I can't see us ever having gotten to the position that we'd have taken a chance on Wilder, unless we'd sunk to the lows that we did....!!

And I know, if I was a West Ham fan, and could be guaranteed to be in the same position as the Blades, with an inspiring fan of a manager, keeping their old ground....I'd have taken relegation, and years in the wilderness, over what they've ended up with!!

Though about this as I was going to bed. Every Tevez, Hammond, Sammon, Adkins, Weir, Robson etc were all worth it because we got Wilder. How many teams actually "progress" nowadays? Most stay around the same place year after year, or soon drop back down to where they were, with Wilder we can actually become an established top 10 prem team, and who knows? Maybe even something more.

if we had stayed up Warnock would have gone, Jags would have gone, Robson would have been appointed and we would have gone down the following season.

Also, there has always been an unchallenged assumption that, had West Ham been properly punished, that we would have been the beneficiaries. My view is that the bottom 3 would have gone down plus West Ham, with 4 teams promoted.

The Tevez saga was all about corruption in English football and the total incompetence of the powers in charge. They themselves were either corrupt or out of their depth. There was noone in overall charge who was impartial or capable and noone had any serious experience of dealing with difficult and contentious situations. Scudamore was a joke. He was weak and pathetic - almost running scared as though caught in the headlights and took a very easy but inequitable way out.

If we had stayed up we would not have looked for a really good manager. There were some great ones around at the time. Didier Deschamps for one. Although no doubt people will say I'm having a lff as he would never have come to the Lane. Of course he wouldn't, as McCabe would not have tried to raise the bar high enough.

McCabe would have behaved as he always did - not doing enough and wasting so many opportunities. I find the appointment of Robson unforgivable.

Should Warnock have gone with Robson taking his place we would no doubt have gone down the following season as McCabe would not have been willing to continue funding Robson's spending spree.

Didn't West Ham go down the following season anyway? They came back up straight-away. What was the reason we didn't?

we didnt go down to league one till 2011 and got to play offs in the intervening seasons so cant really say it was 2007 that started our decline to league one

In many ways relegation was a blessing under Warnock we played a system "not to lose" the team and performance at Villa at seasons end was a travesty losing 3-0. We have had a rocky road in between but is has given us CWAK and here we are, we've endured Robson, Adams, Adkins, Clough and Blackwell and Weir (bet I've forgot someone lol).

I think after that monsoon of mediocrity we're entitled to a little sunny side football and success I think in 07 the PL missed a trick we went down by one goal. And in Wigan game we hit post and missed a pen a fairer result would have been relegate normal 3 but also relegate Wet Spam and promote 4 as a one off.

Blade too, long you're right 07 didn't set the rot in we had a touch-paper and McCabe and his cronies lit it, with awful manager appointments and we just became worse than our sum of all parts.

I think had we got promoted at that time under Wilson even as a Championship club we would have eventually snapped up Wilder. McCabe would still have been struggling to find a buyer for the club, Wilson would eventually go and we would be looking for another manager.

I think had we stayed in the Premier League last time out then we would have gone through the usual manager merry go round. McCabe would have probably sold the club to some random foreign owner and we would have ended up with Marco Silva as manager.

I've enjoyed the last few seasons more because we were shit for 6 seasons in league one. I actually appreciate the club and football more now than ever before.

Finished 17th in 09/10 & went down in 20th in 10/11.
VERY lucky to return via the playoffs, the following season. Apart from 15/16, every year has been utter shit, with awful players, performances & results.
Apart being in different divisions all these years, our fortunes have been quite similar.
Well, apart from losing our spiritual home of 112 years.
