McBurnie interview

What were our media team thinking? Not seen the clip but I’ve seen some terrible reaction to McBurnie from Scotland fans. Is it all stemming from that? Some seemed to be Celtic fans being irked that he’d stated a Rangers allegiance.
 
The fault lies entirely with the Blades media team. If a player can't have a private laugh with his team mates without every conversation being recorded then they should tell them to stick the camera where the sun don't shine.

The Communications Manager made a big play of saying he'd given the players a talk on the importance of dealing with the media now we are in the Prem. before the season started. His own team then fail to provide that premiership standard and effectively hang a player out to dry because of their sloppiness. Don't they know Scots have no sense of humour.
 
I feel for Ollie. The weight of expectation on him was high anyway and he is still pretty young and raw (as are a lot of the squad). The others (McGinn, McTominnay etc...) are spared the pressure of being relied upon for goals too.

There is the making of a decent side with a pool of decent youngsters coming through at a high level but I doubt Scotland will see the fruits of that for at least a year.

I have every faith Wilder will develop Ollie.

Agree 100%
IMO.
Whoever is responsible for clearing media releases at the club should think about falling on his sword for this...
Our players need and deserve to be able to trust that the media team has ther back. That media team should all be "switched on" and should never release stuff like this that can cause players to suffer the abuse McBurnie has. We need our players fully focussed on the job in hand. Not dealing with this shite! The media team collectively should have spotted it and edited it out before release. They should then have had a discussion with McBurnie about how he would have felt if it had got out and to think about what he says...
Massive failing by the media team and should be addressed by the club. Not saying heads should roll but measures need putting in place to make a recurrance impossible.
As I said all IMO.
 
Media team at fault.

Not sure of the time line but was this instrumental in him having a couple of 'off days' against Blackburn and Chelsea?

I'm not sure it is. The club pays £20m for a young lad (by far the most in our history), & pay him circa £30k a week. Then you, through your own lack of care & professionalism potentially hinder the return on investment by causing some mental impact...

It would be ruthless, I personally wouldn't like to see it happen... but I think it would be very justified. I'm sure this person has been told in no uncertain terms their fortunate to still be here & I'm pretty certain they will be counting themselves lucky & taking the warning very seriously. They're not irreplaceable in the same way McBurnie is & this is a business.
 
Maybe this will sour our relationship with Scotland so they don't call up any of our players.

Last time Fleck got called up he came back worse for it.

the football side - players, management - is Premier league......
the office side - ticket sales, media...is still league 1

If everyone was chucked under the bus for every mistake there would be precious few people in employment. The perpetrator will have been bollocked to within an inch of their lives and probably feels mortified. That should be enough unless a similar mistake occurs in future.
 
Raging at this. PR should be both marketability and protection. Seems some of the media team got a little giddy.
 
First I've seen of this.

Absolutely amateurish from whomever put that out.

Social media has become obsessional for some and the bizarre desire to see every little thing of what happens.

Hope it hasn't created any tension between the player and the club.

I’m sure Tufty and One will be alive to that and the Scotland manager continues to select him. It’s a goal or two away from being the digital equivalent of chip paper.
 
Someone in the media team needs shooting for it.
 
He's getting some absolute pelters, and it's totally unjustified.

No-one suggesting they are.

However, having someone in charge of our media who thought publishing that footage was a good idea is maybe in the wrong job.

I haven't seen the footage, was it live? Has anyone here actually seen the footage? Was it in the background or was it the focus of the cameras?

It was a 'behind the blades' video outside the changing room before they went and warmed up I think. Certainly wasn't the focus of the video, and wasn't overly obvious what was being said at the time.

It was a howler by the media team, but I didn't pick up on it on first watch, and still struggled until someone wrote down what was being said.

I know some get upset at any criticism of the club whatsoever but you'd really think that anything put out would be considered especially when it includes comments from a player.

A blind man on a flying horse could have told you there would be comeback on McBurnie for that.

It was said in private do why the fuck would someone at the club publicise it.
 
Anyone who dosent get how damaging this kind of thing is in this age of instant judgements is frankly thick as fuck.

The media team needs taking out on at the pitch at next home game to get kidney punched.....
