Yes yes, i'm bored but if Duffy wasn't our first choice attacking midfielder and was a little bit off it (HYPOTHETICALLY SPEAKING... can't see it happening though unless Luke Freeman is as good as everyone says he is... not slating him, just haven't seen enough of him) and he didn't start the match against Liverpool - would you have him play last 20 minutes to help fulfill his dream of playing at Anfield against his boyhood club?

Would you also make O'Connell captain for the game?

Sounds a bit mental but I know Wilder wants to win every game but purely for man-management reasons, they're two of our players that have stuck by us since league 1 and helped us get all the way to the premier league. For me, it's something that wouldn't be a bad thing at all but i'm just purely thinking about whether if you were manager, would you reward a player with something along these lines?

Reasons for my thinking is that Wilder said that Duffy worked his way from Prescot Cables and now he'll be walking out at Anfield - but what if Duffy wasn't up to standards and wasn't our #1 attacking mid?

And again - yes i'm bored

Imagine if Duffy scored the winner for us at Anfield and Liverpool needed to win in order to keep up their title chase against Man City - i reckon he'd be happy but also gutted

Bugger! The 'like mist' descended as I read your post and off I went, thumping my keyboard without so much as a single re-read of your post. Good point about Duffers though. I guess that's where the conflict of interest would kick in for me, though it's easy to say that sat on my sofa typing this.
Maybe a professional sports-person, baring down on goal with the chance to score a last-minute winner, with their reputation at stake would smash the f*****r into the top corner and apologise after?
I'd like to think so, particularly if it IS Duffy at Anfield :)

Would love any of our players to fulfill their dream of playing at the stadium regardless of the score - think our players have earnt it
 
I think when you're a footballer, "fandom" is a little bit different. As much as Mark Duffy and Jack O'Connell love Liverpool, I bet both would love to score against them. In the same way, Lee Gregory always seemed to love scoring against us for Millwall. Along with everyone else, I bet he just loved knowing he was winding his mates up a bit.

In terms of doing anything differently for sentiment, only in exceptional circumstances I reckon. Our first match against Liverpool, if Duffy's off it, or you feel a different formation would work better, there's no way I'm playing him or even bringing him on. We're there to win the game. If however it's one of our last games of the season, and you reckon Duffy could be off in the Summer. And this might be his last chance to play against Liverpool and there's not an awful lot on the line. Then I'd make sure he got on the pitch.
 
I was gutted when Brian Deane came back with "his club" Leeds United and scored in front of the kop. It wasn't him scoring that got to me but the fact after the way we'd idolised him, he ran the full length of the pitch and practically jumped into Leeds end.

Shit game, pissed it down, I was near front of kop so got soaked. Enjoyed our late equaliser though.

I can't remember much after Deane scoring and making it 0-2. I think Jostein Flo scored but these days I have all on remembering who's scored by the time I've got home 😂

I’ve no idea tbh. I just remember it because when we equalised I was jumping around and lost my bank card. I didn’t even know (didn’t use it much in those days) until BL contacted me by letter asking me to get in touch. Someone had found it and handed it in. (Thanks whoever that was). I was a bit disappointed they weren’t calling me for a trial.

It's up to Liverpool really, if they can't find the £75 million to buy him then they must expect him to score against them.

He wanted to add a bit of pace to our attack I think. He may as well have put Danny Wilson on.

In April 1996, Newcastle were at the top of the league when they were playing at Blackburn. They were winning 1-0 , but Graham Fenton (a Newcastle fan) came on as sub to score two goals for Blackburn! Man U then overtook Newcastle's top position not long after that.
