Apparently now out of work.
Now, if we wanted to shift a few more season tickets...

Would love to see him in charge at the Lane. Can't see it happening though.

I doubt we'd get him, probably cost too much etc.
But at what point does the cost of doing nothing and allowing the culture and foundations of the club to wither away exceed that?

Other than O'driscoll he's the only manager that i'd think could do a job for us....

Then again he failed at Celtic, so i'd have my doubts now

If he's as true to his vision of playing the right way as he has come across at West Brom and Celtic I'd have him like a shot.

His CV is a bit knackered at the moment - he needs to go to a club and do what he did at West Brom all over again.

I can hardly think he's attractive for any Premier League club that knows they are going to be in a relegation scrap (West Brom went down with barely a whimper but plenty of plaudits for their style and approach) and he's just taken Celtic from a neck and neck race for the title to 10 points off the pace - ruling out the 'push for Europe' crowd in the Prem. West Ham are a likely option - they'll want to 'football' their way out of trouble (if cheating isn't available).

Whether we'd be an attractive option is another matter - we've got to get rid of Blackwell first. We also show increasing signs of being potless. That said, we've got a 15+ goal a season striker and an international striker on the books already and the rest of the squad are clearing out in the summer.

My only worry is that we'd expect instant results and get frustrated whilst we floated about in mid-table occasionally being powder-puff until we got some quality together. He's not the most savvy in the press either.

He was my "It'll never happen but..." wish. Go on United, make it come true.

Nah I am unsure about him Id opt for someone else I think.

Plus we couldnt afford him anyway.

From one of Europe's most famous clubs with Champions League pretentions, to a financially retrenching Championship club?

Dreamsville I'm afraid.

Hmm. Doesn't really say much though does it?

If we were in the SPL we would have Champions League pretentions.

Fresh from a relegation held widely as being down to his high-minded principles?

Maybe, but maybe not as much as you think JD.

The thing with those high-minded principles is that they become ingrained.
Which is why West Brom are walking back to the Prem with ease, playing much the same way.

I had a season watching his Hibs team.
Some of the best football I have ever had the pleasure to watch and he can do it on a low budget.
Go get that man Mr McCabe while there is a chance

He managed to get a team a very distant second in a very shitty two team league.
Wonderful.

After Strachan was hounded out as well. I always thought that Celtic was a stretch too far for him, but as has been said, he did very well with Hibs. The more I think about it, he could do well for us.

Let's face it, with the malaise which is permeating the club as a whole, changes are needed, and I wouldn't see the appointment of Mowbray as a negative one.

Celtic have been my Scottish club since I was about 7 and I don't want him anywhere near my main club. No, no and no again!

How many clubs can you name, including in the Premier League, that are not financially retrenching?

Dave Bassett failed at Watford prior to joining the Blades

Is he still the only manager to have managed two relegated sides from the same division, in the same season?

United were also relegated when he took over the late, great Peter Cook's 'Fantasy Football' side when Baddiel and Skinner had their first season of that in the 1993/4 season.

Whilst Bassett wasn't 'relegated', he wasn't invited for the following season.

He still did well until he left Barnsley.

He did well at Palace and left then in a better state than he found them, took Forest to a promotion and then took Barnsley to a play-off final.

After he took Forest up, i wrote to him and recieved a nice letter back thanking me for my kind words and telling me he still had a big soft spot for Sheffield United.

I met him at work a few years back, and usually meeting your heroes is a disappointment, but i really enjoyed talking to him to the extent that he couldn't get away and get on with my job as he was too busy chatting away.

Dave Bassett, a proper gentleman

He didn't do this - Watford came down from the 1st.

Dave Cusack did it the very same season, taking both Rotherham and Doncaster down to the 4th division, although I have seem dozens of references to Bassett being the only person to relegate 2 sides in the same year.

With respect Celtic will be retrenching a bit pretty soon. Keane is on his way back to Spurs as soon as they can get him a train ticket as the £68,000 a week hes on is rogering them. Also, look at their squad. They are a club with Champions League pretensions buying carthorses like Bougherra from the Pigs.

Bougherra is at Rangers, and they are on a lot less playing budget than Celtic.
