Step up Ollie Watkins (and Robinson going the other way)

Not as beastly as Mousset, but his pace and trickery make it just as hard to stop him.

Grant scored again last night.

Watkins will inevitably be linked but he doesn't have the same level of athleticism and his price will be inflated massively.

The alternate will be to take Mousset off, push Didsy forward as a lone striker and play Luke Freeman and Lundstram in advanced positions behind him. It's not like our midfielders don't join in attacks and score.

Wilder signed Robinson and McBurnie for a reason, he’s not going to write them both off after only 13 matches.
Agreed... and I think the difference between Robinson and Mousset is confidence at the moment. I do think Cal has that explosive pace and unpredictability in his locker somewhere, he is just not quite hitting that level yet and is adjusting to the PL standards, he looks a little lost when he comes on and I still think he is trying to work out his role with limited game time.

McBurnie is a scorer and still looks a bit raw, good news is that he can refine his game a bit while continuing to nick goals, even at PL level

Give them both a full pre-season and let's see where they are 20/21

Grant would be my choice as no way are Udders going up so he may fancy joining the big league again. No idea whether he passes the CW twat test but i'd certainly be looking.

Wouldn't go near Watkins with a barge pole at the price they would want for him. Very similar to Robinson and absolutely no proof he'd be able to make the step up any better. I'd go as far as to say CR was the better player when they were in the same league last year and we can't afford to blow another £20mill on another who may need time to adjust.

At least Grant has played in the prem before should be able to step up again.

As like for like as possible.

He has become so pivotal to everything we do going forward that proper cover/competition for him has to be something of a priority. Especially with his apparent injury issues.

If he stays on today, we win. I have absolutely no doubt about that. He kept them pushed back. Our outlet, the constant threat. As soon as he went off they could relax, as we suddenly became limited.

Karlan Grant from Huddersfield stands out as an obvious option.
Andre Gray ?

You sure about that?

They've lost 1 in 10 compared to 7 in their first 8. The Cowley's have certainly started turning their ship around

I know it's still relatively early days mate but although they've steadied the ship they're currently 19th and 11 points off the Top 6.

That's a big ask and can't see anyone outside the Top 8 as it stands gatecrashing by the end of the season.

I may be wrong though.

I was thinking about this earlier. Robinson has spent the best part of his career out on the wing in the Championship. All of a sudden he's signed by a Premier League team and asked to become a striker.

Being asked to play a new position can be hard enough to adapt to. Doing it whilst adjusting to a step up in league at the same time, that's even harder. Obviously Wilder believes he can do it, but Callum doesn't seem to agree so far and needs to find faith in himself.

On showings so far he tends to revert to what he knows best and drifts wide, hugging the sidelines. Unfortunately that leaves his partner isolated up front and having to contend with two or three defenders on their own. Didsy or Moose are smart enough to drop deep and leave the defence on the edge of their box whilst they offer themselves up for the ball. McBurnie doesn't do this, he stays next to the defenders ready for a physical dual, and the attack often breaks down as it's too easy for the defence.

Both Mcburnie and Robinson have something to offer but not as a partnership together. They may have both been involved for the equaliser on Sunday, but just about the whole team was in Man Utd's box fighting to get us a result.

Robinson did look good on Sunday, he put himself about, got more involved off the ball than normal in closing down and challenging Man U players, but he was still hugging the wings in attack.

bare in mind in comparisons of Robinson and Mousset... we are comparing a WINGER with just 13 epl games under his belt playing as a striker
vs....
a STRIKER played in preferred position with 60+ epl games under his belt.

Because mousset is young and quite unheard of pre-blades, i think people easily forget he is actually a quite experienced EPL striker, he has played against every team except the two other newly promoted teams

Eddie Nketiah on loan from Arsenal would be a good signing. That “football genius” Marcelo Bielsa can’t get a tune out of him.....But Wilder would.

Mouse has determination. Robinson doesn't.
Don't think it's determination as i do think he tries hard. I just don't think he has the physical attributes to be a CF (in the capacity of Moose anyway).

People saying that Callum can turn into a beast like Mousset need to look at them side by side. It's like a heavyweight going up against a featherweight.

Mousset had scored 3 Prem Goals in 3 years before he joined us

Fair point, I was more suggesting that I’ve not seen many open goal misses like that than saying he was unsuitable. That’s the only comparison. If he didn’t cost more than £5m I’d be happy to take a punt.

Probably double to treble that unfortunately

What about our MASSIVE Wendy friends ?

Considering his opportunities of late Mc Burnie did what we paid for scored a vital goal in an 18 minute cameo. Did far more than Sharp managed. Give him the chances he will provide
McB did his job on that respect, and others fluff it in the same position, so full credit to him.
At the same time, when he very first came on, a ball came through, past him, he didn't bother. DeGea collected it. If it had gone through Moose, he would have got there first.
The difference is, Moose is driving the play, making chances for himself and everybody else.
I'm not bashing McB and Robbinson, they just aren't firing even 50% of what Moose is.

He was about to be subbed off when he got injured!

I agree in general though.

Robinson looks like a busted flush
Sharp is a striker that isn't going to work with us at this level
McBurnie looks out of place and slows everything down

Whilst they all might have something to offer, I can't envisage them as regular starters in a successful team.
Sorry to disagree, but everything you just said runs counter to that praise or grumble clip from Wilder.
I was more disappointed by us dropping two points, but Wilder seems happy with the draw, and all his players.
Maybe we are just guilty of expecting too much too soon? :) Nothing personal, just my opinion.

The only problem with Robinson and McBurnie is they dont press, and so they're not getting game time.

Our system relies on a high press to force errors, we win the second ball high up the pitch or force a misplaced pass. Mousset is brilliant at it but it takes a lot of effort, hence why he cant last the game.

McBurnie doesnt press at all and that to me is why Man U came back into the game on Sunday, cos they were allowed to start building up attacks from the back.

We need someone who is going to press like Mousset does. Sharps a better option as a sub if we're winning at the minute if you ask me

So here's to you, Callum Robinson,
Go out there and grab yourself a goal,
Woah-oh-oh.

God bless you please, Callum Robinson,
Scoring goals the Sheff United way,
Hey hey hey.

Liverpool game?

Played well, conceded 1 and we all know that was just one person's mistake, and McBurnie was on from the start.

He doesn't press as effectually as Mousset, but that's because Mousset is fast as fook and is a special case, not because McBurnie is lazy or going off script. It's just slightly different because not all our players are the same.

I think McGoldrick not being taken off at the same time as Mousset contributed as much as anything to any lack of press. He was obviously shagged.

Mousset can't do 90 minutes because he is behind on his conditioning. He'll get there eventually, until then, no-one we put on will do as good a job at pressing, because no-one is as quick as Mousset.

If it's a like for like your after then I genuinely can't think of a single other player within our reach who is challenging Le Moose right now.

The bigger worry is that if he carries on like this it'll be a replacement we need and not cover. He's got to be in with a shout at the France squad for a start and once that happens, the big boys will have their eyes on him.

Of all the gems CW has unearthed and polished up, this one is the jackpot. It's absolutely scandalous he's been rotting in Bournemouth's reserves for 2 years.
