Norwood's first two corners yesterday were both awful, the first one went straight out. The Tottenham pitch was unusual, there was a slope up to the corner flag. A pundit was recently saying that the corner taker should practise taking corners before a game because all pitches are different (size, etc). Perhaps Norwood should start doing this in the warm up!

No excuses for me. They're professional footballers. First corner in particular was piss poor. Thought Norwood was marginally our poorest player yesterday. He only gets 9.5 out of 10.

I'm a big Norwood fan, but small margins count for a lot at this level. A superb shot that led to the corner.

The old White Hart Lane had the same slope up to the corner flag. There you could see that it was shortage of space which meant it was difficult to avoid, but it’s an odd feature of a new ground. You’d have thought it can only be there because it was designed that way.

The Premier League rules specify a maximum gradient on the pitch of 1:41, but doesn’t appear to say anything about the immediate perimeter, which is pretty important.

I agree it would be sensible for a corner taker to take a few practice corners before the match, as without that it’s a clear advantage for the home team that their corner takers are used to these unusual features.

I'd imagine it's related. I visited there a few weeks ago and they explained that the football pitch retracts to reveal the American football pitch beneath - although (oddly, I thought) they said you have to take all the turf off the football pitch before retracting it.

This video shows how the retractable pitch works, and does seem to explain the slope - basically you're running up the ramp which addressed the height difference when the football pitch is in place.
