I find this article completely encapsulates how we are arriving in the PL

There have been several articles like this all praising us and this one clearly makes the point about the general ignorance of our style:

"The assumptions that breeds are very damaging: with that kind of DNA, Sheffield United must be totally loyal to a 4-4-2 formation, must be wedded to arcane principles like pace and power and slinging the ball into the box, and that each one of Wilder’s team-talks ends with crockery being smashed and a player being held up against the wall by the neck"

No matter, loads of other clubs fans will still show us no respect and assume we are Norvern cloggers.

Well bollocks to them.

A superb article, and I enjoyed reading very much.

One thing I did notice last season is that the supporters of other clubs who know a bit about football were all very generous in their praise of United, my gaffer is a season ticket holder at Derby County, when we got in to the Championship a couple of years ago I told him we would do well and surprise a lot of people with how good we actually are and our style of play and he dismissed it as a bit of over-excitement and ego talking, and now he reminds me of what i said and how I was right. I think he has seen us three times over the last couple of years and each time he has said we are the best side he has seen Derby play. When they beat us last night he was raving on about how he watched Basham all night and wondered how on earth he did what he did.

To be honest I'm really enjoying being able to be proud of what we are doing and about how good we are, and being able to back it up. Especially as three years ago I was girding my loins for another long trek around the footballing backwaters of Gillingham, Walsall and Rochdale

Without wanting to come across as contrarian - I think wilder and knill have actually got quite a lot of (well earned) credit.

I’ve seen more articles on their achievement and our style than on Norwich and villa combined tbh. There is barely an article that doesn’t mention the overlapping centre backs or wilders rise.

I think that’s why Norwich have been so salty after winning the league.

We've got personality, personality goes a long way! Also the manner that we've completed the last 3 seasons must be inspirational to others.

There's a you tube video I think linked to CW signing his 3 year contract, called something like The Story So Far, starts with getting booed off in Adkins last game, then clips of games after that telling the story, watched it on full screen through my sky box last night, it's been nothing short of fuckin' brilliant since we got our club back.

A fine article, written by an erudite journalist with an eye for detail and an open mind. I used the word 'mediocracy' to describe the managerial merry go round on the Wednesday thread (think Bruce, Pardew, Pulis etc) but it's a word which could increasingly be used to describe football journalism and punditry too.
There are of course good football journalists and pundits around just as there are good managers, but there are also far, far too many being rewarded for utterly mediocre and lazy work, and the effect is, in my opinion, a little more pernicious than seems at 1st sight. It contributes to the overall football psyche and relegates the acheivements of the likes of Chris Wilder and Alan Knill the below those of the likes of Frank Lampard. It puts the likes of Gianfranco Zola into 1st class jobs despite an apalling record of failure.
Whilst your average Blade is probably happy to fly under the radar and for our manager to remain English football's best kept secret (despite his hiding in open sight for years now), how surprised would any of us be to see a foreign manager come in, replicate Wilder's tactics and be hailed as a revolutionary?

Goal.com recently asked their Twitter followers to list who will finish in the top 3 and the bottom 3 of the Prem next season, and I would say 95% of people said we would be bottom 3. Granted, they mostly seemed to be Kenyan Chelsea fans who don't know what a Sheffield United is, but despite plenty of praise from various media outlets in the last few years I don't think we're exactly known and (therefore) rated by your average Premier League fan.

Good article. I like the fact that we are almost under the radar of most of the press, I think it suits us as a club and it puts focus and maybe some pressure on other clubs.

I don't think we're exactly known and (therefore) rated by your average Premier League fan.

It puts things into perspective when Newcastle fans were saying 'never heard of Chris Wilder.' My gut reaction, 'taking the piss', my retrospective thoughts, 'average Prem fan.'
