I usually say as little as possible to people at work, but we had two Londoners in today, chatting about football. One was a Spurs fan, and the other QPR.

The Spurs fan left, and I got talking to the QPR fan. He was in his 50's, came across as a down to Earth bloke, he asked who I supported, I told him the Blades, so naturally he asked about Luke Freeman.

I said that he'd looked decent from what I'd seen, and that he played well in the ten minutes he got at the end of the Bournemouth game.

He said that his heart wasn't in at at QPR, and he said he was on 45k a week there, and 65k now!

I told him there was absolutely no fucking chance he was on that, and that I doubted he was on even half.

He was very matter of fact that the minimum weekly wage in the PL is 60k. I told him none of our players would be on close to that.

He then said he knew what Billy was on, and asked me what I reckoned. I said I've no real idea but I'd be surprised if he was on more than 25-30k.

He then told me that he knew exactly what he gets, 85k a week.

I asked him if he was being serious, and again 'yes, the minimum wage in the PL is 60k.'

Then he left.

Is he confusing the words ‘minimum’ and ‘average’?

if all our players were on this minimum our wage bill this season will be £75 million on first team players alone
ondoubt someone will bring this thread to the fore when the real figures come out

Surely the only people who know exactly what Billy earns a week are Billy, his agent, whoever agreed to his wage on the club's side, sufc payroll....and probably Jade.

And I doubt QPR extended Luke Freeman's contract on 45k after their fine from the FFP court case. My QPR mate recons it was more like 12k and even that was a bit rich for them in their current state, hence why Luongo and Smith also departed.

Luke Freeman isn’t and never has been on £45k a week. I’m not in the know on this, I’m just using basic common sense.

The Man City midfielder Sane, is apparently on £60k a week, just to put this into context somewhat.

tbf we're paying 50k a week for Hendo as RC confirmed, so the wages could be higher than we think but not fucking 85k. 😂

Given our wage bill season before last was 19m, this season it has to be at least 40m divide by 25 and then by 52 gives about 30k a week.
I'm guessing most of our players are on 30-40k week.

The maximum at the Lane is unlikely to be much above £60k pw let alone the fucking minimum.

i dont doubt the minimum wage in premier league is 60,000 because majority of the starting 11s at the top 6 are on 150,000 minumum stars on 300,000. subs are on 75,000 - 100,000. but luke freeman might earn 85,000 but a month certainly not a week

Sounds like your average armchair plastic sky TV fan

I know for a fact Ched was on 20k a week.

In fairness he would have deserved it if he'd been allowed a full pre-season instead of being forced out to Fleetwood.

Last season I was chatting with a commercial team member, they were voicing their astonishment at how the weekly wages had increased in the Championship and it sounded like 20-25k a week was the norm. I'd think United would be looking at 40k for premiership. I read Maguire went to Leicester originally on 50k a week.

I'd assume the wage bill is around the fifty million mark
Be interesting to see what it was last season ,I know it was 20 million in our first championship season under wilder and I would have thought with the loans last season it would have gone up a fair whack

A mate i play footy with told me he is mates with callum robinsons dad. Apparently he was on 8k at preston and on 25k now with us. If this is true then i would imagine we arent paying anyone over 30/35k.
