Player Suggestion John Egan

Everton paid Burnley 30million for Keane and he's nowhere near Egan's quality.

Wilder's not the only person to have said that, but it's a fact that cannot be denied. The wages on offer will make his current wage slip shrink in comparison, so consider, what would you do if offered a substantial increase...

He's got to take into account that he'd be the fittest one at any new club he moved to as well as having the biggest heart so he'd have 10 tossers to carry every week.

Is that really worth any amount of money?

£60m plus Holgate and Richarlison should do it. 👍
Or £50m and neither of them!;)
Not a fan of either to be honest.
I did like Holgate but I've watched him a few times this season and he's been hopeless.

Agree with your sentiments GB, but if another club offer something that tweaks Wilder's curiosity - who knows, CW may have his eye on another defender that can be had for a 'paltry' 15 million - and the wages are in excess of 3 times what Egan currently gets, what would you or I do - can't use exclamation, question marks or other characters, sorry. Agree, JE is a wonderful player, and alongside JOC they make a huge obstacle for any forward to get change out of. In my book this is the best defence we've had in the 50 years that I've been watching the Blades, and the reason why we're where we are right now.

I’m sure we suffer from altitude sickness...5th place at Christmas and we start to make up shit about selling our best players.
Back in the day, it was nosebleeds

There’s no way that Ancelotti has walked into Goodison and demanded they splash the cash on John Egan, who has played half a season of Premier League football. They will be aiming a lot higher.

Get with the program George, today's modern supporter doesn't have altitude sickness, neither do they get nosebleeds......the modern affliction is the footballing equivalent of premature ejaculation. Fans shoot their load way to soon, they can't seem to help themselves, the tip of their bell-end becomes so sensitive to even the slightest suggestion of a prized player being sold they cannot contain their concern and off they go...spraying their jizz chaotically, no cock sat-nav to hand, just a scatter gun approach without a need for facts.

I'd have said JOC is only as good as Egan, difficult to differentiate.

They're both the dogs bollocks.

Thanks Alf, I suppose being an old fart has its plus points - by the way, compliments of the season, mate..👍

Same to you George, us old guys have so much to impart, if only 'they'd' listen ;)

Football wise, as long as we retain Wilder's services we'll be fine. Keeping our best eleven - maybe not Henderson - together is key to going forward, whether that's possible we'll have to see.

On a personal note, I still have ongoing health issues, mostly to do with my legs, so who knows what the future holds - it's worth mentioning that my keyboard's fucked, so certain characters, such as question marks, cannot be included - but I manage to keep my chin up in spite of restricted this and that.

Love the fact that we're the fifth best team in the country, long overdue and deserved say I. Good 2020 to you and yours mate, Up The Mighty Blades

I wouldn't begrudge any of our legendary journeymen filling their boots at the back end of their careers for £150k pw week contracts. So, strike while they are hot and the big six teams are desperate. But they are all on the cusp of making something really special happen in their careers that may never come their way again, so tough decisions lay ahead for the band of brothers..

I know we're all one big happy family but if Egan could double his wages he'd want to go for a better paid job.

It would then be for the club to decide if the offer is satisfactory.

As much as I love the guy, Wilder and Knill could find a replacement without too much fuss.

Afraid I disagree KC - IMHO Egan is probably the most crucial part of the Utd team. His position flanked by JOC and Basham is perfect for him.

He won't look anywhere near as good covering for all Yerry Mina's errors no matter how much he's being paid.

Fair comment MotS.

I think Egan is a great natural defender but looked a bit shaky and unsure when he first arrived and now his positioning and timing has been coached to perfection. I think our coaching staff could make another of him as long as the player can do the basics well.
I agree he wouldn't look as good in another team but none of our players would. It would be sad to see him get as much shit as Keane does - would probably be a similar situation.

Exactly, I can't believe what Iam reading on here must be only message board with fans talking about flogging our player's fucking hell we're not in league1 now!!

When was the last team we sold a proper first team player because we didn't really have a choice? Seems like a long time since we were behaving like a selling club.

Brooks is an obvious shout, though he wasn't exactly starting every game and the money felt big. After that ? I remember being gutted when Brighton had our pants down for Murphy, but that is fucking ages ago now.

Am I just having a mental block?

Anyway, in all probability we've already got a second season of PL dosh locked up, so I doubt we'll be flogging anyone key anytime soon.

Micheal Keane was 27m egans better minium 40 with besic and dcl in exchange and Holgate

I know it sounds ridiculous when you start thinking of minimum values of £50m plus for Egan, but then you have to put it into context with others.

Dunk values at £45m, Keane at Everton at £30m, and the biggest one of the lot, Maguire moving for £80m plus. Now can anyone seriously say that they think Maguire is worth that? He only moved for that amount as Man Utd were desperate for a non nonsence commanding centre half as they are as rare as rocking horse shit these days as football as changed.

On that basis, United would need to be sectioned, if they sold Egan for anything less than £50m plus, imo. He still only 27 as well, and could conceivably be the fulcrum at the back for United for the next 7 or 8 years.

Even better idea. Keep him (even if there is more to it than just rumours). He would be a massive part in us staying up and each season in the PL is worth another £100m to the club. When all that is considered, Egan should only go for a really silly amount provided he stays in form and is well under contract.

How much do you think he is worth then? If Brighton value Dunk at £45m+ Egan is worth way more
How much I think he is worth or any other Blade for that matter is irrelevant really. One thing is for sure, if it is true that Everton are to show interest in Egan it is because they think they can get a good defender at a relative cheap price. So on the flip side I ask you this, what do you think Everton would initially offer? My guess around 20mil. Also what Brighton allegedly value Dunk at is just as irrelevant.

Dunk has been playing in prem for a few seasons now and even made the England squad so his value will be higher than Egans.
Though we think Egan is better dont we ?

It is likely that we will have clubs trying to buy our better players. We don’t really want to lose any. It’s not just the money it’s finding a replacement of the same quality. CW has been great at finding players to upgrade the squad but getting another Egan wouldn’t be easy And there’s no saying that CW has anyone lined up or could pluck one out of L1 or the Championship or abroad.
there is a model however. Leicester seem to keep having players poached e.g. Maguire but not only do they get max money but then they replace him with a player at least as good if not better (according to my mate who is a Leicester fan). The current Leicester team seems to be even better than the one that one the title. They have constantly up graded their squad in many cases selling at high prices and replacing with a cheaper but better player. May be we can do The same.
