He was the worst ref we had last season when he was in charge of the Blackburn game, sending off Chris Basham for two of the weakest yellow card offences I have seen. Expect to see loads of decisions in Liverpool's favour, and penalties being awarded for 'looking like fouls' (like Chris Morgan / Steve Gerrard in 2006!).

He's from just down the road from me , Wythenshawe , South Manchester. If he's a typical Red Devil , he's gonna have no love for Liverpool. If he's a City fan , he'll see Liverpool as a threat to City's title. So his upbringing would militate against Liverpool , to be honest. But refs are impartial aren't they ?

VAR to the rescue

If the situations were reversed, and it was van Dijk who made a sliding tackle on, say, McBurnie that resulted in no contact whatsoever, what are the odds of us being give a penalty v Liverpool?

We would never see intent against - Man Utd - Arsenal - Spurs - or Liverpool..

With VAR we won’t score a good goal or revive a handball decision unless we shoot from outside the box - or the defender dives to his left and catches it on the goal line..

But then the ref may say he was protecting himself with the defensive catch..

After the Arsenal clear handball it’s becoming apparent VAR is being used to manipulate the score.. it’s killing the game - Elite level fixing..

Instead of looking to castigate refs every week, we should maybe follow CW's attitude that the pressure put on officials at this level (and even kids Sunday league level based on my experience) needs addressing with drastic measures.

We need a rugby style approach and tough measures on individuals and clubs who confront and pressure officials too much.

Very poor referee. Rivals John Moss for incompetence. When an ex prem ref was asked to rate all officials before the start of the season Taylor's write up was "its all about him". We get one of the two best teams in the division and we get Taylor. Awaits Trevor Kettles surprise inclusion on the Prem. refs list for our game against Man City.

Knows the rules but doesn't know the game.

Boffin type.

Anything can happen.

Moss probably doing the VAR!!

We didn’t have many issues with refs last season, why was that? Maybe because we were one of the best teams in the league and won plenty of matches.

Blaming refs is what players, managers and fans of shit teams do. We’re better than that.
Largely agree with that but also applies to Spurs, Manu, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea if they lose.......... To be fair to Pep, I don’t recall him moaning about refs?

We have a thread about the referee every week to say that they are terrible. Just out of interest which one is actually any good or not an ego-centric wanker who thinks that 30k people have come to watch them mince about the pitch?

My observations about referees:

  • They are all the last kids picked at school and therefore have a chip on their shoulders before they even start refereeing.

  • None of them can have played football at a decent level as you have to start reffing at about 22 to get to the PL before the mandatory retirement age, therefore none of them actually understand the game.

  • They are the kids at school who used to moan at the football team and say that they should be in the team but actually spent most of their life sat in their bedroom in front of a computer wanking into their socks over the latest champ manager and/or dial-up porn.

  • You see a lot of referees smiling with footballers and thinking that they are best mates with the top players in the world, in reality they players probably hate them and see them as the wankers that they are. They merely put up with them for the sake of their livelihoods.

  • The older generation of referees (Winter, Rennie, Elleray, Poll etc.) were (and probably still are) odious c**ts with a massively high opinions of themselves.

I used to work with an amateur ref. He was amenable enough tbf but he wasn’t that bright and was quite pedantic. He was never boss material but he seemed to like telling people what to do.

Some of the things you hear about the top refs make them sound like complete bell ends.

I've noticed, over the years, that as a team we are very respectful to referees. Ollie especially when he's wearing the arm band. It's kinda nice to see in a weird way.
