Probably our most creative. I think it’ll rotate a bit depending on who we play.

Right so McGoldrick was fucking superb, end of story. And with the flat 3 in midfield he is vital upfront.

Mousset gave us memories that will last a lifetime but he didn’t play well in general. Kept losing the ball, wasting opportunities and dithering. Goal aside if Robinson had played like that he’d be kicked from pillar to post imo. Don’t know how early he got that kick though so it could all be down to that. And it wasn’t really a Mousset type game really they were very deep and left no room to spin in behind which was odd. And obviously he scored so who fucking cares?

At the end of the day we scored, looked good and won. The partnership stays injury permitting.

I think they probably sat deep because they were terrified of Moussets pace

I think Mousse just lacks match confidence. His first start against a top six side stuffed with pretty good international standard players. It wasn't groundbreaking stuff, but he is the match winner. More starts and if the likes of Norwood, Fleck and Lundy can find him with the pass or Didsy starts a decent partnership, he will improve.

pommpey

^^ this 100% , Didsy is huge to us esp when we play a flat 3 , love watching that guy play , he is a class act
also on class acts, great to see Enda get another nut meg to add to his collecton this season!

His first touch let him down more than once but in terms of trouble caused for defenders I thought the difference between Mousset and Robinson was night and day. His movement was better, he was out-muscling defenders, his pressing was a thousand times better. His hold up play was alright but he lost it a couple of times after getting isolated on the ball. As I said elsewhere, probably not his best day on the ball but was so much more involved in the game than Robinson and McBurnie have been.

Based on what I've seen so far Mousset and McGoldrick are setting the bar and it's up to the other strikers to get up there.

The moose was knackered after 35 minutes, I cant understand why.

Fitness/ stamina seems to be an issue.

Needs sorting if its possible, otherwise supersub.

I though Sharp was also great when he came on, looked up for it and you know if the chance had fallen he would have scored, looked hungry, but in the second half we were mostly pegged back so not many chances, especially in and around the box.

The moose ain’t match fit, he was knackered before half time, hence why he was soon taken off at the restart. As wilder said, he’s had no preseason and was miles behind everyone else. But after last night he has to start until he’s fucked! Because he offers much more physically than Robinson, and is a lot quicker

Yes it is the best partnership option.

Then Sharp is next in line.

I fully agree. I think that so far this season we've got the formation and shape spot on, other than the front 2, and last night that Moose & McG is probably the best we've got to occupy those roles currently. Moose is still raw and lacking a run of games. He was caught with a sore one early in the 1st half which may have slowed him down somewhat. However he looks to be overweight and that might be affecting him. Sharp is the ideal sub or starter if the opposition is right, however last night, when he comes on we immediately lose and an out ball and it allows the opposition defence to push up 10 yards because there is no danger of being done for pace. We could do with Moose v2 on the bench to replace Moose when he comes off, or a quicker version of freeman to run past the CF. I still feel that we are missing someone who can be brought on against either a tiring or pushed up defence, and be a menace in the last 20 mins of games like last night; a Brooks or Deulofeu type of will-o'-the-wisp.

Now for the contentious bit.....I thought McB was poor again. He came on, and i thought he'd be buzzing with a point to prove, but I thought that he didn't look bothered. He looks knackered from the off, like really knackered. I can't honestly tell whether he has been on the pitch 80 mins or 10 mins. He gets knocked off the ball far too easily, doesn't seem to run freely, seemed loathed to do the doggy runs across their defence and didn't look to be remotely bothered about catching up with Sharp when we broke near the end and should've been open for a square ball. Unless he starts pulling trees out of rabbits between now and JTW, i'd be looking to let him move somewhere (probably back to Swansea) either on a perm or loan out and bring in someone better. Who? i think that we'd need to go abroad, and get someone more of a stronger focal point, someone like the Italian forward Petagna for £'s and the championship for someone like Ahearne-Grant either for £'s or in a straight swap for CR.

Last paragraph isn't contentious.

Think your mcburnie point is nonsense.

He did what he was expected to do in the 5 minutes he was actually on the pitch

I understand that many on here have developed an opinion on Mcburnie because of his less than ideal off the field issues but this shouldn’t cloud the view of what he does on the pitch - he did his job well yesterday.

I thought when Billy came on we pushed up a bit actually? I thought it was maybe down to the confidence at getting another leader on the pitch telling everyone to push up

Criticism of Mcburnie isn't allowed. You know the rules.

I hope McBurnie's working bloody hard behind the scenes. He really needs to.

We still need to give him time, hopefully his mind is more focused now. But if it's not looking promising we could do with bringing in a number 9. Don't know who but while we're on Serie A, Andreas Cornelius scored a hattrick at the weekend... although to be fair he did get to play with future world beater Dejan Kulusevski. Grant is a good option, he'd do well for us. I think recruitment is likely to focus elsewhere in January though - we have fuck all cover in DF and CM.

Yes it is the best partnership option.

This.

Robinson isn't a striker imo and currently, our most expensive striker is fourth in line, not including Clarke.

I don't feel like McBurnie put himself about enough in the short time he was on. If you had chucked Leon on in the same circumstances, he would've been harrying and hustling. I'm not scapegoating Oli and want him to come good, just saying it as I see it.

The key to a good strike partnership is Freeman IMO. I think he's brilliant and if we can involve him somewhere behind the top 2 we'd start seeing chances created. Question is, who does he replace. Nightmare.

Brilliant nightmare to have.

Sharp did what we all know he can do, hold the ball up and basically old manned their defence, won free kicks, throw ins and just put himself about.

How does anyone form an opinion (good or bad) of McBurnie's performance if he was only on the pitch 5 minutes and barely got a touch of the ball?

Sounds like nonsense to me.

And that's perfectly fair, K.

He was on for 10 mins in total, and in those 10 mins he displayed the characteristics I described. If i asked you to run around for 10 mins, it would be easily apparent if you were or weren't doing it, wouldn't it? I was surprised by his reluctance/inability to support BS, when he was the freshest pair of legs on the pitch. I don't know what CW's instructions were to him when he brought him on against a tiring defence, but i'm fairly sure they weren't 'amble about'.

My comments about him last night are also pertinent to his general play in the 544 minutes he has played for us. The majority of which i have witnessed first hand. He looks knackered from the off, he gets knocked off the ball far too easily, his first touch is lose and he doesn't appear to move freely about the pitch. For whatever reason, and i doubt that it's solely down to a step up in level, but he looks half the player he looked when i saw him last season.

One thing i love about football - the differences in how people see things.

I thought Mousset showed a couple of phenomenal first touches and close control last night, taking their defenders out of the game at times.

A few pre-conceived views of McBurnie in this thread. He was on for 10 minutes and won 3 free kicks, one in an attacking position on the left wing, and two further back that both relieved some Arsenal pressure. I thought he had a positive impact as did all the team.

Is he going to be good enough in the long term? I think he will be, time will tell.

Mousset has a good first touch and technique.
