The world’s first United is currently the world’s best United*.

(* If the Premier League is the best league in the world, then presumably the best United in it is the best United in the world. The ‘other’ United, supposedly the greatest club in the world, aren't even the second best United in their own country.)

Like that.
I spent my early childhood "jumpers on the ground" being Doc Pace against my best mate, Dennis Viollet

They are certainly the best 'Heath'. Although they've fallen so far, Adrian is looming large* in the rear view mirror.

Sorry guys....

.

We're the oldest currently standing club to be called united perhaps, but we weren't the first.

Hmmm

History[edit]
The club was originally established in 1873 or 1875, and was originally called Hanover United Football Club

1873 or 75?

That's not very precise so I'm happy to use Pigonomics and ignore this evidence for two reasons:

1/ It seems inconsistent and imprecise
2/ I don't like it

The 6th place finish in 1975 was the last time we were the best United in the country!
Heady days indeed lad, and just 6 years later we were turning out in the old 4th division, I still look back and really wonder how it all happened. Anyway used to love going in the Centre Spot with our kid, great pub back in the day.

He was nicknamed ‘inchy’ because of his lack of height but if it had been down to me, he’d have been called ‘Brum’ Because Birmingham used to be ‘Small Heath’.

It boils my piss when media types give it United this United when referring to the Mancs. Whether it be TalkSPORT, MOTD, Sky or BT. Even when they play West Ham Newcastle and Leeds they still refer to them as United. Well they ain’t fucking doing it to us.
We’re playing them soon, so we need to jump on these lazy cunts who insist Sheffield whilst calling them United.
I know they’re the biggest media darlings in the World and we’ve been out of the limelight for many years. But we need to reclaim our name and go big on the “First United” thing.

The reason they always refer to them as “United” is so the plastics down in London don’t feel too embarrassed with Manchester in the title.......

Weren't there a side called Hannover United who were actually first? Or have I dreamt that somewhere?

Hopefully we're still the top United at 5pm Saturday. That means we've had a decent day

Plymouth United was formed in 1877. They must have folded at some time because another Plymouth United was formed in 1944 and maybe they folded as a further Plymouth United was formed in 2011.

I am sure Plymouth United are referred to in one of the SUFC historical books.

We may not have been the first United but we are the oldest.
