Seemingly set to sign for the football club formerly known as Frank Lampard's Derby County.

I think this a major coup for them, I think he'd still offer a lot to a Premier League team - and I'd quite happily take him here, the only drawback is that he's not available until January.

Probably not.......think his focus is to acquire coaching experience so that he can become a manager.
Also think his wage demands would be astronomical and there would be a distracting media circus following the club.

Everyone would refer to us as “Wayne Rooney’s team”, it could really undermine what CW is trying to achieve.

Can see why Derby might want him and he does offer many positives
But regards him coming to us the potential disadvantage are almost as high as the potential advantages, would be a high cost risk.

We've got more about us nowadays, we don't need to be a stepping stone for admittedly legendary England strikers to get into coaching.

We didn’t need a big name to get promoted. Derby have just got a potentially very good manager who, with the right backing, could well have taken them up. Rooney could have a great impact but it could also go wrong, it seems like an unnecessary gamble to me. What’s wrong with the old fashioned method of getting a good manager and giving him a bit of cash to sign the players he wants?

Sums up modern football. He was a great player once but now well past his best and has little to offer other than a strolling part. But hey, the media are all over it so that gets Derby loads of coverage and all the sponsors are happy. I believe that is spot on. Despite there relative affluence I doubt they could afford his wages otherwise. Speaking of Derby - anyone glad we didn't buy Martin Waghorn?

My money would have been on Derby for autos had he been joining them now.However as it's Jan I'd say 3rd and win p/offs. Can't argue with the influence his experience will bring.Bit like Jags for us. Jags would always have got my vote ahead of him mind.Would have signed him had we not known the quality we now have.

Not for me, I thought he was finished before he left Man Yoo & there is no way he could get fit enough & sharp enough to win a place in our team on merit. Yes he was a great player & I am sure he is still capable of more great moments, but nowhere near enough to warrant his place. And that is without the media circus that will inevitably follow him around, no way would I want our club to be a vehicle for him to take over.

It's a missed opportunity, particularly when you consider that Rooney wouldn't have joined until January. Could have gone all out and matched his wages for 6 months.
