Mcburnie

For me, McBurnie looks very good in a team that isn't playing to his strengths - if he were playing for Chelsea, I'd have no doubt he would be on more goals than Abraham. Watch the two of them and see how they play and read the game. Similar physique, but McBurnie offers far more as an all-round striker.

We have far bigger worries than Ollie McBurnie - he's one of the bright spots for me!
Cancel the post of the year awards. We have an early winner 😀👍.

I do have to agree, McBurnie isn't worth 20 million.

But ... if you look at the other strikers we were linked with preseason, neither of them are setting the world alight in the premier league either. It's a very difficult division for Championship players to step up to.

Hopefully the Prince can free up the cash Jan to sign a goalscorer. Mitrovic from Fulham would be a good signing, if we could afford him. Proven Premiership scorer. But, gotta expect Fulham will want alot for him. But then, will he try to force through a transfer--I can't see him wanting to stick at a Championship team if Fulham keep floundering at mid table.

I also see Jarrod Bowen is out of contract soon, maybe we could snap him up for a cut price in Jan? Not proven in the Prem, but he looks good and we might get him for a cut price, or they'll risk him going for nowt.

A few people mentioning bowen from Hull. I've only seen him against us and on highlights but doesn't he play from the right wing cutting in? Similar to what Robinson did for Preston but from the left? I would say bowen would be more of a 10 than a striker, probably more of a replacement for L Freeman? Although cw could stick him up front I suppose.

for me the issue with mcburnie is upper body strength. have a look at these...:

i have broader shoulders and i can barely do ten press-ups. 9BB97910-EA0D-4E3C-863E-D6E9E2F44A5E.png02445A43-7D03-4C7E-AD71-6FA3588061B8.png9BB97910-EA0D-4E3C-863E-D6E9E2F44A5E.png02445A43-7D03-4C7E-AD71-6FA3588061B8.png

Wilder's comments, if made on this forum as a fan, would be harsher than anything on here. The strikers need to strike and the goalkeeper needs to keep the ball out etc.

No they wouldn't.

Wilder wouldn't call his players shite or useless, unlike some of the morons on here.

Then explain some of the stuff posted ?

Opinions are opinions. It’s what this is all about.

Defending what is, frankly, agenda driven tosh when the VAST majority of available evidence suggests Wilder IS NOT very good at picking offensive players, smacks of stubbornness and an inability to accept one has dropped a bollock. Or four !!

Giving balance, his defensive signings have been the stuff of dreams 😀.

I wonder why ????

Wilder and Knill would do well to bring in an offensive specialist to oversee recruitment.

There. I said it 😀.

Like McBurnie and he’ll score goals given time. Thought he was good yesterday, especially first half. Fleck probably could’ve played him in second half for a great chance when he elected to shoot instead too and then we’d all be saying he was excellent.

As ever, Unitedites never fucking happy unless they’re slagging someone off 🙄

Fair enough. I mean that Wilder is fairly unforgiving of bad performances to the point that even Ian Wright was wincing yesterday.

My assessment of Mcburnie is mixed. He's not the classic British number nine that people expected. He likes to run the channels and come deep to link play. These aspect of his game were good in the first half of the Southampton and Liverpool games. He has a good leap on him, but it's really not his game to have balls lumped in his general direction. His basic fitness is nowhere near good enough, which is why Wilder has featured him in all the cup games: he's blowing after an hour. I'd like to have a look at him partnering Moose or Sharp; or in three with Moose, Robbo or Freeman either side of him.

It’s Sunday. Be nice 😀.

And I have something new for you today. You ready for it ?

I’d like to introduce you to the concept of being wrong. Embrace it 👍. It’s a pathway to a level of self awareness you won’t have experienced b4.

You’re welcome btw !!

I agree. Leon to retire from playing to join the coaching staff.

😂😂😂😂 how the hell are we so negative about our players after a game like that?. Wilder wept
Because this site has become inundated with Pig fans talking everything to do with the Blades down.

Sometimes it just writes itself 😂😂

Finally you’ve found something you excel in. Happy for you. Because it certainly isn’t watching and understanding the game of football.

Nevermind mate, least you’re finally right about Leon, 3 years later and 2 divisions above - he’s finally not good enough. You truly can see the future.

The cross from the left into the box Robinson jumped for it but it hit the top of his head and bounced away wide .If he had left that McBurnie was just behind him unmarked and had a much better chance with a free header you could see the disappointment on his face.

Yeah if McBurnie got his head unto that it was in the net.

McBurnine has looked OK to me - put himself about a lot so far. Was always going to be difficult for him against Van Damme ;o)

Needs a few goals to really get himself going.

Quite like McB. Think he'll definitely come good. Not getting a brilliant amount of service.

He's shown he can finish. Put ball in net twice.

Should have done better with his shot vs Liverpool.

I like him. I said earlier, there werent many strikers available for similar price or cheaper who we could have got.

I thought he had a good game yesterday especially as he was being marked most of the time by probably the best CB in the world right now. He made some decent runs and lay offs and also his defensive work was outstanding as well over the full 90 minutes. No question mark over his fitness after yesterda.

I think it is all about the lack of service & us not settling on a front 2 & how they are playing/linking with the midfield.

A lot of his goals last season where in or around the 6 yard box, & a number from balls into the box from near the line, not unlike how we played for most of last season. But it has been much harder to get into those positions this season to play the balls in, better teams, players & defenders.

What should encourage McBurnie if he reads this thread, is that most of those doubting/writing him off have also doubted/written off most of our current and indeed most former strikers under Wilder at some stage or other and it didn’t turn out too bad. It’s just what some do best, I think that they must work in finance. 😁

Early bid for this season’s John Lundstram scapegoat award at the end of season awards?

New team mates , new system to get to grips with, highest level he’s played at with some of the world’s best defenders and he’s not on ten goals already? What a waste of money!!!

Get a grip boys and girls and give the lad a chance.

His best game today but he’s got Billy on his heels now he’s returning from his ban.

Why do you expect him to hit the ground running? Just because we paid more than we're used to, doesn't change the fact that PL goalscorers are like rocking horse shit, don't usually sign for newly promoted sides and cost a damn site more than £17m-£20m.

Because 17/18 he scored 11 PL goals, 17 Champ goals, 18/19 scored 22 Champ goals so arguable he is PL goal scorer and hence expected him to be knocking a few in by now but as I said before I think he needs to find his form and get that "moment", maybe Watford is the game.

When did he score 11 PL goals? Are you sure you're not confusing goals with appearances?
