rumelows cup.

To develop this formation and style of playing in order to survive the rigors of the league we are in now, is testament to CWAK forward planning.
To adapt it so successfully in our first season back, on the budget available, is just phenomenal.
Credit to the management and players for such a prolific adaptation.
More to come as Wilder thinks ahead already, demonstrated by the JTW. Hope the players can keep up with the manager. 🙈

I go and see them often, and spend a fair amount of time in Bergamo.

They are amazing to watch the similarities are they play with 3 at the back they rely heavily on a gifted No10 Papu Gomez and the invention and trickery of Josip Ilicic..

Feel like the comparisons maybe a little lazy

  • Unfancied/unfashionable (tides turning)
  • low wages
  • The perceived notion is it's a squad made up of Wraiths and strays but in reality it's been assembled with meticulous attention to detail.
  • 3 at the back

The back 3 don't push on anywhere near as much as ours and they employ a more advanced deliberate No10

squad made up of wraiths?!? not sure even nazgul would displace egan in defence.

probably you meant waif.

Does anybody like atalanta to getafi?

The football is very different.....Getafe are a tough, ultra physical, very organised long ball team....the Wimbledon of the Spanish league.
It was a really interesting contrast of styles in the Europa cup this week.....Getafe (small club on the outskirts of Madrid) v Ajax.

This match was billed as “beauty and the beast“.
The beast (Getafe) gained a famous 2-0 win and are now probably favourites to progress to the next round.
