Roygbiv and me discuss it in detail, along with John Lundstram going global, Mousset's superb showing, Burnley's slightly baffling approach, asking whether any of the 06/07 side would get into this one, and finally a quick look at Spurs' season so far.

I your defence as you mentioned italia 90, I do think it was that world Cup which was very defensive that triggered Fifa to make the back pass rule, just took a couple of years before the law came in.

Yes it was the Premier League when Newcastle finished 3rd in 1993-94.

Great Pod gents! Very enjoyable listening indeed. Loved the point about Lundstram being our most famous player. Strange to think about but it may be true, at least in a world-wide sense.

Also just to clear up one question that came up during the episode- Flecks goal vs Burnley was a first time hit, he didn't take a touch before his strike. Shows how good the through-ball was from the Moose!

Have to agree with Roy too re: JOC and England, what respect I have for Southgate will completely evaporate if he's not in the squad.

He was already better than Mings before the last round of internationals but now it's not contest. Mings drops massive clangers every week, unless JOC scores 10 own goals in the next 2 games there's no way on Earth he doesn't get called up.

And if Henderson, J is still hobbling around, Lunny might get a call too.

New RoI kit comes out in a couple of weeks, it'll go straight in my basket if Gareth makes the wrong decisions.

Derek Geary was definitely our first choice rb (might have him above Baldock, think he would've made a really good wing back, it would be close)
Jags 100% above Bash - he was ALWAYS a defender in my mind at least, only Warnock thought otherwise!

And that's it.

(I appreciate you were trying to compare from this stage of the season, but might as well just compare the whole squad, I still think you get the same answers anyway)

He started 26 league games that season to Kozluk's 17 but I had a look at a few teamsheets and he didn't seem to be in the team much / at all at this point, not sure if he was injured (Geary, this is) or what.

He did but he was right footed so I'd have to be fair and put him at his proper side

I'd say the fairest way to do this would be to pick the best (opinions of course) XI, and compare it to the XI that played on Saturday.

So for me: Paddy, Geary, Jags, Morgan, Armstrong, Gillespie, Monty, Tonge, Quinn, Hulse, Stead
Against our current XI, only Jags is the definite in my opinion, you can make an argument for Hulse, Geary or Paddy but not for me.

If only we'd seen Li Tie that year, maybe he would've crept into the XI ahead of Lord Lunny.

Can't see O'Connell ever getting in ahead of Mings. Villa is a more fashionable club & Mings looks more like a modern CB. Big, athletic, etc...

People see what they want to see as well. No doubt Mings would have got a lot of plaudits for his clearance of the line vs Man City the other week. The less said about Gabriel Jesus out jumping him to set up Man City's 1st goal the better though...

Yep, thought exactly the same re: Geary. I actually think Baldock is the better defender of the two, but Geary was good on the ball in terms of passing/crossing.

The team in the 3-0 win against West Ham (our most complete performance) was arguably our best (minus Hulse). If we’d stuck with this the rest of the season I think we’d have stayed up. Hulse in for Nade and it’s our best XI.

I think the current format is pretty good with a nice mix of stats and comments and I enjoy the alternative MotM.

The NW team v CW's was a great question and much like yourselves I can only see Jags making it. If Hulse hadn't got injured then maybe there is a case for him up front with Didsy but that's it IMO.
