It really shouldn't but the current narrative of having a squad that is 'nothing special' and it being all about Wilder really starting to grate.

The manager decides on a system, recruits to fit within that system, picks the side, motivates the players but he doesn't kick the fucking ball for them.

If we played 4-4-2 or a 4-5-1 shutting up shop and smashing high balls into the box for a battering ram centre forward to get on the end of then they would have a point. We don't

Wilder has assembled a squad of good footballers capable of playing exciting (and winning) football at the highest level. Not the best players in the league but good players that other teams would want. Give them some credit.

“I think Sheffield is actually quite scary. A hard working, well drilled, effective team – and a manager that wont settle for any slip – up against us? Unless we really raise our game I think they could take a big scalp at the weekend.”

We have already had a bigger scalp my dear friends...............Arsenal.

Just like Sheffield, North London is red.

"They will look to get a single goal and then shut up shop. And they’re good at it."

Nope. We will look to get a single goal, then another, and possibly another. Wilder does not go out for 1-0 wins. And we never shut up shop. Egan makes sure the shop is never open in the first place.

Really?! I think we've shut up shop a few times this year when we've been in the ascendancy and could have gone on and got another goal. Not always in 1-0 situations but the West Ham game was a big example.

I agree with everything else in your post about how we have a squad of good footballers capable of playing exciting and winning football at the highest level, but personally don't have any issue with a team who are perennially challenging for the Champions League (and got to the final last year) looking at us and saying we're "nothing special".

"Nothing special" to me is what you'd use to describe a team that you think are beatable but decent - a midtable team, someone you do have some respect for but realistically feel you can win against. To get that from Spurs fans - having gone from being everyone's pick for 20th - seems like a compliment to me.

Most Spurs fans are very self-deprecating, particularly those that are old enough to remember watching us in the nineties.

We had a pretty shitty period in the 90s too: a 3 sided ground, having Adrian Heath as manager, watching John Ebrell (our record signing) hobble off, never to play again, after just 45 minutes, selling our top two strikers on the same day in a season that might otherwise have ended in promotion, spending most of the decade outside the top tier, a succession of useless twats in charge of the boardroom, most of our incoming signings were free transfers, we once went a year without an away win (a year!).

Despite all the doom and gloom, I'd often turn to my mate and say "at least we don't support Tottenham. Poor bastards, having to watch the likes of Gascoigne, Lineker, Sheringham, Ginola, etc and only winning the FA Cup, League Cup and Charity Shield this decade".

I'm not ashamed to admit it, thinking about your hardship actually makes me feel quite emotional. :)

wahoo its Friday !
cheers as ever Roy
mostly fair comments, know a few spurs fans and they talk mainly sense most of the time

Ha ha. Very good. All about perspective I suppose!

It's taken me an hour see the relevance of this post 🥴

Don't know whether to be worried by the negativity or just delighted that we've come this far.

Much prefer fans writing us off usually.

Thanks Roy. Think that's the first time I've had goosebumps reading the comments, speaks volumes when the likes of Spurs fans give such glowing praise.

I know they’ve had a poor start by their standards but the fact Spurs fans seem abit worried about playing us at home shows how far we’ve come. They were Champions League finalists last season FFS.
So they should be worried, we should have beat the Champions !!😀

First view from where the fans fear us, and they happen to be the CL finalists puts them in the bracket of Juve or Madrid - so nailed on defeat then

Always quite liked Spurs overall (notwithstanding the Tim Sherwood stint). I think in part it's because they always seemed to have (a) a nice kit and (b) some interesting and talented players - Ginola, Van der Vaart, Eriksen etc. Also, as I recall they were pretty sound before/after the League Cup games too and seem to have continued that trend with the thoughts about tomorrow.

Thanks Roy, but fuck, the cat is well & truly out of the bag now.Years of watching us snatch defeat from the jaws of victory tells me that as soon as anyone praises The Blades we blush like a love struck teenager & make sure we bloody well loose as thanks for the nice words. Please please please this set of lads are made of sterner stuff & will show the Spuds they were right in their fulsome praise of us.

Cheers Roy!
Good comments, but there's always one fucking cock end who calls us cloggers.

Those are my favourites. And at least he called us "organised cloggers", so that's like the equivalent of a double word score.

Like most people, I don't mind Spurs at all. The only thing that gets on my wires is that slowed down "When The Saints" version they do.

For some inexplicable reason I always want the other team to score while they're singing it. Tomorrow I'll be praying for that.

That was a nice funny read.

Spurs fans seem like kindred spirits with those witty comments that could easily be taken from the pages of s2.

What a set of patronising wankers! We are Totteringham so we should automatically beat those.

Cloggers - tick
No individual talent - tick
Coming for a draw - tick
Sheffield - tick, tick, tick and another fookin tick.
Score one and shut up shop - tick

Spurs have been rubbish since March, let's go and cause that massive upset.

Good. They will find out tomorrow what the show is really all about.
In fairness, most have a sensible amount of respect, of what we've achieved, especially from who they 'are' .

Thanks for that Rainbow Roy,

I am interested in the “cloggers” comment as it seems they have had 25 yellows to our 20 and 2 reds to our 1 (Billy Sharp ffs).

no idea what their cards were for, diving possibly, in which case if we are cloggers they are cheaters.

If, in the unlikley event we enter the last 15 minutes of this match several goals to the good, our following doesn't serenade the team home with a 1/4 hour long rendition of 'Chrissy Wilder's Organised Cloggers' to the tune of 'Chrissy' Wilder's Red & White Army', I shall damn well tut and shake my head.
