Was the best we've played all season. It was a blessing in disguise that Harper got injured and at last we could see the central paring that for months I at least have wanted to see and with the wide men producing so many options as well. Hope Willo can keep fit but I've heard he is a possible injury concern for Tuesday?

It's amazing how many chances we seemed to create when we at last see a truly positive midfield. I know there will be injuries through to May, but we should be looking to play that 4 as often as feasibly possible - each of them excellent today.

Interesting to think that had Williamson not injured his back pre-season, then Monty and Williamson would have been the first choice central pairing from the beginning of the season...

Agree the midfield looked much more coherent yesterday despite Monty constantly giving the ball away at every opportunity. Williamson was absolutely superb and does everything that Monty does and more then finds a red and white shirt. The wingers both put a shift in and threatened all afternoon. I know most on here will disagree but I just don't get this Monty thing, yes he he is as committed as they come but for a pro to return possession back to the opposition as often as he does is just not acceptable and nullifies the excellent work he does in other areas.

Don't agree with that assessment of Monty one bit - in fact I thought he barely played a bad pass all game. He gets extra marks for ignoring the ridiculous "shoot" chants when he was outside the box, instead choosing to keep the move going.

Errr ... did we go to different games yesterday ?cant say as I saw Monty give the ball away all that often .Having a player that constantly offered himself and made himself available like Williamson did helped Monty no end ,rather than having harper stood alongside pointing and waving and doing little else !!

And I just don't get this Monty thing that his critics never see the good work he does. Cannot remember him giving the ball away yesterday and if he did I bet he won it back.
It seems to be a popular misconception that he wins the ball then gives it away, and I feel nothing could be further from the truth.

with acres of space and more rime on his hands than arthur daley, on approx 80 mins he blasted the ball 60 yards to absolutely no one.....

What we need is the ProZone analysis. That way we could use the stats to support whichever theory we hold close. Personally I think Monty is made out of cheese. Disprove that if you can.

:)

Waste of everything this one, has anyone on any forum ever changed their stance on any of the 593746543million Monty is Great/Shite threads?

Oh it's true all right. We do see what he does, just like you do. We happen to disagree about it.

He did well yesterday. I am more than happy to acknowledge that. I like it when our players perform well. Please don't pretend on the back of one decent performance that he has qualities which he patently lacks.

I hope he plays well again on Tuesday.

Just goes to show that the players are plenty good enough, when the ball isn't lumped over their heads for 90 minutes.

Have to disagree sure Monty is limitef in terms of passing and shooting but he played a captains role today and he did play some good passes especially one with the outside of his right foot in the first half. Love him or loathe him every team needs someone to do what Monty does

Monty bashers are out in force again.

Monty for me yesteday was great. Helped Williamson no end. Was always making himself available too.

If Monty could pass as well as running and tackling like he does for 90 minutes he would be playing Champions League not Championship football

Williamson gave a great performance yesterday....just what we want.

He's still not 100% and struggled to keep going in that last 15 mins.

In my opinion he could only do that with a player like Monty at his side.

I hope they both play like that for the rest of the season!

But you have to concede that every professional the club has employed disagrees with your analysis?

Only because the Montyphiles provoked us yet again!

He played well yesterday. That's three times I've said it. I hope he carries on playing as well. He does not usually play well by my standards, which are not unreasonably high - just pass the ball to each other is all I ask.

You could extend that argument to say that if all the players were a lot better they wouldn't be playing for us.

Monty was, well Monty yesterday running, tackling, battling like a good un, but his passing was still like a babby elephant's if he tried anything over a few yards.

Fortunately with Williamson in the team, he doesn't need to pass it more then a few yards (unlike when Squinny plays), and so Monty should be told to keep it simple, get on with what he does best and leave the creative stuff to Williamson and the two wide men, (assuming KB plays this formation again ;-)

Some played well. Others were excellent
