Bloody hell there's some hard buggers on here 😂

May I be the first to say ‘fuck him’?

Quite clearly badmouthed Chris to his dad, Mrs and family hence his big fat fucking father giving it the big en on Facebook groups comparing Wilder to the Third Reich.
And if you’re letting them dictate your career you want your bumps feeling. Bet he feels a right cunt now.
Weird family that I hope we can be rid of by January 30th.

Thanks for everything Mark, but cya.
So your family run everything past you before they say/post anything do they ?

Chris Wilder is obviously in a position to do what many many other team managers in amateur football are most often not able to do - keep his ears and eyes closely on dressing room tittle tattle and sniff/ship out the dissenting voice before it's able to poison the whole squad.

Does there seem to be issues with authority though? What exactly makes you think that?

I don't have my own opinion, and that's really my point: I don't know the lad, I've never seen him train, I haven't spoken to Wilder about him, so I'm not going to make any statements about his character.

I know hes had behavioural issues in the past - my point is that there's no evidence that those same issues persist. In fact, him still being here is pretty good evidence that there aren't any behavioral issues, as Wilder doesn't seem the type to simply put up with that kind of thing.

It's entirely possible that he was signed based on his potential, and it simply hasn't worked out. It could be the standard set by our current midfield, it could be a fitness issue, could be stylistic.
I completely understand that a series of incidents or behavioural patterns would help inform an opinion, and if you are of the opinion that Ravel has an attitude problem, it's an point of view you're more than welcome to hold.
I'm a big believer in peoples ability to change however, especially those who made mistakes at a relatively young age, or come from tough backgrounds, such as Ravel. I'm the same age as Ravel, and despite indiscretions and mistakes in my past, I'd like to think that if you met me, you would see that I'm a good person. Hopefully the same can be said about Ravel.

You can draw conclusions from Wilder not playing him or signing a new contract if you wish, but I won't. After all, someone such as Richard Stearman is in the same boat, yet I have no reason to doubt his character.

And you may be right that Ravel hasn't impressed Wilder, though it's certainly not a fact. What is a fact is that he earned his contract through a combination of a successful trial and glowing references from his former coaches in Sweden - neither of which support the theory that he is misbehaving.

It's not hard evidence as such, but Billy Sharp did jokingly point out in a Summer interview that Ravel was already picking up the most squad fines for being late to training etc. & that his attitude to those fines was to say that he "wasn't bothered."

It was a throwaway comment, not intended to do any damage, but it was also quite revealing.

Some of his postings on social media have also been a little undesirable & seemed to be publicly criticising management for his lack of opportunities.

I'm not saying any of this is necessarily definitive proof that he's a bad egg etc., but it does support the arguments that he has attitude problems.

To me he looks a very talented boy, but one that doesn't know how to be an elite professional footballer. When he has space & time on the ball, no doubt he can look impressive. But ask him to play to a system, hold shape, work hard off the ball... it's all lacking.

I can see the logic behind the signing. It hasn't worked out. I think we'll pay him up in January & move him on.

There's no implication.....all anyone has to do is follow the dots, bags of talent apparently, but for whatever reasons there seems to be issues with authority, and if not then there are issues with something that has prevented Ravel from progressing into a genuinely good, possibly great, player. No doubt you seem to have your own opinion, but Wilder took a chance on a player that many seasoned managers have done before. Each time the same behaviour causes a rethink and Ravel is allowed to seek employment elsewhere........hope that helps.
Didn't one of the players say rav was the most fined player out of the squad?
Not good if your trying to break into the first team

It would seem that Duffy felt he deserved to be higher up the pecking order in the squad than CW had placed him. Duffy went away to prove the manager wrong. The squads' performance (without Duffy) and Duffy's experience at Stoke has proved overwhelmingly that CW was right.

I am sure if CW felt that Duffy could strengthen the squad in depth and Duffy was humble enough to accept that he has been proved wrong. he may come back. The important thing would be that he came back with the right attitude and doesn't rock what is a very happy and tight 'boat'.

I was unaware about the fines and lateness, if that is the case, it's certainly not impressive and can understand the concern.

As for the social media malarkey, the few examples I've seen reposted on here are very ambiguous. Sounds like cryptic ramblings, rather than direct criticism of management- I personally wouldn't read anything into it.

Thanks for the memories and your role in getting us here Mark.

So long.

Another Duffy I had forgotten all about until I heard her on the radio today

View attachment 66827
And her story has many similarities to our Duffy. After she had her bit of fame she chose to dump the people who gave her the success and decided she knew better, possibly not the wisest move. Not heard much from her recently.

Shame it all came to this, wouldn't begrudge him coming back if Wilder wanted him, but doesn't seem likely. He played his hand and came up short, Wilder made the right move to get rid based on the circumstances.

If Duffy can't get in the current Stoke line up, it suggests that his skills and attitude are less than exemplary, or the manager doesn't see him fitting in.
If that is the case, why would Wilder take him back to a place where standards are obviously much higher?
Duffy is now too old to press the reset button on his Blades career, especially when you compare his attitude to the likes of Basham and McGoldrick.
If no other club is interested in him, why would he be welcomed back to the Lane?

I recall Wilder making positive comments about Morrison not too long ago, suggesting he was close to being on the bench, but not quite ready yet.

Stoke City reserves.😄

What a fucked up thing.
Would love to see him return but its not going to happen.
If for no other reason his fitness level.
I know he knows the system but no way can he keep speed without a good half dozen matches under his belt.

It's over. :(

The fact that you're a good person isn't the question.

A poster on another thread mentioned that Ravel is reported to be the most fined player in the squad. If it's true, and I say if, then it only adds weight to an existing problem, one that appears to have followed him throughout his footballing life. If there are other issues that we're not familiar with then I hope these are laid to rest sooner rather than later.

Ravel hasn't appeared for the first team so far this season. Given that we're a third of the way into this season perhaps you have an explanation for the non-appearance of a player who undoubtedly has a gift, but for some still unknown reason we're still none the wiser as to the lack of progress of this player. Like any professional club, I'm sure that from the manager down as much help as possible is offered to any player with issues. But there's a finite amount of time that can be offered regarding this type of help, therapy, or mentoring. After all, the primary business of this club is football, not overly long sessions of analysis intended to eventually snuff out the demon inherent in someone's personality.

Jeez he doesn’t get forgotten on this forum!

I’ve seriously no feelings towards the lad at all nowadays.
I agree Swiss, I know he gave us some magic moments and we’ll never forget “that” goal but there is no way he could be part of the squad now. Please, please let it go - he’s history.

Makes me sad to see how our fans have so little respect for one of the greatest players we’ve seen in decades.

Duffy has been a lower league journeyman and made less money than any of our players. He’s also the wrong age with little chance to make enough money from the game to secure his future.

His agent has probably advised him to strike whilst the iron was hot. He was our only creative outlet last season so probably felt he had some negotiating power. Fortunately McGoldrick has shown that he can also do a kind of Duffy role.

If I ever saw Mark Duffy I’d buy him a drink and thank him. You can bet if Wilder loses a few or joins a bigger club some of our fans will be slagging off Wilder.
Greatest players in decades?.........he was a talented sub or 60 minute player as we progressed from the lower leagues. Didzy is light years better. Now I admit that I don’t know what parameters you apply to granting legendary status but I think some are getting somewhat carried away and that does a disservice to the true legends of our club

For the first three years of Wilder's time in charge, it was obvious that Duffy was our most important player in terms of us clicking as a threat using the 3-4-1-2. Regardless of shithouse behaviour in the pre-season from him and his family, I will be forever grateful to Duff for the bounce killer goal, but mainly for being the figurehead for what was a revolutionary change in the way we play. Thanks Duff, you and the fam may ultimately have jumped the shark, but I'll never hear your name and not smile when remembering your time pulling the strings from number 10. An absolute joy!

Respect is a two way street.

I hope he doesn't come back for the sole reason that the bloke who sits about 10 rows behind me in the Westfield loves him and shouts "come on Dufffaaaaayyyy" in the most annoying posh accent about 50 times per half......he's also got the loudest clap known to man.

I was unaware about the lateness and fines, I'm assuming you were to, as it's only just come up. If this is true, then I will definitely concede that it does the lad no favours, and would be a signal that he at least has some discipline issues.

As for him being talented, yet unable to break into the squad; I dont think that's conformation of any behavioral issues. It could be that he's lacking fitness, it could be that his style doesn't suit our system, it could be that he was brought in to play the no 10 role which has become redundant. There could be a host of reasons, other than attitude why he's not playing.

I guess we will have a more accurate idea of what Wilder thinks of him in January, in the FA cup game. I dont think Wilder would play him if his attitude was in doubt, so if he starts against Flyde, it would indicate that there's still hope for the lad. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm staggered at the number of people who would have him back at the club and/or think he's still good & fit enough.

He's 34, has been unable to play 90 mins for a couple of seasons, plays in a position that doesn't feature in Utd's formation, he'd behind at least one other player in the pecking order who himself is unable to get more than a few mins game time, is now unable to get into Stoke's matchday squad and they're making noises about curtailing his season long loan.

Tbh I have little to no sympathy for the player who passed up his only chance to play Prem football by demanding more money. His contribution during the 16/17 and 17/18 season was fantastic but the club has moved on and so should he by tasking his agent with finding him another club, most likely in L1.

If Duffy can't get in the current Stoke line up, it suggests that his skills and attitude are less than exemplary, or the manager doesn't see him fitting in.

He’s already on his second manager there, the one that signed him and the one that just inherited him.

Neither of them have given any game time and there’s discussions on message boards about who he is, what position he plays and whether he’s worth giving him a go.

They let a youngster, Verlinden, go on loan to Bolton and that went down really badly and I doubt Duffy departing would cause any kind of ripple.

Duffy ................. who?

Seriously thanks for the memories but Duffy had one chance of ever playing in the Premier League but for his own reason chose to whine for a pay rise with threats of other club being interested. Seems like Wilder called his bluff and other clubs are not interested after all, Duffy has only himself to blame mind you his gobby family didn't help. As it stands he wouldn't get close to our bench never mind anything else. League one or two are beckoning if he wants to keep playing for a few more years. I would imaging he has time on his hands to regret ever banging on Chris Wilder's door.

I agreed about the idea of giving him a chance.
But, it can't happen. As has been pointed out, our squad number is at max. If CW is bringing in 2 or 3 in January, he already needs to release the same, to get the new ones in.
I don't think there's a way back here for Duff.
