I can fully understand the resentment of other fans about our recent media coverage.

At the start of the season the assembled punditry wankerati generally claimed we were cannon fodder with an unattractive style of play.

In the past month the same twats have been falling over themselves in competition to praise our magnificent style of football. We've become fashionable and nobody else likes that. Fuck it, even we don't.

However, a lot of our support has become a bit precious about it and it's really winding others up, just like it did with Wolves fans the other day. Curiously enough they're another 50s throwback team with a glorious era nobody can now remember, though I don't think that's got anything to do with it.

As usual Roy found a couple of comments by eye-spinning, drug addled loons but in the main those comments are more than reasonable considering they had an unexpected win, the last 20 minutes of which they would have had their feet up basking in the warm glow of satisfaction.

“once we took the lead we played a really expansive attacking game. We didn’t sit deep and rely on luck to win at all”

Says it all really. He must’ve been watching a different game to me.

No away win is a bad win, but god, a multi multi million pound team playing ten men behind the ball, time wasting (even at 0-0) and rolling around. They were embarrassing.

Cheers Andrew. Quite proud of myself for managing to read this after last night when denounced football forever and swore never to think about this game ever again. Just goes to show how fickle football fans are eh 🙃

If that's an example of Bruce's Newcastle I'd rather go shopping at Gateshead than watch that boring shit on a Saturday. Give me Wilder anyday. In fact I'd rather go back down playing the way we have been doing with proper football than switch to that turgid park the bus shithousery for survival.
We know that it is an example because he did exactly the same last weekend against City and last season against us with Wednesday. Turgid stuff that depends on riding his luck big time.

They are an absolutely horrible team to watch if they play like that every week. Fair play to them for nullifying us though.

We do need to address this 'park the bus' style of tactics. Wilder wanted us to go more direct and we should have. We should have been slinging in diagonal crosses from the wings towards McBurnie and Mousse instead of keep working back and across of them - their defensive lines of 5 and 4 had it far too easy in the second half.

Having said all of that I very much doubt there is another team in this division that plays like they did.

Major points from last night:

  • We could not finish
  • The Lino probably should not have flagged but we should have played to the whistle anyway
  • We couldn't break down their version of Hadrian's wall
  • Crap defending for their first goal
  • Best away atmosphere this season
  • We have hopefully taken and learnt more from this game than it looks

Just keep on what we are doing with the other 18 teams and we have no worries with stopping up :)

So Wilders getting sacked in a year ! Pmsl .

Also how often have they left the sports direct stadium early and half empty !

Thanks as always Roy 👍

No. The ruling is lino doesnt flag if unsure until that part of play has ended unless he is 100% sure its offside. He obv was sure therefore he flagged, had he not flagged and waited to see the outcome then var ruled it not offside then fair enough.
That's not the PL approach to it. They've decided to flag if they think it is, but ref doesn't whistle and then they check after the 'goal'. The approach you describe is the way UEFA do it in the CL... The PL way is fcking ridiculous though!

With the exception of one or two pig like comments re Wilder, they’re pretty much spot on. They loved the result but hated the Bruce style of play.

I'll take a rain check on this occasion to read their views. I generally have a lot of respect for both Newcastle and Sunderland fans but I know what they'll be saying on the match, and also any opposition teams fans would say the same that we should play to the whistle. However, there's the valid points that Wilder has made also in my view. VAR's here to stay sadly, although I really hope that come the end of the season it is reviewed, hopefully scrapped.

As for the we've got Championship forwards up top, I don't think that was the issue last night, I actually though that our best chance of a goal was from McBurnie, but I would say that I thought we should have gone with Robinson alongside McBurnie, or even Robinson alongside Sharp so we had some pace and a bit of trickery but they sat so deep I'm not so sure that anything in our armour would have made a difference. We had to get the first goal last night though and the defending for their first was poor, sorry to say that, but overall I'm still very pleased with how we played. These things happen, I had a bad feeling about last nights game and so it proved. I think we'll beat Norwich though, we always bounce back well!

Whoooosh! 😉

“we were absolutely schooled in the first half, but Shef have got championship players at the end of the day, and they had nothing up front to make the most of their dominance.”

Says the fans of a team with fucking Joelinton, a MF as their top scorer and before tonight were 4 goals less than us scored....
It’s true though. We don’t have much quality up front for a PL team, it’s irrelevant who says it.

I’ll let you into a secret. I rarely read them. I’m not really interested what supporters of other teams think of us.

They'll cry about VAR when it bites them. Everyone does. Because it's shit
Clogging up the phone ins with their deluded ‘I’m not saying we should be challenging for Europe but we should be in the top six’ shit.

Not bitter at all. I do hope Newcastle find themselves reaching the final game of the season needing a win to escape relegation only for a ludicrous equaliser to be awarded by VAR in the 88th minute.

But I'm not bitter.

I think I watched a different game to this chap.

He was watching Arsenal v Brighton on a black and white TV.

Wow what a great team they are to watch I bet they feel that season ticket money is well spent watching their expansive pack the box football ..as for your massive club until John Hall sank his cash in 1992 you were playing in front of 18k .. or have you erased that from history you thick horse twatting brain deads

I can only interpret that Toon comment as sarcasm. As that's exactly what they did

To my shame first post on your "View From" thread, of which I always read and enjoy, so firstly a BIG Thank You for your time and effort.
What caught my eye were two Newcastle reply's I would have been proud to use myself. Comparing us to Sunderland, knowing how they feel for them and their present position, and reference to 1970's football, to me really cut to the quick.
Another day another dollar, learn and move on.

Geordie in peace,

Thought we were lucky to be in the game at halftime, let alone winning. Dubravka needed to make a few top class saves to keep you out. Bruce's park-the-bus schtick has a more desperate, panicky vibe to it than Benitez'. Under Rafa our centrbacks were finding Perez, Ritchie, Atsu or Rondon with long ball and our central midfield was close enough to help out. Steve has a deep lying Shelvey launching 60yd balls up for the static caravan with a man bun to watch sail past. So many last-ditch tackles, so many hopeless, hapless ball to nobody.

Shelvey's goal was weird, I thought he was wasting time (as we had done for much of the game) when he carried on, but fair play to him, he knew that Carroll's position was marginal and carrying on with his run may well bear VAR flavoured fruit. Hence asking the Ref to check VAR as he trotted back.

Fully expected a loss pre-game as, while you may not have the star names in your team, you're a brilliantly coached, committed Premier League side, who're where you are on merit. (no intention to sound patronising so apologies if it's taken that way.

Put it this way, I'd rather be in your position than ours. Owners with ambition, manager with a plan, must be nice.

Good luck with the rest of the season, and if you need any advice for your visit to St James' (pubs, parking, pizza) let me know.
