The other thing to factor in with the "top 6" type teams and squad size/capability is that they all play in Europe (Champions League and Europa Cup) and most of their players also play for their international teams. This means their players are playing probably twice a week, certainly for the first half of the season and probably more. On top of that is the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. Admittedly some teams only play reserves/kids in the early rounds of the Cups but in later rounds they will play the first team. This means that players for those clubs are more likely to suffer injuries and fatigue and therefore they do need 25 man squads. We got knocked out of the Carabao (basically only played non-first choice players), we are not in any European competitions and probably will repeat the Carabao example in the FA Cup (unless we are pretty much assured of staying up). We are therefore unable to give much football to players other than first choice players and frankly our non-first choice players (with a few exceptions) are not really good enough to be part of a rotation system. Most of our first choice players are key players and if they were injured we would probably struggle. I am thinking of the wingbacks, Egan, JOC, maybe Bash, Norwood and Didsy (although we did manage without him for a few games). If we had a squad of 25 all of whom could just walk straight into the team that would be fantastic but how would we keep them all happy?
