Out:
Morrison
Freeman K
Stearman
Robinson on loan
Besic maybe if we could sign Robinson replacement in that spot

In:
1 loan (foreign if Besic stays)
Maybe 1 permanent

We have a 25 man squad which includes Clarke who will presumably move on in January.

So 24 less Morrison, Freeman, Stearman and Robinson leaves us with 20. If Besic stays or is replaced as you suggest plus 1 permanent signing leaves us at 21.

Stearman leaving would deplete our centre backs to O'c, Egan, Bash and Jags - nowhere near enough.

Our only cover for Baldock would be L.Freeman who could well be needed in his more favoured role.

Thankfully CWAK are running the show not you.

One thing is for sure, in this league we can't afford to stand still and if players are not up to it we need to move on!
CW is working with a 25 player squad and currently some of them, 2 in particular, aren't up to it, plus we don't appear to have anyone coming through the ranks at the moment!

Chris answered a question put to him on goals on Sunday yesterday in a quite interesting way, I thought.
He said it was essential to strengthen in January due to the demands of the Premier League, and that he was currently in discussions with the club as to budgets and requirements etc.
Interestingly, he said 'if we were adrift at the bottom, I would probably tell them to keep their money in their pockets'.
That's is clearly not going to happen, so not a real consideration.
We can only speculate at the size of budget available, and the areas he may want to strengthen, but I'm certain that it will be interesting.

I saw that and I was surprised by his sense of purpose bearing in mind he amount of money spent last summer.

Music to my ears though and the owner will simply have to do as he's told. Wilder can call the shots on the strength of his P.L. record to date and the dazzling income streams should we stay up.

Thank god your here to point out that we desperately need to keep players who don't even get near the match day squad around.

If our season is defined by any of those players, with the exception of Robinson who I still hold out a little hope for them it will be a rough second half of the season.

We can't afford to carry a 25 man squad with 5 break in case of emergency players

The JTW is always over priced and regardless of how well we might be doing, we should stick to our spending model. If we have limited funds, focus on quality in a couple of positions.

As far as I can see the only obvious upgrade we need is a replacement for K.Freeman. Great as he has been for us, I think he plateau'd in the Championship and should look to finish his career in there. He can leave with some amazing memories and his head held high.

Maybe we can do better than Besic in midfield and maybe we can get an upgrade on Stearman, depending on how far the pot will stretch.

It's going to be a tough call with the likes of Robison, Morrison and McBurnie, as neither has really been here that long and all are adjusting to a new level - granted that Morrison and McB have played in the PL before, but that was a few years back now.

Just because most of our players have stepped up quickly and seamlessly we think everyone should, and that's fine because the expectations have to be as high as possible for every player. But, remember how most of us felt about Lundstram not so long ago... some players just need a bit more time and are worth persevering with.

Mousset didn't exactly settle quickly at Bournemouth!!! They gave him over 3 years and got rid too early perhaps!!

In that context, just a word of warning not to expect the lad to carry on playing like this for ever.

Just like you can't judge McBurnie and Robinson this soon, nor can you judge a player on a handful of games. Some players play well above themselves for 10 or 12 games and then plateau at their true level. We've had loads like that.

Sweeping statements about any of the new signings show the inexperience of our fans on here. Wilder's opinion of each and every one of them will have to do with attitude and commitment, day to day at the club, not fleeting glimpses on the pitch. There are little clues in his team selections but even those have been decided for him by the form of more established players. McBurnie's situation has been clouded a bit by his alleged driving offence.

Woodburn didn't impress Wilder and, despite his substantial wages and loan costs, he froze him out and got rid as soon as possible.

January will be interesting, there will be demand for all 8 of our summer signings, especially L.Freeman I would think.

Screw that! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to compete at the top level and even win a trophy. Give Wilder every penny he wants to spend.

If we go down what's the worst that can happen? League One? Been there, done that and got the t-shirt.

By the time we would land in League 1 we would have a £70m wage bill and will have spent over £100m on transfer fees, that's why!! Not as daft as it sounds,

Within 2 months you will see the effect of injuries, fatigue, suspensions and loss of individual form. Inevitable.

20 man squads do not work, period.

Preston and Swansea, both in excellent positions in the Championship, can be goal shy nevertheless.

Both would be first in the queue to get their tried and trusted favourite players back for the run-in.

25-5+2=22

25 minus Clarke minus 5 plus 2 =21.

Nowhere near enough.

We turn out 18 every match day!

We are competing wirh clubs who are paying their 23/24/25th players more than our best players.

Why only have 21 or even 22 including Clarke? Why?

I am not concerned about who we may buy I am more concerned about who we may lose. If HRH needs money to pay KMc then Enda and JOC may just cover it. Look at Leicester who are challenging at the top could not stop Manure from taking Harry. I think many clubs with money will be interested in half of our team.

Hope the Verrip saga is sorted soon enough as I think he is likely to be in for Hendo next season, if we don't buy Hendo ourselves which will free up a loan slot.

Because you use the wages and any fees from the players moved on to help bring in 2 players who are actually challenging for minutes.

Stearman would be the risk, still a decent player, dressing room leader. But also probably the highest earner.

I would value a right footed version of Osborn and another forward much higher than the other players. Especially if they were realistic challengers to the first 18

As CW and the Prince have both stated previously, we put this squad together at the start of the season with one eye on the distinct possibility that we would be back playing Championship football next season. Of course we weren't actively planning for that, but we had sensible contingencies in place regarding our player recruitment.

As we have exceeded all expectations so far, I think we are right in re-planning and re-adjusting our expectation levels. Now is exactly the right time to look to strengthen as a premier league squad. I don't want to sound like the piggies here, but with just one or two key additions I have seen nothing at all in the league (apart from the obvious big hitters) to frighten us. We could and should finish very comfortably in mid table with between 48-55 points.

Risky in defence and perhaps keeper. Very risky in sheer numbers. Definitely a gamble and would further unbalance the squad but it's a strategy, that's for sure, with strikers in abundance.

Wilder can't gamble like that though.

IF HRH uses the club's money it will be from next years PL money (assuming we're still there) so highly unlikely player sales will be down to him. Whatever his longer term plans, he wants a winning, known, brand internationally.

If the money was there to replace like for like with higher quality or there were any viable players in the U23s then I'm almost certain the players who don't make the match day squad would be replaced.

Freeman and Morrison are both worries in terms of the fitness required to play our system. Clarke and Bryan aren't good enough. I personally don't think any of those players are viable squad players for us. Wasted money (only in terms of this conversation. Not degrading any past achievement)

Besic? No idea but not had an impact. Robinson looks like he needs a run of games and we can't facilitate that. You're probably right about Stearman

I don't think moving some of those players out for less players, who may actually contribute is a risk

Staying up and then getting into that upward spiral of expenditure is a dangerous game. We may make fun of Wednesday fans counting the days till our fall (and I know I do, for one) but beyond the big-moneyed 6 + Everton, there is no such thing as an "established" PL club. I think West Ham have the longest unbroken run apart from those other clubs as they're into their 8th season.

Stoke probably thought they were, with their rich owner and numerous signings not good enough for Barcelona. They'd finished 9th the season before they were relegated and they had players like Shaquiri, Arnautovic, Jese, Afellay, Bojan and the Welsh Xavi.

When relegation comes the side inevitably gets broken up, the ones who've proved themselves get new PL clubs and the others remain, either still on very big wages or, because of relegation clauses, on vastly reduced ones, demoralised and bitter.

This situation needs planning for, because it's going to happen. Personally I hope it takes 10 years and I don't care about it as I'm enjoying the ride right now, but over-stretching to avoid the inevitable is a bad idea. When we're relegated we need to be in a strong position to challenge again in the Championship, not be trying desperately to offload useless articles who'll drag us further down.
Extremely sensible post. You'll probably get flamed for 'lack of ambition' as I was when making a similar argument regarding European qualification.

I'd be wary of baby/bathwater. Whilst not Prem quality, I suspect that the Bladeyness of the likes of Stears, Moore and Clarke would be sufficient to get a tune out of them for 3 or 4 games if push comes to shove. Its increasingly looking like Billy is in that category too. No James Wilsons in their stead for me. We don't "need" to do much business this time around and with Kev due 50 mill in a few months, it isn't the time for tinkering with 19/20 and 21's.

Brilliantly put sir 👍

Ask Ipswich fans how McGoldrick plays so many games for us.
I don't know any Ipswich fans to ask? I would imagine that not commuting from Nottingham to Ipswich on a daily basis probably helps McGoldrick's injury record.

Completely agree. It's only going to be an issue if we end up in a situation like Norwich's and need to play Moore, Stearman, Bryan, Morrison and Clarke at the same time. Our injury record over the past two-and-a-bit years suggests that is highly unlikely to happen.

The only thing which may change that is if the fringe players start agitating for more first team football a la Mark Duffy.

Well in that case we'd probably lose, like pretty much any team with 5 reserves starting not just Norwich. I know January looks like hard work ( though who wouldn't be happy if we were playing WHU or ARSE fixture this week) but the run of games before and after look less so. If we concentrate on that, the issue of JTW strengthening goes away regardless.

Hear what you're saying about the fringe players and whilst I don't know enough about their characters etc I can't see Freeman wanting to give up on Premiership football after half a season, Besic I'm not bothered either way as he isn't ours, Morrison will leave out the back door in Summer anyway but I could see Osborn looking at Forest and wishing he was still there.......... I'd hope they'd all stay as their presence helps keep our Aces on their toes, but if one goes, there a free of charge ready made replacement we could recall...

Diddn't HRH want "Big foreign name"? I hear Zlatan is a free man

Man City and Wolves used 21 players last season finishing 1st and 7th respectively. Liverpool used 23 and finished 2nd.

Say you don’t like the idea of it fair enough but saying it ‘doesn’t work, period’ is an immeasurable load of bollocks.

The issue there is that if Jack Rodwell goes for that walk in the park he would inevitably pull a muscle and be out for 6 weeks.
I’m not bothered about that, more the fact he hasn’t played well for 5 years, infact barely played for 5 years.

He was alright before he went to City 8 years ago.
