Most likely to be Henderson (assuming he signs) but it could now be Morrison if he hits top form.
Maybe JOC once he gets the exposure or will one of the other Englishmen surprise everyone?

Henderson (assuming he signs on loan again, although technically he's a ManUre player!), but under the tutelage of Jags, I reckon Jack has a good chance!

Only 2 viable options really. Pickard certainly isn't beyond falable so a decent season for Henderson would put him in contention.

The main problem for JOC is that Maguire is in front of him in the pecking order and isn't likely to be dropped any time soon especially if he gets a move this summer.

Jack O’Connell. I really think he’s destined for big things. I’ve never seen a centre half so consistent, cover so much ground, never injured, never suspended, big, strong, good on the deck, solid in the air, left footed, mobile... the list of his attributes is endless. It’s a good job we’ve kept up with his progression or he’d be gone by now and without him we’d have struggled to get to where we are. I expect us to be fending off huge bids for him next Summer when the rest of the country has seen just how good he is.

With Southgate as manager I’d see him slotting in really well into the 3-5-2 he’s playing.

Why don’t you see you Morrison as a viable option?
Man Utd pedigree which always goes down well.
Represented England at every age level previously.
England are crying out for a creative central midfielder, that’s probably the weakest area of the current team.
I don’t think any past indiscretions would count against him if he knuckles down and performs for us.

I’ll stick my neck out and predict that O’Connell will have played for England by the time 2020/21 kicks off. He has every attribute plus he’s left footed and England have moved away from the back three they were trying in the World Cup, so arguably even more important to have someone who can open up that side of the pitch (by playing the ball from the centre into the LB / LM / LCM) with his natural foot.

Just hope he’s still with us when he does it...

At this point in time Morrison is a million miles away from playomg for Engand. He's onoy just earned a contract with a new club following a trial.

Yes, his ability is obvious but it will need an incredible season from him to put him anywhere near. Forget about England, he's going to have a tough enough job forcing his way into the Utd side.

quite a few gk’s in the pecking order atm, hendo will get his time when he gets the man u call. O connell will be squad player next euros i believe, and if he plays well it’ll be huge bucks for him

O'Connell will be in the England squad before the end of the season.

The two most important factors in this are;
1.) Obviously, which of our players is going to thrive this season and be a stand out performer.
2.) More importantly, where are England short of options.

Taking the second point first, as England need to be bereft of options to even consider a lowly Sheffield United player, it will have to be centre half or goalkeeper. Talk of Morrison is nonsense due to his lack of recent playing time, and a midfield which is full of better options currently. Winks didn’t even make the squad in the summer for an example of this.
Hendo isn’t a Blade until he joins perm, so it’s got to be JOC who I think will meet both criteria.
For me he’s a better option than either Harry or Stones currently (although I do think the latter will storm back to form this season, else he’s done at City), but Jack needs to show it in the top league.
I can see him playing alongside Stones and/or Gomez as the left footed option in a 2 or 3.
May take until season though for the blind to truly see.

I’d go with JOC turned into the complete modern defender and will still get better, my fear is this could well be his final season as a blade as I can see him going for big money next summer possibly Everton

O'Connell. Southgate will surely realise that playing a left footed defender on the left of the back three would be better for the balance of the side. It's hard to think of many better options than JOC. Maguire can then move the centre or right of the back three. It's remarkable how well Maguire has done playing out of position.

Henderson not a blade, so I don’t count him.

None of the others will force their way in sadly....Morrison if he has suddenly realised his ability, grown up and sets the prem alight! But he would have to move to another club first I would wager

Sir Alex Ferguson said that as a youth Morrison was “the best he’d ever seen”

Therefore better at that age than Giggs, Scholes and Beckham etc. Better than Pogba and Lingard in the same team.

It goes without saying that he would have to recapture that form to get close to the England team.

But if he can then he would surely be a better, creative option in midfield than the likes of Rice, Delph and Dier?

Central midfield is England’s weakest area in recent years.

You quote creative options and then pick those brought in to sit and break up play. Dier and Delph certainly lack the ability to be hugely creative once they’ve won/got the ball but that’s the difference between a world class deeper lying midfielder and the vast majority. There are hopes Rice can do this, but it’s not in Morrisons makeup to play that disciplined role.
Therefore he’s competing in a different area alongside the likes of Dele, Barkley, Lingard, Winks, Loftus-Cheek, and
Lallana from the current team and that’s before we get onto the likes of Maddison, Mount and Foden who are the likely first replacements.

Whatever Fergie said back in the previous decade is all well and good but Morrison will never achieve that potential. He’s lost too much time. He could be amazing for us but he isn’t ever going to turn into Pogba or become one of the top players in the world.

Also think JOC will be in the england side at some point! Anyone get any odds on it?

It will be O’Connell but when he’s playing for either the Mancs or Scousers. I think he’s better than Maguire now and it won’t take Manure long to realise after paying £80M they still haven’t got the best English left sided centre back in the league.

It's all about opinions, but stats and facts say that Harry is well in front of O'Connell at the moment, but who knows things can change.

Huge bid?

£12M would get him, imagine us turning down £75M like Leicester?
