Lost count of the number of times Norwich lost the ball by being too slow and basically conceded possession by dickin’ around in midfield...lesson right there. The Duffmeister for all his brilliance was often guilty of that later last season. I’m sure Wilder recognized that fact when he chose to release him.

A good start is essential, there’s no way you’re having a good start away at anfield it’s a horror show for a first game and one we would have written off had we drew that as the first fixture.

Norwich looked shell shocked when the OG went in, and the rest was history, Liverpool will be up there challenging to win this division so perspective is required..

The way they played they got off lucky in my opinion.. we’re a different animal but not many teams will come away from Liverpool with anything this season..

Learnt plenty about Norwich tonight, forget what Farke said in the post match about loving his team, he looked very worried at both half time and full time and for good reason because they look weak as piss defensively.

Pretty much every team in the championship was able to score 2 or 3 goals in a game against Norwich last season, so to play just as open and with the same poor defenders in the Prem is simply naive and borderline obnoxious. Liverpool never had to get out of 2nd gear tonight.

They did seemingly well going forward at times tonight, but
1. Liverpool were also incredibly slack defensively and never had to get out of 2nd gear going forward.
2. Even in terms of attacking play, Norwich both last season and tonight were never at the same level as Wolves who strolled their way through most games when they pissed the league.

The same team that conceded plenty against championship teams is going to get pasted against teams that are just as good as them going forward (including us), but can actually defend.

Can't say they'll definitely go down, but I thoroughly expect us to finish above them

You’re right and I think offensively they are being vastly overrated. Their attack isn’t good enough to compensate for that defence.

True, but maybe parking the bus against an off-key Liverpool doesn’t get you a hammering. We were relegated by a single goal last time, goal difference matters. If Norwich take a -20 GD hit away to the top 6 it’s a massive difference overall.

This is probably the point I was getting at most. Their goal difference could end up being horrendous. I know Norwich fans claim not to care if relegated. But if it comes down to goal difference end of season i bet ya some will be regretting not playing with smarter tactics against the big guns

If Norwich had taken their chances it could have been 4-4. The thing that makes most difference in this league if the quality of finishing. Norwich's problem is that they only have one finisher and with that defence they are always going to need 3 goals a game to get a result.
Teams who parked the bus against the likes of City and Liverpool last year still got mullered so Norwich, like us, don't have much to lose against these clubs and I would much rather see us giving it a go like they did than sitting back, getting spanked and then getting roasted by jug ears and the like.
The difference between us and Norwich is that we are better equipped defensively (we will still get turned over a few times though) but CW has brought players in who can take more of the chances we will create.
I will take a 4-1 hammering at Liverpool if our set up means that we will pick up the necessary results against the clubs from seventh place down.

The only thing I would say to that is, in some cases you don’t know whether a Championship level player can actually make the step up. Vardy being a good example. Agree with the rest though. I watched the game last night and a few things came across ( it was the first game after all )
Norwich were good going forward at times , think there one striker up top , will get goals , there defending was virtually non existent at times , before they scored Liverpool had at least 3 or 4 chances to really embarrass them ,
They’ve tried doing it on the cheap ( Norwich) by buying nobody but getting a few loan players in to cover
Liverpool looked really good at times going forward ( or was that because Norwich were shit at the back ) and because the game was won after half an hour , took the foot off the gas and couldn’t put the foot down again towards the end .
So overall a good not great performance by Liverpool ( strikers aside , who’s pace was scary at times )
Norwich, will win games , but I’d be disappointed after that performance if we don’t get 4 points off them again this season and finish above them
So according to the pundits that’s us finishing in 19 th position

Norwich were really poor last night in defence. 2 of the goals could have been prevented by not giving the players the time and space to get shots away!!. Wilder won’t let the lads get away with that irrespective of the quality of the opposition.
Wilder has strengthened in all areas because he’s not so naive to think that that our promotion winning squad was good enough to cope without additions!!!.
That German twat farke on the other hand thinks that he didn’t need to strengthen any area of his squad?: how stupid is that??.
Yes we might get a few hidings along the way this season but rest assured wilder will not be happy unless the lads have given him 110% and left everything out on the pitch. Past experience has taught us that.

Up against a number of teams with high quality world class players, so will be tough games home or away through out the season
The skill will be to dust ourselves down and move on to the next game

I've always rated Krul.

Shot stopping he is average, below average on crosses and awful with the ball at his feet. With a team that pass out from the back he will be a liability (like last season).

Alot has been said about keeping to your identity and brand of football once promoted to the Premier League.

However I'm sure Norwich will be in two minds about that theory now.

Whilst playing positive attack minded footy should never be discouraged an element of realism and respect is required (especially when playing away)

The more I think about it the more I have to come to accept a flat 3 in midfield (with potentially also a defensive mid behind them) will be a feature of our away games this season love it or hate it.

We should remember that Duffy often dropped deeper during games to invert our midfield triangle when we were under pressure. If we do so from the start it is because we expect to be under pressure for longer periods, and because we're concerned about overcommitting people going forward. I read that Bournemouth scored more counter attacking goals than any other team last season, and their speed on the break can be frightening.

Maybe we could be able to go there and dominate the game, playing our usual stuff. But it's new territory for us, we're away, we've made some squad changes, the opposition may be happy to see us push forward, only to punish us, a bit like what happened to Norwich at Anfield. I will not blame Wilder for wanting to keep it tight from the start, hopefully avoiding being a couple of goals down after 30 minutes - and then maybe being a bit more adventurous later on. It may make the pattern of the game such that Bournemouth's forwards wont' get the space they like.

Of course it may backfire, they may still work an opening or get at set piece goal, like Stade de Reims did against us when we tried to practice this approach. But Wilder need to pick the strategy that gives us the best chance of a result. I won't be happy with some nice stuff played if we lose by three goals.

I know people are very worried about Lundstram's possible inclusion and I don't think he was great against Reims. But the shape that we kept did not see us being overrun and they created little from open play. We also scored a goal. In that respect the practice of that match wasn't too bad. We should also take some comfort that we did manage to turn the game when the attacking restrictions were removed in the last half hour.

I think on reflection Norwich were very nervous in 1st half Alexander-Arnold & Origi tore them a new one they had one lad Aarons looked about 12. They either settled down in 2nd half or Liverpool held back but they improved, as someone said you cannot glean much from this as lot's of teams will go to Anfield & get a stuffing I'm dreading NYD lol.
