In Ched's case it is unfair to judge him as a £3 Million player if he only cost half this. As fans we have an expectation of a player who would of cost £3 Million, you wouldn't have the same expectation of a player who cost half that.

If we'd paid for Evans what we'd paid for Cresswell I'd be disappointed. That's why it's semantics. He's been that bad. 3 goals in 20 odd games and little in the way of creativity. I'd expect more from someone who came in on a free.

As for Walker, no need to open that up again. One consolation is that there will be a lot less debate about player sales going forward as there's hardly anyone left who is good enough or interesting enough to provoke a debate about us selling.

Who gives a crap.

Shouldn't have sold Walker, and Evans has been a massive disappointment and at times a waste of a first team place. The figures are irrelevant to either argument.

It is pointless but I like having a bit of fun with Bob.
The overall issue is essentially swapping Walker for Evans in financial terms which has to be one of our more remarkable fuck-ups in recent times.

By my reckoning there's Ward left, the remainder would probably attract fees but not substantial.
The crown jewels have gone, the club's become a home for journeymen we don't even own.
But we do have staff working out at Ferencvaros which has worked out well for us so far.

Fair comment.

Why does it say this here though. http://www.sufc.co.uk/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10418~41879,00.html

I have no idea how much he cost (and am in the "really don't care" group as well) but what is to be gained by putting it on the OFFICIAL SITE, if it wasn't? Are you saying we shouldn't believe anything on there?

If I buy a £500 telly and pay for it over 3 years, the cost of it is still £500. If, for example, we sell him in the Summer we won't have paid anything like £3M for him at that point.

And no, after the season long loan fiasco, maybe we should take stuff on the OS with a pinch of salt

The trick with United over the last couple of years is ignore what they say, or publish, and just watch what they actually do or what actually happens.

Can I just ask, does anyone know how much we paid for Ched Evans?

Thanks in advance

It seems quite unequivocal to me:

"Striker Ched, a product of Manchester City's famed Academy, cost the Blades £3m in the summer of 2009 after a prolonged chase for his signature."

Makes no mention of appearances, caps, promotions, hp agreements, sell on clauses or anything. Just £3m in the summer of 2009.

It may be bollocks but to say it's obviously bollocks when that is the figure on the official site is casting doubt on the club, not the people who read it and thought "Oh, we've paid £3m for him".

Don't spoil it, I could have kept this going for ages.

Just remind me which wise poster predicted you would turn this into a Ched Evans conversation several hours ago

As a matter of interest, if someone asks you how much you paid for your house, do you quote the full price or give them a full breakdown of your monthly instalments etc ?

I tell them to mind their own business.

Everyone knows its only those who bought their houses pre-2005 who answer that question, and then you rarely have to ask it before being told.

You paid the full amount to the seller. If you have monthly installments it's because you borrowed the full amount to make that payment.

How much was it you said we'd paid for Chedwyn?

Nope, your turn to start answering questions Len.

I'm bored with your little dance, you are unable to make your case and therefore unable win your argument.

Should you want to have a proper debate be prepared to back up your wild claims otherwise you just look like an silly old man looking for attention.

Brilliant!

Fair enough :o

The point is, if his price is £3M, that's what will be quoted
It's quite clear given McCabe's comments the whole £3M is dependant upon appearances etc and I guess we'll know exactly how much when the accounts come out in the Spring.

So, is it £3m, or £3m dependant etc etc? Answer the question Fleety....

Bob, I'd won the argument several weeks ago, this is just a bit of fun.
I seem to recall you using £750,000 not so long ago.
Which is odd because I don't recall that being reported, in the accounts or said by McCabe.

Len, until you answer the questions you can't of "won" anything.

You want to turn this into a pissing contest we will see when the figures come out if Ched cost £3 Million.

By which time you will deny you ever said it, just like you did when you slated Ward, just like you won't cancel your season ticket.

Then again the figures have already said KW was £3 Million and you won't accept that either.
I feel I cannot continue to have a battle of wits with an unarmed man, and for that reason I'm out.

Just remember to keep avoiding the questions you can't answer. Feel free to have the last word that you so long for.

Over to you Len.

No, we actually already know that well over £2m has already been spent on Evans from the current accounts, probably close to £2.5m.
Alternatively, you could look up McCabe actually saying £3m had already been spent on him - nevermind the fact that we are paying the non-scoring goalscorer among the highest wages in the league.
I actually think we've probably paid between £2.25m and £2.5m so far.
It doesn't really matter beyond the fact that we've spent this shedload of cash at the same time as selling a player who's already worth more than £3m.
It always looked a stupid sale and it looks idiotic after yesterday's events.

radio sheffield said it was 750k down, rest on conditions...

Our club website is usually full of shite so it's tough to say, it certainly looks like it's not been updated since he signed...

My theory is that the £3m came out when we signed him as a sign of our intention to push for promotion. Then Ched - after a promising start - has a couple of months where he can only be described as bobbah. Taking this on board and in answer to the grumbles from the stands, eg "EVANS, THA'S SHIT!", Blackwell tries to take the pressure off our very own 'transparent taff'* by revealing that he only cost us £750k up front with more to pay based on appearances and promotion (snigger ;)).

In the meantime, no-one tells our website admin to get our story straight as he's still in the middle of a marathon online Call of Duty game and so the original £3m quote remains.

Now, if the £750k+ is correct, then I feel Ched will prove well worth it in the long run, but putting it out there that we paid £3m looks like bloody awful business on our part. Especially if we have to tighten our belts moneywise.

I hope we haven't paid Man City £3m but are really going to end up paying closer to £9m in mortgage instalments over 25 years.

and that would be exactly my reading of it too. The figure changes depending on what "spin" the club are after at any given time.
However, whatever the figure we are currently supposed to believe, the official site is the official site, so £3m it is!!!!

Now throw this one in If we sell on at a profit more goes to Man City.
If we sell on at a loss Man city make up the short fall.
Thats why the negotiations took so long, because of all the clauses.

Also Lenners you can now answer my question from about 3 pages ago please.

I don't care how much we paid for him ...............it were too much he's fookin useless !

No idea what you asked.
Are we going to get the full £3m back when he goes on a free?

Page 13 of the accounts says 'Kyle Walker has returned to Bramall Lane for a further season on loan'.

bad news, only just heard. Spurs are taking the piss with this move, it's not the way to do business. Despite any written rules they may be able to use; to do so at such a late stage knowing it is likely to screw over the club who sold him to you and took him back off you and kept him fit and playing football is out of order. I accept however that we should have reasonable cover for every position in the squad and now will either be the test of whether Geary can make it every week or will screw us for a week at least until we can loan someone else.

Screw you Spurs, act like this repeatedly and people will stop doing business with you.
