The insomnia has set in so I thought I would start a thread. In the last decade (since 2000) who do you think United's best player has been. Just thought it would be interesting. I of course will add my vote.....Michael Brown - hands down!

Jags was more hit and miss than we care to remember gave the ball away for so many goals when playing CM than even monty does!

Mine would have to be Shipps or Unsworth, the two people who really got us up that season!

Jags or Morgan.

Out of the two i'd go for Morgan, but i suspect if Jags had been centre back for the entire-length of his blades career it'd be him instead.

Personally I think it is unfair/not right to give a player of the decade to a player like Beattie or Hulse as they only played for 18 months of a whole decade!

Morgan & Monty are contenders with perhaps Tongey & Kenny too but for performances & moments of brilliance it has to be Jagielka.

This got me thinking of our players in the past decades. My choice would be

1890s- Ernest Needham
1900s- Arthur Brown
1910s- George Utley
1920s- Billy Gillespie
1930s- Jock Dodds
1940s- Jimmy Hagan
1950s- Jimmy Hagan
1960s- Mick Jones
1970s- Tony Currie
1980s- Keith Edwards
1990s- Brian Deane

beattie, the best striker we let go,
jags and brown, biggest potential we sold,
unsworth, the best defender we sold,
kenny, the best goal keeper who got a cough,
geary, the most passionate defender to be unlucky, in recent, with injury,

but for me i think the player for the 00's were;
Paul Peschisolido, the best game changer i have seen in the championship,
Peter Ndlovu, incredible person, achieving great things
and
Robert Kozluk, for being there when needed and a great asset in the dressing-room,
Morgan, captain, committed and real.

Monty player of the decade - Which lunatic asylum am I in!
Monty is a 100% tryer nothing more nothing less
He hustles and bustles and upsets more 'sophisticated' players but......
he can't pass the ball
he can't shoot
very,very, rarely scores a goal
can't trap or control the ball
cannot put his foot on the ball and retain possession
Player of the decade - I believe he has made the very best of the limited talent he has and has formed a career as a professional footballer
A good tryer yes a footballer never!

There's a few to choose from. Brown, Morgan, Jagielka, Kenny all seem to be the most worthy.

I'd like to say Brown. But Morgan just edges it for me based on the number of years he's been here.

This is the only one of your list he failed to demonstrate yesterday.

By Monty's standards he was rubbish yesterday!
He might have passed but it never went to a striped shirt, couldn't trap a bag of cement and never retained possession

I counted 5 bad passes yesterday, two of which were very poor.

This was less than a number of our more "cultured" players.

He found a blades player plenty of times and also managed to get 2 or 3 good crosses in.

By 'Cultured Players' do you mean the other 21 on the pitch?

I mean the ones who never get critisised for giving the ball away more than others, mainly because of their names :)

Go on then i'll bite :D
Name me all Uniteds cultured players on the pitch yesterday.
When I think cultured players I think Currie,Woodward,Hodges possibly Cockerill etc.

My Shortlist is Paddy, Monty, Jags, Brown, Pesch, Killa, Del Boy and Macca... but like many Morgs has to be the winner... by a distance! Each of the above have been great at times

From the player that joined, Morgs has developed massively. In the PL so many thought he wouldn't make the step up but he did a cracking job and since we came down he's been probably the most consistent player. Not to mention a brilliant leader.

Top Lad Morgs!

So you're saying that he played fewer bad passes than everyone else on the pitch?

Not everyone no.

He did however play fewer bad passes than a number of our less critisised players and a number of theirs.

Crossing of wires here, I was attempting a humourous retort to Fiery Blade! :D

You said "I counted 5 bad passes yesterday, two of which were very poor.

This was less than a number of our more "cultured" players."

To which Fiery replied "By 'Cultured Players' do you mean the other 21 on the pitch?"

From which I jokingly infered that FB thought he played fewer bad passes than anyone else playing.

It really wasn't worth it :(

My fault :)

I misread, I was half expecting the same question to me from Fiery.

Great question OP.

Obviously Jags, Morgan and Brown stand out. For some - but not all and certainly not me - Paddy and Tongy come into the reckoning.

Couple of names spring to mind when I think more: Peter Ndlovu, Paul Peschisolido, Stuart McCall and Shaun Murphy to go with Neil Shipperley, David Unsworth and Wayne 'Chief' Allison.

There were some that might have had potential if we hadn't flogged them so quick or if they hadn't been injured: Beattie, Hulse, Naughton, Bent, Kabba, Kilgallon.

Oh and obviously Bobby Ford, Carl Asaba, Laurent D'Jaffo and Arturo Lupoli deserve mentions for scoring against You Know Who.

I would have to go for Chris Morgan all things considered.

Monty is very close to the top if not the top of the list for the worst player of the decade.

Paddy Kenny for me, Michael Brown & Chris Morgan up there as well.

Can we have a poll added to this to see who people think is the player of the decade for us?
