Totally agree. Basing it on last year’s top six is a nonsense when you see how Man U and Spurs are carrying on and how good Leicester are.

I think Leicester have been the best team we’ve played so far. I’m not saying they’re better than Liverpool overall, but they’re very good!

surely if you base the other 14 home results as being 14 wins , thats 42 points and you stay up easily

as weve seen we are getting results away but lost 3 at home , admittedly 2 versus top and 3rd in the division


think we can discount Leicester being in the other 14 this season
They look far better than Arsenal and man utd so far


all that matters is 13 points from 10 , a quarter of the season and we are well placed and look far better than at least 6 other teams, maybe more
and the joint best defence in the division
 



Think what's interesting about this site is it's an alternative way of looking at our progress throughout the season
As it stands we are 5th in the league and obviously outperforming expectations and I should be supremely confident that we can keep doing so

Problem is every time I look at the bottom teams I can't pick three that will definitely go down

So looking at this from an alternative view by using this table it shows we are 5 points ahead of where we need to be at this point of the season and I think that puts things into perspective a bit more

Of course I much prefer the table where we are 5th but I think using this one we won't lose much ground if we don't pick up points during January when we are up against the big guns

One thing I have noticed with this is that Aston Villa have consistently been in the bottom two all season in this ‘other 14’, yet their league position has been generally higher and am sure they were up to about 11th at one stage (I know they have dropped back to 17th now).

I guess the idea is that this table is indicating they were in a false position. Will be interesting to see how the season pans out for them. A bit like last year when all the stats people were saying Wednesday were in a false ( too high) position early on, and so it came to pass as they faded into mid table obscurity.

Yeah that's exactly it , I'd never heard of this before the start of the season but it seems a good way of gauging how your team is doing in it's quest for the magic 40 points .nothing more nothing less

I've watched Villa a fair few times and I have trouble tallying their performances with how happy their fans seem to be.

They're very rarely a threat in games for more than 25 mins or so, even games that they win.

When they beat Everton at Villa Park they were getting absolutely battered, Everton were hitting the woodwork, Heaton was scrambling, last gasp clearances etc, but they scored one on the break and another from an Everton mistake.

Same with their Spurs and Man City game. Man City it was a matter of time, so many chances went begging. Villa had a couple of counter chances and passed quite well, but only in the first half or so, after that they just dropped back and invited Citeh to get their eye in and the result was a loss.

Tottenham battered them too, if it wasn't for Sissoko blasting the ball into row Z they'd have been down a lot sooner. Saw a stat video that said they have the worst shots against stats in the league.

They have some good players, so there are moments of good play, so maybe they focus on those, but it's a fraction of the 90.

Just lost two keepers too
 

I think now we are starting to.see the insight this table gives us compared to the league table
Look at the difference between us and Brighton for example ,you can see that most of their points gained are against teams from the other 14 which means that if we can do well now we have easier fixtures then the 39 points should be well within our grasp
 


Ten points clear of where we need to be ,easy to see why villa are slipping and it wouldn't surprise me to see Watford and so'ton escaping and two other teams getting dragged in ,can't see it being us now
 
Looking at this now there are 5 teams under the bassline which means they aren't picking up enough points outside of their home games against the other 14
Villa being a great example ,against the other 14 teams at home they are picking up enough points yo stay above the drop zone but when they play away or against the top.teams they drop.below again.
Can see them going to the wire and wether they stay up.will depend who they play
Everton arsenal and west ham are their last three which should make it interesting
