Player Suggestion Ollie Watkins

Just strikes me as another Callum Robinson. Think we need to be going for a proven striker tbh! (I know its not easy)

Had a £12m release clause that expired at the end of last season. Signed a 4 year contract a few weeks back which will make him very well paid. It will take some serious cash to get him unless he has another release clause but that will be much higher than £12m. More a wide forward than centre but we have played him CF this season, with very mixed results. He's nowhere near as good as Maupay but has his moments. Roy Hodgson went to the Stoke game to watch him (poor bloke)

How's the Prem - as good as 17th in the Champ you think?

As you'll have noticed Les, mixed results, but so far we've not looked out of place, and that includes Liverpool!

Point taken mate, and any club with an eye on promotion should make every effort to make it happen, without breaking the bank of course.

2 goals for him at QPR live on Sky, taking him up to 10 goals.

Might be hard for us, this one.

Should have got him when we had chance be worth more than £12m now

I am sure when the Prince took over as sole owner (subject to appeal, of course), he said something like we would probably only be in for three players in the JTW, but they would be significant, or something like that? (I assume CW has spoken to him about who/what we need to keep us up?).

I wonder if getting Watkins would mean getting rid of Robinson. They seem like similar types. And you never know, if we get to January and Preston are still in the hunt, they could be in buying mode and fancy a go at getting him back.

Which means it's unlikely we will sign anymore championship players in the window , he is a good player but we need players who can come in and improve us in the areas CWAK will have identified straight away.
Warnock went down that road and it cost us dearly ( Tevez or not ) we have plenty of championship players trying to make the grade Watkins is one we may go far in the summer ,I like him like a lot of Blades but he can wait.
Hope we dont get another Maupay thread which dragged in bees fans to the debate.
Enough is enough.

I recall something similar, think the Prince inferred that the 3 or 4 players should be of better quality than buying 5 or 6 similar to our existing squad.

The trouble is, this was what was reported and hasn't been denied or confirmed, so whether it was an accurate piece of journalism remains to be seen. I think the January transfer window will certainly be interesting, but it'll be next summer when the Prince shows us just how committed he is to our cause by loosening the purse strings, allowing Wilder to bring in better quality.

I dont think the comments about 3/4 players was directed at the JTW, It was next summer when we would go for 3/4 superstars if we stayed up to kick us on, it may however be my old age playing tricks on me

You are correct S5, here is what I saw, just found it again

"...On his ambitions, for the club Prince Abdullah said: “I think we need to improve step by step, we will not be able to qualify for the Champions League in one year but every year we stay we will be much better. This year we brought ten players – quality and quantity. Next year if we are in the Premier League we will be bringing two or three super players. We are optimistic that gradually it will be in a better position. Next year, the middle of the table, after - above that....”

I'm sure CW, previously known to be an admirer, would be keen on him.

I suspect however, that he may be too expensive. I doubt Brentford need to sell having shifted Maupay and Sawyers in the summer, even if they do need to pay for theit stadium, he's appears key to their style of play and is obviously bang in form. I wouldn't be surprised if Brentford demanded £20m for him.

If that sort of money is available it's up to CW whether he think he's worth it. The thing that would put me off more than anything would be the return of the swarm. Not sure I could take Banana and his mates banging on about their business model and the lack of bids for weeks on end again.

If he sticks to his word then this statement fills me with unmeasurable excitement 😀

I think we have to be very cautious about the players we bring in ,they have to fit into the team dynamic and ethos we need now to look at maximum 2\3 players per window ,who do we sign ? Do we look at 50 million a piece players ?

real Madrid had it right buying one galatico per window and got the academy producing a stream of players either good enough for the first team of as a revenue stream to purchase the players we need

He’s missing the stepping stone of January.. I hope CW is backed come January or this plan may not be required..

Think we are short in a few places

Would prefer Benrahma, we’ve got players that can finish chances, especially Mcburnie and Sharp. We just need to work on creating chances. I think he’d be perfect, and an ideal long term replacement for Goldie.

I would welcome one or two additions but to be honest if everyone stays fit and in consistent form I don’t see the point in spending for the sake of it. No one gets value in January, everyone is either panic buying or is buying a player at an over inflated price because of the time of year.

I think we’re doing just fine as we are. Perhaps a bit of cover in a couple of areas if we can pick up some potential from the Championship. I wouldn’t want to see us spending big money in January. It’s not needed.

I'd definitely sign Watkins, he's a great like for like replacement to come on for Mousett and he's a long term signing at a good age.

Maybe we can get the government to buy Shirecliffe for £200m too?

I completely agree that we are doing fine as we are but if any thing happens to Stevens, Jack, Bash or Baldock I'm not convinced we have the depth to cover sufficiently.

Just seems.a needles gamble when so much is at stake

Personally i would only like to see us spend biggish if one of our key players was out long term.

The team that's currently doing extremely well is pretty much last years side. Our big summer signings barring Mouse can't even get in the team so why waste more money on Championship players that may or may not make the step up?

Watkins for me is no better than Callum Robinson was in the championship and Brentford would probably want close to £20million for him. Robinson hasn't really impressed, looks a bit star struck to me, and there's not really any evidence Watkins would be any better.

With our budget i really don't see where we could guarantee to improve on what we already have although must admit I like the look of Rodon at Swansea. Again though no guarantees he makes the step up.

The other one we've been linked with is Hendrick but after Saturday can't say he improves our midfield.

Nothing new here as per usual from the Star.

How James Shield continues to get away with an output that can only be described as pathetic continues to astonish me. He offers no exclusives, no great insights and simply regurgitates and then repeats stories that are already in the mainstream (or on here).

I don't agree with everything Danny Hall says but I must admit he's light years ahead of Shield and I'm sure would be able to do the role of 'Utd Correspondent' justice by himself.
