Having watched most if their games Liverpool employ the long ball more than most. Difference is pundits call it brilliant accurate passing.

After-match analysis by Paul Merson on Sky Sports, he said that we seem to stop other teams playing their normal game (heard that before somewhere), but after watching us a few times, he couldn't work out how we did it. So much for being found out eh? He did also lavish a fair bit of praise.

As others have said, it’s about shifting tactics to suit the game on the day. The fact that we can do that speaks volumes for how well coached this squad is. We can pass it around as well as anyone but teams coming at us with a high tempo high press can be caught out by us playing over the midfield area. Leicester are brilliant at it and that’s why Vardy is scoring nearly every game.

I just thought that Brighton played a high press second half and put extra bodies up top in order to turn the game into try and turn our centre backs and cut out the midfield ,tactically we adjusted yo that by playing our usual flat 3 covering the back 5 and countering in the huge holes left by Brighton and if wed won by 3 clear goals no one could argue
The goal itself wasnt symptomatic or representative of how wed played first half and wolves fans are cunts

In amongst all of the plaudits that United have been receiving this season, it has been quite revealing to see which fans have been rather more sour and chippy.

It is clear, and Roy's 'view froms' provides plenty of evidence of this, that fans of the truly 'big' established clubs have had almost total praise and admiration for what Wilder and the players are achieving.

In contrast, any negative commentary (such as it is, because there hasn't been much) has emanated from fans of clubs who want to be 'the story' this season or who were once 'the story' but now fear that they no longer are. Unlike, supporters of the likes of Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs etc, the fans of those less established clubs display their insecurities by railing against the media's focus on United.

Thus, we see the 'stick your heads in the sand' attitude of Norwich and, to a lesser extent, Villa fans, who have found that they have been completely over-shadowed by the club that came up with them; Newcastle fans who pine for the days 25 years past, when they were the freshest thing on the menu rather than being dour survival artists; and Wolves who have found that, a mere 12 months on, media coverage of the Premier League moves quickly on to the next 'big thing' and that Europa League football, as well as they are doing, doesn't really hold the attention for the football world at large.

Next season, the chances are that if the Dirties don't fall apart again (although they seem to have just started to do so again just as they did exactly 12 months ago), they and Bielsa will be 'the story'.

I'm reasonably confident that, unlike these sensitive souls at the likes of Wolves, the majority of Blades are realistic and secure enough not to get too upset if the focus shifts away from us, albeit Look North and Calendar will be a real test...

You’ve hit the nail right on the head. Fans of the less successful teams are inherently insecure and crave the praise of others. I’ve been effected by it a couple of times this season when I didn’t think pundits were giving us the credit we deserved. Just human nature I guess.

Well I watched it with two eyes it was a professional performance not awful at all
Not free flowing true but not awful

I also opted for both eyes for the game and i think it was our worst possesion based game of the season. We struggled to pass it out and were most effective smashing it onto didzy and mcburnies head.

It was effective but nothing like how we usually play.

Wolves were very direct against us for their only decent spell of the game ( the last quarter ) they just kept lofting high hanging diagonals in for Jimenez or feeding traore who for someone built like Jonah lomu doesn't half go down easily

The sad fact is that far too many of our fans actually want us to hoof it. It’s all they know. It’s all they understand. They are bewildered and bemused by proper football, played the right way. They are hugely discomforted by the way we play and yearn for the grotesque anti-football they know so well. They can’t compute a United team outplaying the opposition with sublime pass and move football. They pine to be the upanatem underdogs.

Happily Tufty has them very much in retreat but they’ll never give up.

We did indeed. Just as surely as Tufty made the ‘Brian Deane’ comment, clearly irritated by those who continue to see us as a hoof it team and conspicuously distancing himself from the Bassett way. Odd how nobody but me has mentioned it. The hoofers don’t like it up ‘em or their hero.

It doesn’t amaze me in the slightest. We have a large percentage of Bassett-boy hoofers who yearn for grotesque anti-football. They claim it doesn’t matter how you play as long as you win, entirely missing the point that it’s cause and effect.

We have the best football team we’ve ever had, playing proper football, the right way. As Tufty said recently [the hoofers put their hands over their ears and pretended it wasn’t said but they heard it and hated it] “we don’t just bash it into the channels for Brian Deane to chase”. The rest of the world left them behind decades ago but they still walk the streets of S2.

Different era when DB was having to manage on a shoestring, do you ever take that into account ? In the 50 odd years I have supported the Blades we have had few stand out moments of pure unbridled joy, John Harris, Neil Warnock, Cloughie, Wilder obviously have provided them, DB also, so he will always be remembered fondly by me for his time at the Lane.

Yes. He was the right man at the right time. That was a very long time ago. The problem is he still clung to the same philosophy long after it had become discredited and outdated. He couldn’t cope once he lost (not his fault) Brian Deane. His “football” from then on was dire and awful to watch.

Sadly his legacy lingers on. His spirit still burns bright amongst the single-celled gerritinearly brigade.

Almost a third of our passing was long passes!

This all proves that we lumped it long a lot, we were wasteful in possession, we couldnt string 2/3 passes together and we spent the majority of the game chasing the ball.

Take your heavily tinted red and white glasses off next time. There's the facts for you to see. Like i said originally it was effective, but far from our best possession based performance, very defensive and wasteful, not how we usually play.

CW said we werent at our best and were wasteful, their fans compared us to wimbeldon, wolves fans done the same, stats back it up. I watched the game and as said previously we were very effective and solid defensively but our possession based game was a million miles of how we have been at times this season.

Im not knocking the team, more fans like yourself who can't see whats in front of them. Your views directly contradict CWs. CW does not do bullshit nor does he dress up poor displays!

At times we play beautiful possession based football, yesterday was not one of those days. We have the ability to switch our styles to suit the opposition. Yesterday was long ball, defensive display in which hendo got an assist. Yesterday i would consider our plan B game style.

I understand hoof comments if people had only seen yest performance and thought 'thats how they always play'. We have played a lot better than that.

WHAT !!!! "Lump and Run" watch some of our passes & movement, particularly early on. Did your own eyes choose to ignore that. The 2nd half tactics mainly were to manage & see the game through ie well organised defensive play but lump & run is not the correct interpretation of this match
